Special Zelda Bundle Coming with Black and Gold 3DS XL

Posted on November 14, 2013 by Jason Nason

Nintendo shed a little more light on their upcoming title The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds on Wednesday’s Nintendo Direct, including the revelation that the company will be releasing four new 15-second mini-trailers for The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds mini trailers. The quick clips will debut on Nintendo’s Instagram page.

Nintendo also detailed a number of characters in the game, including Irene and her magic broom; Seres, who is trapped in a painting; and Gramps, who can help facilitate battles with other players encountered via StreetPass.

Perhaps the biggest news about the game, which wasn’t entirely unexpected, is that on November 22nd when the game launches a new Nintendo 3DS XL bundle will launch. The bundle will include a Nintendo 3DS XL hardware with gold-and-black coloring and the Triforce on the exterior. The game will come bundled with a digital copy of the game and will retail price for $219.99.

3DS Updates Coming, including Miiverse

Posted on November 13, 2013 by Jason Nason

Nintendo will be updating the 3DS next month which will see a few new features added to the handheld.

One thing that many users have been clamouring for is the combination of eShop balances between the 3DS and Wii U. Right now when you add funds to your 3DS those funds are only available on the handheld. In the same respect funds added to your Wii U for eShop purchases and downloads are only usable on your Wii U. Once the update comes you will be able to use the same Nintendo Network ID for both systems which will allow the funds to be pooled between the two systems.

Users who have a Wii U already have the NNID. Connecting it to your 3DS will let those funds be used on your 3DS as well.

Another new feature being added to the 3DS is Miiverse, the community that is currently only available on the Wii U. With the previous announcment that Nintendo is going to be allowing remote Miiverse access from smartphones and computers this now allows those with only a 3DS to join in on the fun.

3DS Focused Nintendo Direct Scheduled for Tomorrow

Posted on November 12, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Everyone might be talking about the impending release of the PlayStation 4 but Nintendo hasn’t forgotten their handheld’s devoted following with the announcement of a Nintendo Direct scheduled for tomorrow. Both Nintendo of America and Nintendo Europe will be simultaneously broadcasting this latest game focused showcase.

Some games that may be highlighted during tomorrow’s stream: Mario Gold 3DS, Bravely Default Fairy, Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy and perhaps the upcoming Mario Kart 3DS. If Nintendo really wants to shake away some coverage from Microsoft and Sony’s upcoming console launches maybe they should throw in a brief teaser for Smash Bros for WiiU and 3DS.

You’ll be able to catch the Nintendo Direct through this link at 8 A.M PST!

Warner Bros Interactive Announces Middle-Earth: Shadow Of Mordor

Posted on November 12, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Warner Bros Interactive has announced a brand new Lord of the Rings videogame with the reveal of Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor. A third person action game, Mordor casts the player as Talion a range whom is killed while battling the forces of Mordor. As he draws his final breath Talion is revived by the spirit of vengeance and given the same powers that the Ring Wraiths posses. Sworn to destroy the forces that ended his mortal existence, Shadow of Mordor sounds like an awesome tale of revenge with a fantasy twist.

The developers have also revealed one of the game’s unique mechanics – the fact that each enemy you encounter is different. Every character will have their own attributes such as strength, their own personality and their own weaknesses. Also briefly mentioned was the Nemesis System where Talion will forge rivalries with enemy NPCs. It is unknown if the Nemesis System pertains to only major characters in the story-line or if its type specific, similar to the way that players can have a “favoured” enemy in some pen & paper systems, affording them extra bonuses.

Shadows of Mordor will be released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. If you’re looking for more updates why not head on over to their official website or twitter page?

HyperDimension Neptunia: Victory Coming PSN

Posted on November 11, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Did you miss out on NIS’ videogame-history inspired RPG Hyperdimension Neptunia when it was released this past March? If you did then don’t worry about trying to hunt down a physical copy at your local EB Games or paying inflated prices on Amazon or Ebay because NIS America / NIS Europe will be releasing the game on the PlayStation Network. You’ll be available to download the game in the comfort of your own home right to your PlayStation 3 console. It’ll be available November 26th or 27th depending on your region!

Hyperdimension Neptunia is the third game in the long running RPG franchise. Featuring a self-aware, and often fourth wall breaking main character – Neptune – these games blend traditional roleplaying mechanics with video game references and tropes. Unlike other entries in the series, Victory takes cues from the system wars of the 1980s. Be prepared to be transported back to the 8-bit wars of yesteryear! Heck, the main character’s name, Neptune, is a reference to a failed SEGA console that didn’t see the light of day.

Pokémon X and Y | Review

Posted on November 9, 2013 by Jason Nason

It’s been a while since I’ve played a Pokémon game and I haven’t really played one since the original Pokémon Red way back in the day. Back when I picked up that game the craze in North America hadn’t yet begun. The television show wasn’t airing on television and kids weren’t gaga over trading cards. Heck, no one knew what the game was. Not even the guys at the video game store where I got my copy.

The main reason why I grabbed the game was based on the description from a friend, another founding member of Darkain Arts Gamers. The idea that I could play an RPG and not only fight monsters, but also capture them and have them fight for me was something new to me and very appealing. It was only later that I learned about what the game was all about.

For the most part Pokémon X and Y for the Nintendo 3DS haven’t changed that much from the original Game Boy Pokémon Red and Blue games that I remember. The visuals of course are much better but everything that I loved in the first game is just the same.

Perhaps the reason that I haven’t played the other games is that I figured that the games would be too similar, but I kind of like the fact that this game is so similar. The sound effects and music is all very familiar.

The Guided Fate Paradox | Review

Posted on November 9, 2013 by Les Major

Taking a look at Celestia as the main focus instead of the Netherworld makes The Guided Fate Paradox a fresh and interesting title by the development team behind Disgaea. Much like the games setting, the system involved is unique as well. Technically you can think of this as angels and demons being trained differently, though you’re really training a new “god” in Guided Fate.

Basically it seems like Celestia is looking for a new “god” to take over, and unlucky teenager Renya Kagurazaka has won a magical lottery that has chosen him as the new candidate to become “god” of Celestia, or at least your section of it. With the assistance of a new angel recruit being his guide, Renya learns how to use the Fate Revolution Circuit to answer prayers.Read More

Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness | Review

Posted on November 8, 2013 by Les Major

Finally, celebrating ten years later, we have a sequel to the original Disgaea. This all new game focuses again on Laharl, Etna, and Flonne after the events of the original. If you enjoyed the first game, odds are you’ll enjoy this one as well. It’ll draw you in, get you addicted, and leave you wanting to do just a few more item world runs.

The first thing I noticed about D2 is that the levels are well crafted. While this is nothing new for the series, they seem just as solid here. In some ways, the occasional one seems to be a bit more of a puzzle than usual. Of course, most of the time you can rush in if you’ve been grinding away for levels, but even then sometimes that doesn’t promise victory.Read More
