Second Dimension: The Warrior’s Code Interview

Posted on March 26, 2013 by Broken Joysticks

The fighting game community (FGC) has grown from holding local events at smaller venues to occupying ballrooms at four-star establishments with talent from all across the globe attending. Major sponsors such as Capcom, Namco Bandai, and others are responsible for the development of some of the world’s most famous franchises in gaming, and are showcased at a central tournament featuring the top fighting talent from across the world. With major prize pools, fighting games are now reaching a platform that can be compared to traditional eSports.

Every week, I’ll be posting interviews I’ve had the pleasure of conducting with members of the fighting game community. The interviews will touch upon their history in the FGC, where they got their start, and what they’d like to see from video games in general.

This weeks guest is a man who has been catching my attention as of late in tournaments: Tayson Defas a.k.a. GU Tayson.Read More

Terraria Hits Xbox Live Arcade Tomorrow!

Posted on March 26, 2013 by Joshua Rust

While comparisons between Minecraft and Terraria are as common as snow in New England, Terraria looks to be an entity in its’ own right. I love Minecraft, it’s one game that my daughter and I can sit down and play for hours, but I’m really excited to play something a little different that has the same style.

I’ll be honest, I haven’t actually played the PC version of this so I don’t quite know exactly how this one plays ….but it appears to be more fast paced and more action oriented than Minecraft. The addition of 4 vs. 4 competitive multiplayer over Xbox Live should be quite interesting as well. Not to mention being able to ride whales underwater, magical unicorns, and a huge selection of weapons and armor.

Who can turn down magical unicorns and whale riding, right?Read More

Bioshock: Infinite Launch Trailer

Posted on March 25, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Who’s ready for Bioshock: Infinite? Well, the wait isn’t too much longer (for me…about 6 more hours since I’m headed to the midnight launch!) as it hits retail stores tomorrow! If you are on the fence about this game I highly recommend you jump off that fence and get to your local game store tomorrow as Bioshock: Infinite has been well received by the critics thus far. The PC version, via Metacritic, has over 38 critics reviews thus far and is averaging in at 95/100. That’s pretty impressive so far.

The launch trailer for Bioshock: Infinite has been released today from 2K games & Irrational Games to get you more pumped up for it’s release.Read More

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Trailer

Posted on March 25, 2013 by Joshua Rust

I felt that the naval battles of Assassin’s Creed III is one of the best new features that has come to the franchise, which you can read my review here. Granted I don’t want Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag to be all about those naval battles, I do want to see a good “pirate” game so to speak. In Black Flag you will take on the role of Edward Kenway, who is the father of Haytham Kenway who you will remember from Assassin’s Creed III. Edward is a British pirate and member of the Assassin Order. You will take him all across the Caribbean to places like Havana, Kingston, & Nassau. Read More

Borderlands 2 Gets Level Cap Increase & Sixth Playable Character

Posted on March 25, 2013 by Joshua Rust

We all knew it was a matter of time before Gearbox Software announced a level cap increase. But we also pondered what the pricing would be. Would it be free for the season pass holders? Are they going to do the insane and make us pay more for it? And when the heck is it going to release? Also, at the beginning of the month they teased a new, 6th playable character as well. When is that going to release? What kind of character is it going to be? Gearbox has finally answered most of these questions – to an extent. Read More

Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of Dusk | Review

Posted on March 25, 2013 by Broken Joysticks

Tecmo Koei is probably best known for its innovative and creative item crafting based series Atelier, developed by Gust, which is one of the more respected series in the JRPG genre. Whereas other JRPGs have usually focused on straight-forward “save the world” stories, and many other games skewing darker and darker in the modern gaming world, it is nice to know that a developer can still put out something nice and fluffy, while nonetheless, still be engaging and entertaining.Read More

Is Call of Duty: Ghosts Activision’s Next Big Game?

Posted on March 25, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Over the weekend the Spring Equinox happened, and just like the seasons change, the next Call of Duty‘s reveal should only be a few short weeks away. Supposed details surrounding the game’s plot, weapons and mechanics are supposedly starting to leak out. Considering the source, a random YouTube user, take all of what is coming with a grain of salt, but keep in mind that Modern Warfare 3 had its own huge leak two years ago that proved accurate.Read More

Saint’s Row IV Once Featured Dragons & Stephen Colbert

Posted on March 25, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Would you believe us if we told you that Saints Row IV originally featured Stephen Colbert as the president of the United States? How about taking a page from Skyrim, with dragons flying around all over the place?

For a game originally scheduled to be a downloadable expansion to Saints Row IV, titled Enter The Dominatrix, The folks at Violition have had so many crazy ideas that they have tossed entire drafts of the game’s script in to the trashbin. All of the details come from a rather detailed piece over at IGN.Read More

Dead or Alive 5 Plus | Review

Posted on March 24, 2013 by Jason Fayta

The PlayStation Vita is starting to become a portable utopia for fighting fans. Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Street Fighter X Tekken, Mortal Kombat, BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend, and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale already grace the system, and if you include the games available from the PSP’s library, such a Tekken 6 and Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max, you have a line-up of titles that should appease the most ardent of fighting fans.

Dead or Alive 5 Plus (hereafter DOA5+), Team Ninja’s portable installment of Dead or Alive 5, has a lot of competition, and with the aforementioned ports all ranging from good to excellent, a lot to live up to as well. Overall, the port delivers, bringing almost the entire console experience to the PlayStation Vita.Read More

Reminder: Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory Now Available

Posted on March 24, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Fans of JRPG and NIS America’s quirky sense of humor can rejoice as Hyper Dimension Neptunia Victory is now available at North American retail, after a slight delay. This is a game I’ve personally been following for months and can’t wait to spend hours with Neptunia and her video-game inspired ensemble.

The game’s story takes place sever years after the prevention of Arfoire’s revival. While GamesIndutri has enjoyed relative peace, Neptune has been transported to an alternate world facing off against a “group of seven” who seek to rid this strange world of the CPUs. Based off the 1980s videogame culture, this alternate GamesIndustri is certainly going to surprise even the most hard core of fans!

New gameplay mechanics include the ability to set up combos with your party members to deal MASSIVE DAMAGE (god that pun was horrible.. excuse me), sending out scouts to gain intel on future dungeons and the ability to “burn” game discs, allowing you to learn a whole host of hidden moves.

Hyper Dimension Neptunia is available at major retailers for $59.99!

Minecraft “Title Update 9” Teaser Trailer

Posted on March 22, 2013 by Joshua Rust

A few days ago we brought you news that Minecraft will be headed to retail in the form of a disc (Yay!). Today Mojang & Microsoft have released a new trailer detailing what will be in “Title Update 9.” Unfortunately they still haven’t given a firm release date on when it will hit our Xbox 360 consoles, but we expect it will be before or on the same day that Minecraft hits retail stores (April 30th).Read More
