Posted on May 20, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, Remedy Entertainment’s long awaited semi-sequel to 2009’s Alan Wake was released on the Xbox Live Arcade this past February. It looks like Alan’s nightmares are far from over as American Nightmare is set to wreak havoc on Windows PC tomorrow through Steam for $14.99. The game features a single player campaign as well as the arcade like “Fight Til Dawn Mode” which tasks players with fighting hordes of enemies until the sun rises. The great thing about Fight Til Dawn is that it can be played co-operatively online with other players. You don’t have to face

Posted on May 19, 2012 by Andrew Minott

To update you on a previous story, Riot Games has announced that at the completion of their fundraiser on Friday, over $480,000 came in due to the participation of over 140,000 contributors, “100 percent of which will go to Make-A-Wish America and Make-A-Wish International in Joe’s name.” This fundraising plan by Riot mirrors one they ran a year ago to benefit the earthquake and tsunami relief efforts in Japan, where over 50,000 League of Legends players helped raise over $160,000 for the Red Cross.

MechWarrior Tactics Beta Imminent

Posted on May 19, 2012 by Andrew Minott

We’ve already told you about one MechWarrior game coming out this year. Did you know there was another? Being developed for a 2012 PC release by Roadhouse Interactive and ACRONYM Games, MechWarrior Tactics has a top-down battlefield perspective, and has players controlling squads of ‘Mechs (in contrast to MechWarrior Online, in which you control a single bipedal tank from a first-person perspective). And, according to an email sent out a couple days ago, you can acquire a closed beta key by subscribing to their temporary forum site right now. Check after the jump for some screenshots and some quick game

Hitler’s Dog to play a major role in Iron Front

Posted on May 18, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Deep Silver has just announced a novel multiplayer mode for X1 Software/AWAR’s upcoming WW2 tactical shooter Iron Front: Liberation 1944. The new mode, named “Assassinate the Blondie,” tasks two Soviet players with the job of killing Blondi, Hitler’s ever loyal German Shepherd. Two German players will naturally have to protect their Führer’s beloved pet. Doubtlessly, Blondi’s premature death would demoralize Hitler, and the repercussions would negatively affect the German war effort. It is unclear right now what Blondi will be doing. Will one of Hitler’s confidants be walking Blondi? Will Blondi be unleashed and aimlessly wandering about the map? Will

Ground-Attack Planes added to World of Warplanes

Posted on May 17, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Ground-attack aircraft have just been added to World of Warplanes, the sister game to World of Tanks. A recently released trailer and new screenshots show that players will be able to dive bomb targets with “flying tanks” like the IL-2. Does this mean that, eventually, World of Tanks players will be able to call for some close air support? I certainly hope so. World of Warplanes is still a ways out. However, those interested in trying it can sign up for the global alpha test at worldofwarplanes.com. Read on for a trailer and some screenshots.

Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion Beta Updated

Posted on May 17, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

The preorder beta for Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion, the upcoming stand alone expansion to the Sins of a Solar Empire series, has just been updated to its third version. The main addition is the inclusion of the Vasari, the sole non-human faction in the original Sins of a Solar Empire. Of course, it isn’t exactly a surprise that the Vasari are in Rebellion, but their presence is welcome. Without them, Sins would be about humans killing humans over whether religion or the free market should rule space. This is a false dichotomy. The Vasari should rule space. Rebellion

Indie Royale returns with another low-priced bundle of indie games for your indie pleasure, this time benefiting charities chosen by the developers. The Indie Royale Lightning Round All-Charity Pack comes with an incredibly long name, and the following assortment of video games: physics bubbler Osmos, real-life cheatfest B.U.T.T.O.N., rabbinical RPG The Shivah, and Blueberry Garden, which they describe as a “short experimental game about curiosity and exploration.” Currently, the base price for the bundle is in the low $4 range, and as usual the price will fluctuate based on whether or not customers pay more than the minimum amount or

People who preorder the game will get guaranteed access to the beta, an additional copy to give to a friend, and any XP gained during the beta will carry over into launch. However, the beta isn’t limited to those who preorder the game. Anyone can sign up here. What is interesting about Fray is that it’s a turn based game where everyone’s orders play out in real time. That formula has made for many interesting and intense games ranging from the

Offspring Fling Released

Posted on May 14, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

I have long hoped that, by the time I successful reproduce, it would be socially acceptable to throw your children about like footballs. This would mostly be for serious reasons, like solving puzzles ( like the New York Times Crossword puzzle), but it would also be great fun for parent and child alike. Alas, our social mores about offspring flinging are unlikely to change in such a short period of time. Until society advances to accommodate my wishes, Offspring Fling, an aptly titled indie game just released on Steam on Mother’s Day, will have to scratch that itch. You can

CD Projekt Red Hiring For an “RPG in a brand new setting”

Posted on May 11, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

A quick glance by CD Project Red’s website reveals that they are hiring people for two RPGs. One is listed as an “RPG in a dark fantasy world” while the other is an “RPG in a brand new setting.” The first has a sword icon while the second has a lovely little handgun as the icon.  Does this mean that CD Projekt will make a modern day RPG akin to Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines or Alpha Protocol? We’re betting “yes.” You can see the full list of open positions here, but you will probably have to move to Poland in

This week they’ve released some screenshots depicting the other side of the coin: the Wehrmacht. If you feel the need to put the hurt on some Bolsheviks, then you can pick this game up on the 25th. In the meantime, you can see some of Germany’s finest in action after the jump.

Alan Wake Doubles Down on Steam

Posted on May 8, 2012 by Andrew Minott

Survival thriller Alan Wake is currently on Steam’s Midweek Madness deal, priced at $14.99 from its normal $29.99. This includes the game, which is quite good, and a bonus soundtrack, which ranges from moody background music to cheesy hair metal that will make you feel guilty about how many times you’ve listened to it. What? I’m not listening to it now. Promise. Also, May 22 was confirmed as the release date for Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, the stand-alone DLC game that, while not a true sequel, exists to “broaden and expand the universe” of the series. Like the original XBLA
