The Light Always Left On: Lessons Learned From Gone Home

Posted on April 5, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

A dim light flickers in the distance during the late hours of the evening as a still silence fills the air. These are things that define both the opening moments of Full Bright’s Gone Home and my childhood memories growing up playing Nintendo & SEGA titles in the mid / late 90s. As someone who sometimes struggles to find her voice amidst a sea of opinions, new releases and a 24/7 news cycle it was a decision to revisit one of 2013’s standout titles that reminded me that gaming will always be something close to my heart. Rarely has it

Emerge From The Shadows In Batman: Arkham Knight

Posted on March 12, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

The Dark Knight swoops his way onto the brand new Xbox One & PlayStation 4 this Fall with the release of Batman: Arkham Knight. Billed as the final chapter in RockSteady’s long running Arkham series – following 2009’s Arkham Asylum and 2011’s Arkham City – this brand new title will finally allow players stop baddies while cruising through Gotham City in the bat-mobile. Prior games featured the signature car but Knight marks the first time that players will actually be able to get behind the wheel. Aside from the reveal of the lead platform we also know more about the

Irrational Games Closing, Ken Levine To Focus On Digital Games

Posted on February 20, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

In a surprise move that sent shockwaves throughout the gaming community earlier this week, Irrational Games founder Ken Lavine has announced that the studio will be downsizing from its current format as an AAA studio to one with just fifteen members. Considering the critical and financial success both the original Bioshock and last year’s Bioshock Infinite have enjoyed this move might seem out of left field, but Mr.Lavine has attempted to explain the rationale behind this decision in a rather lengthy blog post. Developers affected by the closure will be offered financial and logistical support according to Levine to help

Swordplay Shown In Hellraid Dev Diary

Posted on February 17, 2014 by Joshua Rust

Perhaps one of my most anticipated titles for 2014, yes I’m not like most other people, is Hellraid. From the studio that brought us Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide, comes a dark fantasy twist from Techland with the awesome gameplay that made the Dead Island franchise so popular. For those unfamiliar, you can check out some of the screenshots that have been released. You can also see the first gameplay trailer that was released almost a year ago.

Transformers: Rise Of The Dark Spark Announced

Posted on February 16, 2014 by Joshua Rust

Today at the New York Toy Fair Activision announced a new Transformers video game, presumably to coincide with the release of the next Transformers movie, titled Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark. With unfortunate layoffs at High Moon Studios, it appears that the new Transformers game will be in a new developers’ hands: Edge of Reality (whom is most memorable for The Incredible Hulk tie-in). Activision, with the announcement of the new game, have also released a teaser trailer to go along with it…

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Trailer Swings In

Posted on January 23, 2014 by Joshua Rust

The Amazing Spider-Man is set to make his return to video game consoles via developer Beenox and publisher Activision this year. Historically, I personally believe that Beenox has done an outstanding job with the Spider-Man games. They are looking to continue this trend with a new Spidey game, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which will release sometime in the spring of this year. While the storyline will not follow the movies’, which is truly not a bad thing, it will feature some of the enemies featured in the film. Don’t worry true believers, there will also be more classic villains for you to take down as well

LOTR Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor Gameplay Surfaces

Posted on January 23, 2014 by Les Major

GameSpot has released some gameplay footage that shows what Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s new Lord of the Rings title Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor looks like from Monolith Productions. So far it seems to be somewhat Assassin’s Creed inspired with random rival generation which makes Orc foes that you build a history against called the Nemesis System. All this taking place between The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Interestingly, this is possibly the first non canon LOTR video game. Read on for the video!

Progress Of The Starbound Beta

Posted on December 10, 2013 by Les Major

Chucklefish, the developer behind the recent Terraria-like space adventure, has kept beta players going with lots of fast and furious updates. They’ve actually apologized for a slow update progress, which is surprising since they only released the beta on December 4th and this is already the second patch sent out today. Perhaps there was mention of an update sooner on their forums or such. So far Starbound has been lots of fun! Unlike Terraria, you planet hop in your space ship you can beam up to from each planets surface. Things such as coal and wood can power your ships
