Footage of LucasArts’ Cancelled Darth Maul Game Leaked

Posted on April 9, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

The recently shuttered LucasArts had a last generation title in production centered around Darth Maul – the Sith lord who will ever been linked with one of the few awesome fight scenes in the prequel trilogy and of course double bladed light sabers. Footage from an unfinished build has made its way on to YouTube, alongside details in the May issue of Game Informer.

Developers of the Wii version of The Force Unleashed II, Red Fly Studios, began work on the title in October 2010 and it was reportedly going to be a Nintendo Wii U exclusive before the decision was made to shift the title to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC. Development continued well into 2011 with George Lucas suggesting that the project take a new direction… we kid you not …. as a “buddy cop like experience” that would see Darth Maul team up alongside Darth Talon from the extended universe. Eventually communication between the two companies broke down and the whole thing was scrapped sometime in June 2011.

At this point its hard not to imagine an entire room of people not laughing hysterically at George Lucas’ request, just how would Darth Maul work in a buddy cop scenario anyways? The video that leaked appears to be from one of seeral early prototype builds that Red Fly had been working on. We see Darth Maul walk around an imperal-ish looking hanger as well as him taking on several copy & pasted bounty hunters in combat. He twirls his double bladed light saber just like you would expect him too do. Interestingly enough the force powers on display behave similar to those in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. We see Darth use the force push to send bounty hunters flying among other demonstrations of his power.
