Star Wars Battlefront 2 Multiplayer | Review

Posted on November 12, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

A Word Regarding Review Copies: Electronic Arts acknowledged Broken Joysticks’ request for a review copy of Star Wars: Battlefront II but did not provide the site with a review code in time for publication. This review is based on several hours of play time with the 10-hour “Origin Trial”, which is too my knowledge the final retail code that players will experience on November 17th. I played the PC version of Battlefront II but the EA Access trial was also available to owners of Microsoft’s Xbox One and Xbox One X consoles as well.  Update 11.13.2017 3:50 MST: Electronic Arts have issued a blog post detailing changes coming

Microtransactions Outpacing Game Sales Sets a Worrying Precedent

Posted on November 9, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

You might have already heard the news yesterday: Ubisoft mentioned on their Investor’s Call that “Player Recurring Investments” (read: microtransactions) have outpaced the sale of full price and discounted digital copies of their games for the first time ever. In terms of raw numbers of the 343 million euros the company made from their digital businesses 175 million Euros were the result of “Player Recurrent Investments” (which include microtransactions, add-on DLCs, Rainbow Six Siege Season Passes, subscriptions and those sorts of things). The 83% rise in microtransaction purchases over the past year for Ubisoft could signal the tipping point where small recurring payments within the AAA games

Meet The Latest Hero For Overwatch: Moira

Posted on November 4, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

The latest ‘Hero’ to join the ranks of Overwatch’s roster is the Tallon geneticist Moira. Clad in purples and blacks this support hero uses her scientific knowledge to heal her allies and damage her foes, sometimes simultaneously. Needless to say, her reveal came as a complete surprise, unlike last year’s Sombra reveal, Jeff Kaplan got to keep Moira’s debut a complete secret until he could unveil her to millions of fans during the BlizzCon 2017 opening ceremonies.  She has a healing beam which is she uses to restore health on her allies using her left hand. A dark energy creeps out from her right hand, dealing damage to her foes and healing her and

Scream “NERF THIS” At Your Opponents With This Official Overwatch Headset

Posted on November 4, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

The stylistic headgear worn by Blizzard’s fictional pro Starcraft player, D.VA , can soon be yours with the announcement of a line of officially licensed peripherals based around everyone’s favorite gremlin.   Razer will be releasing Razer Meka Headset, styled after the iconic headgear and color scheme that D.VA sports with her default outfit in Overwatch. Seriously look at the screen grab from the trailer below, I honestly screamed when I saw this headset – it’s perfect for protecting the payload!  The Razer Abyssus Elite mouse sports the purple and pink aesthetic that D.VA is known for combined with the matte black used in a lot of Razer’s product line. Don’t

Destiny 2 Update 1.06 Now Live On All Platforms

Posted on November 3, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

The latest patch for Destiny 2, bringing the game up to version 1.06 is now live across all platforms – PS4, Xbox One and PC. One of the big changes included in this update is an increase in a number of Faction Points that Guardians can earn per activity completed. Strikes and Nightfalls will now dole out more Faction Tokens while Heroic Events have had their amount of Faction Tokens nerfed. Destroying enemy resources also no longer rewards Faction Tokens at all.  Crucible matches have had their win conditions adjusted, with a number of modes having the total # of points required for victory reduced.

EA May Discount Battlefront II When The Last Jedi Releases In December

Posted on November 3, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Star Wars Battlefront II isn’t out for another two weeks but thanks to a quote from Blake J. Jorgenson ( E.VP and Chief Financial Officer at Electronic Artes) during a recent inventors call, we now know that the publisher may offer some form of discount to tie into the theatrical release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.  Retailers dropping the price on AAA titles during the rush of pre-Christmas shopping is increasingly common, especially with things like Black Friday. Electronic Arts itself has a history of discounting their popular titles: last year Titanfall 2 could be found for under $40CDN during EA’s own Origin Holiday Sale last year. Two years ago, when The Force

World of Final Fantasy Coming To Steam This November

Posted on November 1, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Chibi versions of some of our favorite Final Fantasy characters will migrate onto a brand new platform, Windows PC, with the re-release of World of Final Fantasy on Steam later this month.  Exploring the world of Grymoire as twins Reynn & Lann as they aim to capture classic FF monsters is an enjoyable and light-hearted romp, in my experience.  While I have yet to finish World of Final Fantasy on either PS4 or PS Vita yet, the time I did spend with the game was not only enjoyable but the writing (and generous amount of puns) left me with a smile on my face.   Players who purchase the Day One edition on November 21st will get access

Fortnite (PVE) | Early Access Review

Posted on October 30, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

First marketed as a unique crossover between Minecraft’s base building & resource collection and Gears of War’s Horde Mode, Fortnite has been in the news recently for the success (and controversy) of its Free 2 Play Battle Royale mode. After spending countless hours playing the “Survive The Storm” Player Vs Environment mode on two different platforms I’m ready to give my detailed impressions of Fortnite’s PVE experience as it currently exists. Early Access Disclaimer:  A copy of “Fortnite: Founder’s Edition Standard” was provided by Epic Games for the purpose of this review. No other loot pinatas or other Microtransactions were

Razer Announces Two New Budget Chroma Keyboards

Posted on October 27, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Hardware manufacturer Razer has announced two brand new budget keyboards that support the company’s propriety Chroma RGB light-up technology at a lower price point than their premium Razer Blackwidow Chroma or Razer Ornata Chroma lines.  First up is the Razer Cynosa Chroma keyboard which offers access to the individual key light-up technology, spill-resistant design, and Razer Synapsis compatibility that its pricier siblings offer. The Cynosa’s more feature rich sibling is the Razer Cynosa Chroma Pro keyboard which offers the same features in addition to the “underglow” technology which allows the user to customize a RGB glow that surrounds the keyboard with a programmable color that can match your individual keys. “Underglow” does not only make the border of your keyboard a single color, but Razer’s software allows you to customize the color, density and breathability of 24 different “zones”.  The Razer Cynosa Chroma keyboard has

Epic Game’s Fortnite isn’t one to be left out on the Holiday festivities. With just 5 days to go until All Hollow’s Eve, this large & spooky update is ready to scare up some fun for both Battle Royale players and those of us who prefer to Save The World.  New additions to Battle Royale include a brand new baseline item called the “Slurp Juice” which is a 25-second heal over time which will heal 1 health and 1 shield per second and then go on cooldown. Cosmetic items have also been added to BR mode, with two character skins – Skull Tropper & Ghoul Trooper available for purchase with real-world

EVE Online’s Lifeblood Expansion Is Now Live

Posted on October 25, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Just a small reminder that the latest expansion to CCP Games’ Eve Online, Lifeblood was released yesterday. With this latest expansion Capsuleers living in high-security space receive two brand new forms of PVE content with the release of Resource Wars and Forward Operating Bases. Alongside the release of these new modes, CCP has also made a balance pass to the post of the ships Free To Play Alpha Clones can fly, with most ships except the Vexor receiving a damage buff. Previously I covered all of the big announcements made at the EVE VEGAS convention a few weeks ago. The primary

Posted on October 25, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

User reports from launch day suggest that PC players of Bungie’s Destiny 2 may find themselves with a permanent ban if they are using common PC benchmarking tools like FRAPS and MSI AfterBurner or chat programs like Discord with the overlay functionality enabled.  Over on /r/DestinyTheGame several users have reported that their accounts or friends accounts have been banned without explanation for running common PC programs in the background while playing Destiny 2.   Here is a short (and at all definitive) list of programs that MAY cause interference with Destiny 2. This list is based upon user reports and has not been confirmed by the game’s

Reminder: Be Prepared For Tomorrow’s Launch By Pre-Loading Destiny 2 On PC

Posted on October 24, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

As of the writing of this post, there’s TECHNICALLY only one hour left of October 23rd in the MDT time zone, but hey it’s technically accurate.  If you’ve pre-purchased Destiny 2 on PC and want to make sure your game is available for when servers go live at 10 am PDT tomorrow, here is your final reminder to pre-load the game in time for launch. Sitting at staggering 60+ GBs the final install size of Destiny 2 is going to eat up a good chunk of your hard drive. So far pre-loading seems to be working fine on our end. I finished the 30+ GB download in
