Kalimba’s Puzzles Get Surprisingly Complex

Posted on November 26, 2014 by Les Major

Press Play’s two character platform puzzler is quite enjoyable! In a weird way it kind of evokes feelings of playing Portal, in the sense of twisting the game mechanics to complete puzzles. It’s a deceptively complex concept that adds new elements at a steady pace to keep things interesting. We had a chance to take Kalimba out for a test drive and what follows is impressions from the beta build of the game.

Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Released

Posted on November 26, 2014 by Les Major

One title that really stood out to me as an Xbox Live Arcade game that made challenging your friends fun was Geometry Wars. It’s a pure top down shooter that encourages you to rack up an insane score. Feeling like a classic arcade game, you could easily check the leader boards. I battled it out for a long time against my friend on the original. Every time I logged in, I’d check to see if he’d beat my score and I’d up the ante. Geometry Wars 3 is available across PC, Playstation 3 and 4, as well as Xbox 360

Blizzard Unveils OverWatch – a Team Based FPS!

Posted on November 11, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

Over the weekend Blizzard Entertainment unveiled a team based FPS called OverWatch. If this announcement comes as a bit of a surprise, that’s because it is! The developer further stated that the team that was working the cancelled Project Titan continued to refine their ideas until they became what was unveiled at Blizzcon. In addition to an entire array of screenshots Blizzard also released a nearly six minute long trailer that introduces us to all of the classes. As to be expected all of them have a unique personality, look and game play style.  My favorite has to be Widowmaker

Square Enix’s latest MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV received a major patch last week with the release of version 2.4 – “Dreams of ICE”. This latest patch brings with it a brand new dungeon called Snowcloak, a hard version of Sastasha and The Sunken Temple for high level characters, the final Coil of Bahamut and most importantly two new jobs – Rogue and Ninja! We may be slightly past the initial rush of players trying to level their Rogues to 50 but you can find many Ninjas in training amongst the ranks of U’Dah, Gradania and other major player hubs. If

Techland Sends Xbox 360 / PS3 Versions of Dying Light To The Grave

Posted on October 28, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

Dying Light developer Techland has announced that they have ceased production on the last generation versions of their upcoming undead slaying action game.  They cited the fact that the PS3 and Xbox 360 couldn’t quite handle advanced features like physics based lighting technologies or displaying up to 200,000 objects on screen at one time as one of the contributing factors for cancelling both versions. Sad news for those who haven’t jumped into the eight generation of consoles, yours truly included. Dying Light will now ship on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC  on January 27th 2015 and will be published

Heavensward! FFXIV: A Realm Reborn teases its first expansion

Posted on October 21, 2014 by Chelsea Richards

Square Enix has had one busy weekend, with the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival giving us lots of big news, with regards to its MMO that successfully relaunched last August under the same name. The new expansion is set to take place in Ishgard, which current players may remember scraping the surface of in the Coerthas Central Highlands. Alongside the typical features of  an increased level cap, and spells to go along with said increased cap, players are also earning the ability for their Free Companies (guilds) to construct their own airships. Also included are both a new Dark Knight job,

Life Is Feudal, But At Least It’s A Nice Place

Posted on September 21, 2014 by Les Major

Life Is Feudal: Your Own is an interesting mix of survival game concepts that is shaping up to be a quality title to enjoy. The main focus is playing with a sandbox of a medieval world that you can craft into your own design. Currently on Steam in early Alpha, many players have already decided to give it a go and boost the game to the number one Top Seller spot on the store. It’s really quite interesting, mostly due to it’s context menu. In general, Life Is Feudal has a realistic landscape look, while holding a Minecraft like digging

First Impressions Of Fading Hearts

Posted on September 5, 2014 by Les Major

Dating Sims are a sort of game you can really just sit back and enjoy. Sometimes they play out like Visual Novels and just let you read along with the story. Otherwise like Fading Hearts give you choices as you get further in that allow you to craft the story to your liking… Or just ignore it altogether and slay monsters in the woods with Dragon Quest like combat. I’m only a little ways in so far, but it seems like a game I’ll be spending quite some time with. Especially with different choices to explore.

Delver Has Been Updated

Posted on April 6, 2014 by Les Major

Ever played the first person rogue-like RPG Delver? Well good news! The early access game that’s still in beta just got even better. Since it’s launch Delver has seen some graphical changes and a good progression of updates. There’s still lots planned for the future but I couldn’t resist and got in on this title already. Going through the dungeon, leveling up, and wandering about is fun! Sorta like a simplified, cartoony, one quest version of Ultima Underworld if I had to put a reference to it. So what’s new?
