Posted on June 15, 2017 by Jason Nason

A brand-new classic Metroid adventure returns, rebuilt from the ground up and it’s headed to the Nintendo 3DS.

In Metroid: Samus Returns, you’ll brave the hostile terrain of an alien planet teeming with vicious life forms as legendary bounty hunter Samus Aran. Her mission? Terminate the Metroid menace in this masterful reimagining of her 1991 Game Boy adventure. Samus Aran’s arsenal has been enhanced with new moves and abilities that are sure to help her face the deadly surprises that await. This intense, side-scrolling action platformer is a great entry point into the Metroid franchise and perfect for returning fans as well.

The game follows the idea of the recent Fire Emblem Echoes, which was a full remake of the original NES game.

Nintendo teases amiibo functionality in Metroid Prime: Federation Force

Posted on June 20, 2016 by Jason Nason

Nintendo shared some information on their social media channels this evening, sharing some information about amiibo compatibility with upcoming Metroid Prime: Federation Force.

While tackling missions in Metroid Prime: Federation Force, tapping one of the two Samus amiibo (Samus or Zero Suit Samus) provides upgrades like additional missiles and ammo for the Slow Beam. Additionally you can add some bling to your Blast Ball matches in Metroid Prime: Federation Force by scanning amiibo. Doing so allows you to add a custom paint job to your Mech.

No word on just what amiibo will be compatable, with only Mario and Bowser confirmed. Neither Metroid.com nor amiibo.com have any updated information regarding which amiibo will work with Metroid Prime: Federation Force.

Metroid Prime Hunters and DKC 3 coming to Virtual Console tomorrow

Posted on June 1, 2016 by Jason Nason

The hunt is on! Two new games are coming to the Nintendo Virtual Console tomorrow.

The Wii U eShop will see the VC release of Nintendo DS title Metroid Prime Hunters when the download drops tomorrow. The game, which will run you $9.99 USD, can be pre-installed already. Here’s the plot of the game: A ferocious race, now extinct, has left behind relics of its once-powerful warrior culture. Now six other fierce bounty hunters from across the galaxy will challenge Samus in a race to claim these relics in hopes of harnessing their power for themselves.

Also on the Virtual Console horizon is the third installment in the SNES Donkey Kong Country trilogy, Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie’s Double Trouble. In the game Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong have gone missing. You play as Dixie Kong or Kiddy Kong, where you’ll take advantage of each of their unique abilities as they throw each other into action in over 40 levels. There are plenty of collectibles—including Bear Coins, which grant access to the services of the Brothers Bear, and Banana Birds, which Wrinkly Kong has a deep fondness for.

Nintendo Dampening Expectations For This Most Recent Direct Was the Right Move

Posted on November 12, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Nintendo’s decision to post a notice on the Nintendo Direct official website outlining that they had no plans to discuss the NX or Mobile during today’s broadcast was absolutely the right move. Usually dampening your fan bases expectation for such a high profile event like the return of Nintendo Directs would be a bad thing but I feel that it helped Nintendo focus solely on the message that the Wii U and 3DS have a lot of life left in them heading into next year.  Read More

Metroid Prime Federation Force Blasts onto 3DS in 2016

Posted on June 18, 2015 by Jason Nason

Nintendo likes to tease their new games, and one of the things that I said in my pre-E3 wishlist was for new game announcements to have a “this year” release date. No vague “coming soon” or just “2016” release dates. And while this game falls into the later category, I’m okay with that for now.

The truth is I need to see more of what this game is all about.

This is the (as far as I can recall) the first cooperative Metroid game. From the start of the franchise on the NES, Metroid has been a solo affair. You play as Samus and you go it alone. So with this being a new cooperative game, there is a lot that can and will likely change from the gameplay. Is that a bad thing? Is it a good thing? The truth is that I don’t know enough about the game yet to make that determination, and since it’s still a long ways off there is a lot for Nintendo to say about the game.

The game is one of two that are available for the Nintendo 3DS, the other is Dillon’s Rolling Western, a great indie title in its own right!! The two other games for the Nintendo Wii this month are WiiWare title Art Style: CUBELLO and Nintendo SNES classic The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, which is released just in time with the newest Zelda adventure coming to the 3DS in a few weeks.
