Posted on June 24, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

DriveClub’s free PlayStation Plus version will be launching tomorrow on the North American PlayStation Store Evolution Studios has announced. This free version of Sony’s latest racer comes a full eight months after the release of the full retail version and more than two years after DriveClub was announced alongside the PlayStation 4. Evolution says that they needed the extra time to ensure that their multiplayer servers were up to handling the potentially millions of gamers eligible for the PlayStation Plus version. The much vaunted online modes won’t be available at release for everyone who downloads DriveClub: PlayStation Plus Edition. Instead

Impressions: Final Fantasy XIV Heavensward

Posted on June 22, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Tomorrow marks the launch of the highly anticipated Final Fantasy XIV: Heavansward for Windows PC, PlayStation 4 and PS3. Players who pre-ordered the expansion have been able to set foot in the lands of Ishgard for the past three days during Heavensward’s early access period and I was fortunate enough to be granted passage through the borders of the long closed land. Here are my initial impressions of Heavensward after playing about the first ten hours.

Horizon Zero Dawn Looks Absolutely Fantastic

Posted on June 18, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Guerilla Games has been pretty quiet about what shape their next PlayStation 4 exclusive would take. Two years after the release of Killzone: Shadowfall Guerilla took the wraps off of their latest project Horizon Zero Dawn during this week’s PlayStation Media Briefing at E3.  To say that this 7 minute debut trailer has me excited about the future of Sony’s latest platform would be doing Horizon a disservice, it is possibly the freshest new IP I’ve seen in years.

Fatal Frame for Wii U Gets Western Release

Posted on June 18, 2015 by Jason Nason

Nintendo officially announced the western release of Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water at E3 on Tuesday. The game came out in Japan last year and is exclusive to the Wii U. The concept of the game comes from Japanese-style horror which revolves around Japanese buildings, using cameras, and the fear of “getting wet”. The game takes place in a big environment involving mountains, lakes and graveyards. According to the game producer, Keisuke Kikuchi, there will be many damp areas and quite scary figures, like traditional Japanese ghost girls who appear completely drenched in water. While the game has no

Metroid Prime Federation Force Blasts onto 3DS in 2016

Posted on June 18, 2015 by Jason Nason

Nintendo likes to tease their new games, and one of the things that I said in my pre-E3 wishlist was for new game announcements to have a “this year” release date. No vague “coming soon” or just “2016” release dates. And while this game falls into the later category, I’m okay with that for now. The truth is I need to see more of what this game is all about. This is the (as far as I can recall) the first cooperative Metroid game. From the start of the franchise on the NES, Metroid has been a solo affair. You

New Wii U Animal Crossing game and amiibo Coming

Posted on June 18, 2015 by Jason Nason

A bunch of newly revealed games were unveiled during Nintendo’s Digital Event at E3 on Tuesday, including a brand new Animal Crossing for the Wii U. The new game looks to take a page out of the Mario Party playbook and features the animal residents from Animal Crossing in a board game type game. In Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival players are challenged to collect the most Happy Points by the end of a dynamic board game. The board layout can remain the same, but the spaces and even the environment change, depending on which month players choose for their game.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Heading To PS4

Posted on June 15, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Square Enix showcased a teaser trailer for the long awaited Final Fantasy 7 remake at Sony’s E3 2015 press conference. The teaser trailer talks about a world falling into ruin and a group of heroes returning. If that makes this title sound like a sequel, it’s not.. the crowd literally erupted in energetic applause that is hard to describe in words. This a game that people have waited almost 20 years to be remade When the PlayStation 3 was announced in 2005 Square Enix showed off an impressive remake the train sequence from the original game and at the time

Sony Opens It’s Conference With Proof That The Last Guardian Is Real

Posted on June 15, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Sony took the opportunity to open it’s E3 2015 press conference with a nearly 7 minute demonstration of The Last Guardian. During the gameplay demo we see the giant dog-bird creature in all of its majesty cross platforms and make new areas accessible for the game’s child protagonist. The boy pushed and pull in-game object to try and make his way around the game’s environment – luckily just as trouble started brewing the dog-bird was there ready to save the day. Earlier this week I posted an editorial about why you shouldn’t care about The Last Guardian but I can’t

Backwards Compatibility Coming To Xbox One

Posted on June 15, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Xbox boss Phil Spencer announced this morning that the Xbox One will be able to play select Xbox 360 titles starting this fall. Backwards compatibility has been a bit of a sore spot this generation, with the exception of the WiiU which offers complete compatibility with previous hardware neither the Xbox One nor PlayStation 4 have offered comprehensive solutions for gamers looking to enjoy some of their favorite classics. Sure Sony offers PlayStation Now but that service costs about $15 USD a month and unless you live in an area with reliable internet it is not a perfect solution. Starting

Watch Ten Minutes of DOOM Footage From Bethesda’s E3 Conference

Posted on June 14, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Bethesda opened up their E3 press conference with a whole bunch of blood and guts with not one but two gameplay demos for their upcoming reboot of Doom. It is clear from the on stage presentation that this version of Doom won’t feature some of the shooter staples that have developed over the past decade – like regenerating health. Instead what we get is a pretty straightforward shooter that focuses on gory impact and over powered weapons. As for what weapons we saw on stage – the double barreled “super shotgun” returns from earlier entries, as done a large chain

Electronic Arts have revealed their full E3 line-up (not including unannounced titles) that will be playable on the show floor.  Yearly releases like FIFA, NHL, PGA Tour and Need for Speed are ready to be played by the gaming press, VIP and industry insiders. Surprisingly EA will also have a playable demo of Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst on the floor as well – here’s hoping that they show at least a few sections of the E3 demo during their press conference. Speaking of EA’s E3 press conference it will be taking place at 1PM PST tomorrow and if you’re not in
