We Happy Few preview

Posted on August 6, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

We happy few is a game that appeared from nowhere to immense hype. A video at the Microsoft press conference showed a grim dystopian world in 1960s England. E3’s trailer peaked the interest of all involved with its dark atmosphere and air of mystery.  Well mystery no more, the folks at Compulsion Games have given PC gamers a chance to play their game while its still in early access. There is no story in the game, but its possible that you could be spoiled by my discussions of game mechanics, the atmosphere, and the perceived back story so far. So,

Everything New In The Xbox One ‘Anniversary Update’

Posted on August 1, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

The latest update to the Xbox One dashboard software has now rolled out for everyone and like its Windows 10 counterpart the ‘anniversary update’ brings a lot of changes to the software running under the hood of your Xbox console. We’ve documented all of the major changes so that you can get an informed taste of all of the improvements Microsoft has to offer. Background Music One of the coolest dashboard features from the Xbox 360s’ old “blade UI” was the built in ability to replace any in-game music with ripped CDs or tracks from an attached iPod. Xbox One Games With Gold For August Really Missed The Mark

Posted on July 26, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

I can’t help but get excited towards the end of the month because we get to find out what free treats both Microsoft and Sony have for subscribers. Next month’s line-up of free software for the Xbox One & Xbox 360 is not only underwhelming but also proves the thousands of players who cry out for “AAA titles” that they should be careful what they wish for. Just because a title is from a AAA developer or costs more than another indie title doesn’t necessarily mean it is going to cater to every Xbox Live subscriber. Case in point – the inclusion

Party Hard delivers slow methodical action | Review

Posted on July 20, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

Do your neighbors annoy you? Do you like killing? If you answered yes to either of these, you might like Party Hard. Ill set the stage for you. You’re a masked serial killer just trying to get some sleep. Its 3am and your neighbors are really, really, loud. So you kill them, all of them, while they party. That’s basically the whole game. But its all wrapped up in a really great package of pixely carnage action. It also has a ton of environmental things to play with. So Enviroment + killing + stupid neighbors = a fun action game.

A Chat With Ty Taylor About Tumblestone & Working With Microsoft

Posted on July 16, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Ty Taylor‘s unique take on the match 3 puzzle formula, Tumblestone, is now available for free to all Xbox Live Gold subscribers on Xbox One and we got a chance to ask him a few questions. In our brief discussion we talked about what it was like to work with Microsoft on Games With Gold, the local Seattle indie games scene and what Ty’s plans are for the game post launch.   Broken Joysticks: How does it feel to have Tumblestone finally complete and about to be in the hands of potentially millions of players? Ty Taylor: It’s certainly nearing complete! We’re still

New Games Coming To The Origin Access (PC) and EA Access (Xbox One) Vault

Posted on July 13, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Last year’s street racing focused reboot of the Need For Speed franchise is making its way to both the EA Access vault on Xbox One as well as Origin Access’ game vault on Windows PC this week. The latest NFS title received a mediocre reception – averaging just 66 on Metacritic but surely this won’t stop subscribers from getting at least a few hours of enjoyment out of the title. Alongside the racer EA’s absolutely adorable Unravel will join the collection on both platforms this week as well. I played the 2-hour trial when that hit EA Access this past

Warner Bros. LEGO Star Wars TFA Event Was Amazing!

Posted on June 28, 2016 by Les Major

Last Monday was nothing short of amazing! As part of a small group of media we were able to visit an exclusive event at The Rogers Center in downtown Toronto. That’s right, the exact field the Toronto Blue Jays play at became a fantastic spectacle to highlight Traveller’s Tales upcoming new LEGO Star Wars release. We entered to the familiar John Williams score, making our way up into the TD Comfort Clubhouse to enjoy an all star treatment while being some of the first in Canada to play the new game.

Turtle Beach announces Elite Pro headset at E3 2016

Posted on June 24, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

I don’t usually consider the thing that sits on my head while I am gaming a premium piece of hardware. Usually it’s just whatever headphones I use for editing video or audio. Turtle beach wants to change that with their newest set of headphones, the Elite Pro headset. The Elite Pro sells for $200USD and Turtle Beach have pulled out all the stops making this one. E3 2016 with Turtle Beach The first thing turtle beach said to us was that this headset has been designed with “competitive gaming” in mind. I was a skeptical, but when Turtle Beach sat me down

Warhammer Inquisitor Martyr – E3 hands on preview

Posted on June 22, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

Warhammer Inquisitor Martyr was one of the games I most wanted to see at E3. I am a massive fan of Warhammer 40K and this game has a custom physics engine on board, to make everything look awesome, and be able to be destroyed. I was unsure of how cover would work in an ARPG styled game, but it turned out I didnt really need it at all. Check out the trailer below for a good idea of how the game plays. I found Neocore Games booth way in the back of South hall, as I approached and saw just a few
