Kaz Hirai Steps Down as Chairman of the Board

UPDATE: It has come to our attention that Kaz Hirai has just stepped down as a member of the board. He is still a member of the board part-time, but will now be focused on his CEO and Presidential duties. News broke today that former head of Games at Sony, Kazuo Hirai will now be taking on the role as President and CEO of Sony as of today. Playstation 3 Firmware Update – June 26, 2012

Get your Playstation 3’s ready for a brand new update coming tomorrow, June 26, 2012. A forum post on NEOGAF suggests that the new (version 4.20) update will come with a bunch of new fixes as well as some cool functionality features for your wireless headset, some more settings for how long your Playstation 3 will auto-off and our personal favorite: copy multiple saved games. Babel Rising Launches On Xbox Live Arcade & PlayStation Network

Ever wanted the power to smite an entire civilization? Ubisoft grants us all this power in their latest Xbox Live Arcade / PSN title Babel Rising. The goal in tower of Babel is to prevent the people of Babylon from building the ancient Tower of Babel, and in order to accomplish this players must use their divine powers, with either the PlayStation Move or Microsoft Kinect. The whole thing sounds like it could be very entertaining. Who hasn’t stood in front of their Kinect and asked themselves “Why can’t I hurl lightening bolts with this thing?”

Metal Gear Solid Online Uses Up All Its Rations, Being Taken Offline

Konami announced this afternoon that the last big event for Metal Gear Solid Online, the multiplayer portion of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be running for the next 24 hours before the game is taken permanently offline. Since this past April all of MGO’s expansion packs have been free for members of the service and reward shop items, which were previously purchasable by players, have been free as well. 38 Studios Files for Bankruptcy

Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling’s 38 Studios have declared chapter 7 Bankruptcy earlier today. Currently an FBI investigation is under way for the game developer for neglecting to pay their employees, according to a report filed by WPRI News. During the development of Kingdoms of Amalur back in 2010, the development house agreed to a $75 million dollar loan from the state of Rhode Island in order to move its company and its employees to the state to create more jobs. PlayStation Store Update: 06.05.12

The long and agonizing ( and by longing I mean about 12 hours) wait forthe next batch of free content for PlayStation plus and various other PlayStation store add-ons has come to a close. As announced at their E3 press conference 12 full games were added PlayStation plus this morning including new release Virtual Fighter 5: Showdown. If you haven’t played Infamous 2, Little Big Planet 2 or Warhammer 40K:  Space Marine they are also there. Demos for Sorcery and The Pinball Arcade were also added today, as well as add-on content for Atelier Meruru, Dragon’s Dogma, Street Fighter X

Wonderbook Announced for PS3

Sony announced today that Wonderbook will head to the PS3. The Wonderbook is a physical book that will be able to be used with the Playstation eye. The Wonderbook will be working with developers and storybook games. Moonbot Studios will be heading up developers to work on the book. Diggs Nightcrawler was also announced for the Wonderbook. Books of Spells has also been announced for the Wonderbook by JK Rowling. The book will also work in tandem with Pottermore, the website that focuses on Harry Potter lore. Assassins Creed Vita Announced

Assassins Creed III: Liberation is coming to the Playstation Vita. You  take the role of a female assassin in the same era of Assassins Creed III. Liberation will contain the world format and will be feature near sight functionality. Additionally, the there will be new ways to unlock things in the Vita and PS3, some of the things to unlock using the Cross Play functionality will be: Cross goods unlocking Connors Tomahawk character skin and multiplayer skin ammunition pouches More so, you will be able to buy a Crystal White PS Vita along with Assassins Creed III: Liberation.

Quantum Dreams’ Beyond: Two Souls Announced

Beyond: Two Souls was announced today at Sony’s E3 Press Briefing. It was mentioned that a character name Jodie Holmes who is searching  for herself and you will see her progressions. Played by Academy Award winner, Ellen Page, he will bring the character to life. All gameplay footage shown is in real time. The game starts in a police station office. The facial animations are reminincent of LA Noire with the technology called MotionScan. Jodie is completely mute at this point as the officer is questions here. All of a sudden, a coffee cup on the table is shown shaking.

Watch_Dogs Unveiled at E3.

Update: Check out the teaser trailer and gameplay after the jump! During the Ubisoft E3 Press Briefing, a trailer for a brand new game was shown. The trailer that was shown was a information centric. The trailer that was shown was named ctOS and it takes the open world game to a whole new level. Jonathon Morin, creative director at Ubisoft said that the city was your weapon.

Source: Sony May Demo New Hardware Tonight

A rumor brought to  Broken Joysticks’s attention this afternoon states that the hardware manufacturer will demo an unfinished prototype piece of hardware at tonight’s press conference in a little under three hours. Rumblings on the show floor indicate that this may be an unfinished version of Sony’s next home console code-named Orbis. Little else is known about this reveal but the entire world will soon get its first glimpse at a new piece of Sony hardware at nine Eastern tonight. AC III Spinoff Featuring a Female Protagonist Heading To Vita?

The next mobile entry in the Assassins Creed franchise may have been revealed in the latest Game Informer if information posted to popular gaming forum NEOGAF is correct. A member of the NEOGAF community claims to have got their hands on issue of the latest GI which features a preview for Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation for PlayStation Vita. Supposedly the game will take place alongside Assassins Creed III and will star a young female protagonist named Aveline as she explores New Orleans. Connor from the console version of assassin’s Creed three is also said to make an appearance in Liberation.

Skyrim’s Dawnguard Gets Beta Test On Xbox 360

The Beta program for the upcoming Dawnguard expansion for The Elderscrolls V Skyrim will be coming to the Xbox 360, Bethesda announced. In order to apply for the Dawnguard beta you’ll have to have an account on their official forums. Your information on the official application and your account must also match for you to be considered. The beta program will begin rather quickly with Bethesda selecting testers next week sometime. Those chosen will receive a token to download Dawnguard and will receive the full version of the expansion upon release.
