Broken Joysticks E3 Reactions #1

Posted on June 13, 2012 by Kirk Williford

E3 is over and now it’s time for our staff to share their thoughts on the show. First up executive editor Kirk Wiliford:

Mark down E3 2012 as being one of the most boring, uninteresting and flat-out underwhelming E3s of all time. You know it’s bad when I can only recall one major new IP being announced, and although Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs looks absolutely fantastic, it wasn’t enough to save the show. From Usher concerts to TechDemoLand, there were lots of things to be concerned about going into the future of the E3 expo. Here’s just a snippet of what I thought about E3 2012, condensed into my three biggest questions:Read More

Wonderbook Announced for PS3

Posted on June 4, 2012 by Jason Bassett

Sony announced today that Wonderbook will head to the PS3. The Wonderbook is a physical book that will be able to be used with the Playstation eye. The Wonderbook will be working with developers and storybook games. Moonbot Studios will be heading up developers to work on the book.

Diggs Nightcrawler was also announced for the Wonderbook.

Books of Spells has also been announced for the Wonderbook by JK Rowling. The book will also work in tandem with Pottermore, the website that focuses on Harry Potter lore. A demo was shown for Book of Spells, in the demo, there were two people kneeling down using their book. Using the Playstation Move, the user will be able to create spells by using the Move as wander; the Move will hover over the book to work with the Move.

Using the book, a dragon pops out of the book and on to the TV screen. A big fire erupts from the Dragon’s mouth. You can put the  fire out by using your hands. The next demo shows the Playstation Book as a player. Words are shown from above the book to following along with the story. You can then learn spells by using the Move to make gestures. When you learn the spell, you can learn a new gesture to cast it whenever you wish. Using the gesture, you can fight against the dragon that was causing havoc before.

Also explain, you can also take tests that will put your knowledge to the test.

Be able to control stories using the PS Camera Wonderbook

AC III Spinoff Featuring a Female Protagonist Heading To Vita?

Posted on June 2, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

The next mobile entry in the Assassins Creed franchise may have been revealed in the latest Game Informer if information posted to popular gaming forum NEOGAF is correct. A member of the NEOGAF community claims to have got their hands on issue of the latest GI which features a preview for Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation for PlayStation Vita.

Supposedly the game will take place alongside Assassins Creed III and will star a young female protagonist named Aveline as she explores New Orleans. Connor from the console version of assassin’s Creed three is also said to make an appearance in Liberation. The title of the game suggests that the slave trade will play a role in the game’s plot and according to the post on NEOGAF Aveline’s mentor maybe an escaped slave.

Hopefully the rumors surrounding Liberation end up being true. We will find out more during either Ubisoft’s or Sony’s press comments on Monday.

WipeOut 2048 Vita | Review

Posted on May 21, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

The launch of a brand new PlayStation platform and the WipeOut franchise almost go hand in hand. When the original PlayStation Portable launched in 2005 with the phenomenal WipeOut Pure followed by 2009s WipeOut Pulse. Even the PlayStation 3 got in on the action with 2008’s WipeOut HD. Does WipeOut’s formula of futuristic racing machines, hard hitting weapons and breakneck speed equal fun on Sony’s latest handheld?

WipeOut 2048 like its predecessors brings the entire package to Sony’s new handheld. Just because the game is being placed on a Vita Game Card doesn’t mean that SCE LiverPool had to compromise any of its artistic vision. Those of you looking for a faced paced racer are in for a treat with 2048, as the game offers several different game modes including offensive/defensive only events, time trials, four different classes of ships (D through A) and four distinct seaons (one per class).Read More

Posted on May 8, 2012 by Matthew Regier

I had the opportunity to go spend a day at a Sony press event where they were able to show off a bunch of upcoming games coming out for the Playstation 3 and Vita. Beforehand I only knew of a handful of titles that were going to be there, so when I arrived and found twice the amount of TVs I was expecting I have to admit I was pretty excited, especially for a couple of the titles that I will talk about in a bit. I’m going to discuss my time with the games and my initial opinions on everything that I saw.

There’s plenty to discuss so read on…

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Revealed

Posted on April 27, 2012 by Matthew Regier

Sony has stepped up to bat with their new Sony property fighting game PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. What this game is, is essentially taking characters from different Sony licenses and putting them together and having them fight each other, much like the popular Nintendo franchise that came before it.

So far there have been six characters announced in this early version of the game. The six confirmed characters are: Kratos, Sly Cooper, Fat Princess, Sweet Tooth, Parappa the Rapper, and Mael Radec (Killzone). What makes this title different is in how you win. Where you need to strike the opposing players with specials that go up through levels of one to three, each doing different attacks and being able to take out more enemies.
