Posted on January 20, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

The upcoming Game Developer’s Conference will be held in San Francisco this coming March and ahead of the conference GDC has released their annual “State of the Industry” survey results. State of the Industry captures the pulse of the development community thanks to over 2,000 participants, the results give developers, students and the media (heh.. that’s us) a sense of what is trending in development circles.

Here are some of the interesting findings from the 2016 survey:

VR’s Popularity Among Developers Is On The Rise

Oculus-Rift-5

Development kits for the popular Oculus Rift have been available for sometime, Samsung has entered the fray with the Samsung Gear line-up of headsets and the consumer version of the Oculus will go on sale for $600 later this year. With all of that providing unprecedented levels of hype for Virtual Reality it is no surprise that 16% of respondents said that they were developing games with VR in mind.Read More

Dota 2 On Your ipad? It Could Happen Says Valve Boss

Posted on December 10, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Dota 2, Valve’s upcoming free to play MOBA game has been in closed beta for a while. According to Kotaku we could be enjoying the game on the next generation of tablets if a quote from Gabe Newell is spot on.

Valve tried to get the game running on some current tablets but they weren’t up to the job. Mr.Newell speculates that tablets of the not so distant future will have the horsepower to make Dota 2 run smoothly in the palms of your hands.

“We were working on getting Dota 2 running on some tablets .. That ended up being kind of a disappointment. But the good news is that tablets are getting faster very quickly, so I think we’ll get the kind of performance we want and other game developers want in the near future.”

I wonder what kind of hardware they are testing it on. Perhaps they are using the ipad 4, that is certainly one of the more powerful tablets out there. Then again there is always the quadcore Asus Transformer as well if they are playing with android. We’ll just have to wait and see if this project comes to fruition. Valve is known for playing with various ideas, even if they never pan into commercial products.

GTA: Vice City Celebrates 10 Years of Crime Sprees

Posted on November 29, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Maybe I’m just getting old but it is hard to believe that Grand Theft Auto: Vice City launched a decade ago today. Premiering just one year after the groundbreaking Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City transported us back two decades, to 1980s Miami. In celebration the game will be available on mobile platforms including Apple’s IOS!

I remember being so excited for the game back in high school. It was the one game that all of my friends were talking about at the time. Our excitement reached fever pitch when we set up a projector with a 20 FT screen and played in to the wee hours of the morning, committing unspeakable crimes! What is your fondest memory of the GTA Series? Love it or hate it, it has been a part of the gaming zeitgeist for almost two decades now!

Alongside a YouTube trailer, which you can watch here, RockStar provided us with a press release for the 10th anniversary of Vice City. Check it out below:Read More
