Splatoon 3 Splashes On To Switch In 2022

Posted on February 18, 2021 by Rae Michelle Richards

Nintendo’s online focused team-based ink shooter, Splatoon, returns next year with the announcement of a surprise third entry.

Announced during today’s jam packed Nintendo Direct, Splatoon 3 takes your Squid/Kid adventures to a new place – the post apocalyptic world of The Splatlands.  There your customized Inkling will do battle against others hardened by whatever catastrophic event has occurred as you become accustomed to your new surroundings in the city of Splatsville.

In terms of new features – details are light, given that the game is at least a year away if not more. Shown during the new trailer is a revamped take on customization – gone is Inkling gender, replaced with a more free form appearance options. Let’s not also forgot the new companion, your “little buddy”, oh and a brand new weapon a the Ink Bow!

Other details are almost non-existent, given that Splatoon 3 is at least 12 – 18 months from release and Nintendo doesn’t really dive deep into their games until a couple months before release.

Splatoon 2 was revealed alongside the Nintendo Switch in 2016, held a weekend stress test during the launch month of the console and released in the Summer of 2017.  Support for Splatoon 2 – that is major updates and additions ended with version 5.0 in July 2019.

Check out the trailer and several HD screen grabs:

Next Splatfest set for Friday

Posted on January 10, 2018 by Jason Nason

Nintendo has announced the next Spaltfest for Splatoon 2. Off the Hook is getting ready for another big performance, and all Inklings are invited to a new Splatfest this weekend! Splatfests are the festival events where you can champion one of two special causes. Turf War wins during this time will help your side out and the winning side is determined by popularity, Solo Win percentage, and Team Win percentage.

The Splatfest is set for Friday, January 12th at 11:00pm ET thru Saturday, January 13th at 11:00pm ET.

The question being decided is for movie lovers and aficionados: do you prefer comedies or action movies ? That’s right, it’s side-splitters vs. explosions. Jokes vs. adrenaline. Slapstick vs. fight scenes!

The theme of this Splatfest is going to be shared globally so the results will be delayed until late Sunday morning.

Nintendo discontinuing support for SplatNet

Posted on September 3, 2017 by Jason Nason

After the announcement last week that Nintendo was shutting down Miiverse, the company quietly announced that they are also discontinuing support for SplatNet.

SplatNet is an online service where you can check current and upcoming battle stages in Splatoon, check your current equipment and stats, see where you rank among your friends, as well as tweet out battle plans.

As of September 30th the service will end. There won’t be any change to the Splatoon game itself however. This also doesn’t affect the Nintendo Switch Splatoon 2 which doesn’t make use of SplatNet but instead uses SplatNet 2 in the Nintendo Switch app.

Posted on July 6, 2017 by Jason Nason

Splatoon 2 Title

This morning Nintendo held their most recent Nintendo Direct with the focus squarely set on their freshest game yet, Splatoon 2. The game is of course the sequel to Splatoon which was a refreshing game when it launched for the Wii U two years ago.

Splatoon 2 game launches exclusively for the Nintendo Switch console in just a couple of weeks and Nintendo branded this Nintendo Direct with the Squid Research Lab to provide a refresher on some of the new and returning features coming to the squid sequel. The special Nintendo Direct presentation highlighted many of the game’s new features, new weapons, new locations, and its fresh new styles. The video also touched on SplatNet 2, the new service for mobile devices that displays information about Splatoon 2 like stage schedules, gear and stats. SplatNet 2 is part of the Nintendo Switch Online mobile app which launches on July 21, which lets players send multiplayer invites to their friends via social media, as well as enables the use of voice chat in battles.

Splatoon 2 single player mode detailed

Posted on May 17, 2017 by Jason Nason

Splatoon 2 Title

At the end of the Nintendo Direct presentation, a new trailer for Splatoon 2 debuted, showing off the game’s single-player mode.

In the newest single-player story Callie – of Squid Sisters fame – has gone missing and her right-tentacle squid Marie tasks the player to search for Callie and the Great Zapfish.

In a switch from the original Splatoon, players have more weapons to work with than just a simple splatershot. Players can use different weapons in single-player mode to overcome obstacles, defeat enemies and take down towering bosses – weapons like the Roller, Slosher, Splatling or the new Dualies.

The single-player mode is designed to teach players tips and tricks that they can then use in multiplayer.

Gear Customization And Ability Re-Roll Supported In Splatoon 2

Posted on April 19, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

The fine researchers over at the “squid research lab” have shared their latest findings about Splatoon 2 for the Nintendo Switch. The game will allow players to unlock new abilities linked to their clothing and even have the ability to “re-roll” these abilities if they don’t suit their playstyle.

Gear is split up into three different categories just like in the first game – headgear, footwear and clothing. Each piece of gear can have a number of different abilities available and these abilities will become unlocked by simply playing with the clothing equipped. While unlocking abilities will be a matter of playing Splatoon 2 with your favorite freshest threads, the Squid Research Lab did mention that in addition to returning abilities, a whole suite of new abilities will be included in the sequel.

A new NPC by the name of Murch will help players with their customized gear – by paying a small fee players can have the attached abilities removed from a piece of gear. Gear abilities that “fall off” will be placed in the player’s possession and once they’ve collected enough of them an near infinite amount of new combinations become available!

Splatoon 2 will be released for the Nintendo Switch on July 21st in North America.

Splatoon 2 Has A Single Player Story Set Two Years After First Game

Posted on January 29, 2017 by Les Major

Splatoon 2 Title

WHAT? Where was this news at the Nintendo Switch reveal? That’s right! I heard officially from a Nintendo PR rep at our recent Switch press event that yes, Splatoon 2 will indeed have a single player story campaign just like the first. So far we’ve only seen the multiplayer battle and some of the new weapons making this news HUGE! Splatoon 2 isn’t just a new block of updates on a new console, it really is a true sequel!

In my upcoming video interview you’ll get to see our conversation firsthand. I was mainly trying to see if there were further details like a new hub world or something amazing like apartments for your character. Neither of those details were confirmed or denied, but instead our gracious host did fill me in on the fact that there is more to do than just PVP battles in the new Splatoon title.

I know, it was probably to be expected, but now it’s CONFIRMED! Even when I was talking to other reps at the event, they were surprised to hear about the single player campaign. So I don’t know just how new this news is but a quick search online doesn’t reveal much about this confirmation at all! So there you have it folks. Stay fresh!

Splatoon 2 Will Splat Ink All Over The Switch This Summer

Posted on January 13, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Nintendo’s favorite squid kids will be arguing whether they should be Squids Now or Kids Now with the return of ink turf wars this summer for the Nintendo Switch. Revealed during the Nintendo Switch presentation in the typical humorous Splatoon style a cosplaying Ninty Rep made an appearance as the Squid Researcher who brought us updates on the original game’s Tumbler account two years ago.

Splatoon 2 will bring a number of new hairstyles, clothes and fresh threads for Squid Kids to enjoy on a whole suite of brand new battle arenas. In the reveal trailer we got a look at a new type of roller that can splat ink forward, a set of dual pistols that rapidly fire ink like a machine gun pistol and a whole bunch of new super weapons including a ink missile launcher and an INK JET PACK. It was also confirmed that Splatoon 2 will be playable either using the pro controller, the Joycons via motion control, Joycons via controller dock or on the tablet by itself in handheld mode.

Splatoon 2 will be released on Nintendo Switch sometime this summer and will feature a post-release free DLC campaign, similar to the one that brought a number of new pieces of content to the original game for months after release.

Posted on August 15, 2016 by Jason Nason

Before the launch of Splatoon, Nintendo launched a short demo called Testfire. The demo allowed gamers to give the essential Splatoon multiplayer a go prior to the release of the game. The timed demo worked only for a short period. Testfire, the Splatoon demo, is back.

From August 25th thru August 28th between the hours of 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM ET each day, anyone with a Nintendo Wii U console can download the free demo for the Splatoon in Nintendo eShop. This Summer Splatdown event, as it’s being called, gives anyone who hasn’t played the game yet a chance to play Splatoon and experience its inktastic multiplayer gameplay.

All you have to do is download the demo and launch the Splatoon Testfire demo during the designated hours to fight it out in Turf War battles. The fun fun multiplayer mode pits you and three other players against an opposing team of four to cover the most territory possible with colorful ink. It’s one of the core modes of Splatoon and is the perfect introduction to what the game has to offer. During the Splatoon Testfire demo, players can try out four different weapons across two popular maps:
