Twitter Becomes #38job Fair For 38 Studios/BHG

Posted on May 24, 2012 by Andrew Minott

In the wake of the announcement of the closing of Kingdoms of Amalur developers 38 Studios and Big Huge Games, a large number of gaming  professionals took to Twitter to post notices of job openings in the industry under the hashtag #38jobs. Companies such as Epic Games, Microsoft, Bethesda/Zenimax, Insomniac, Blizzard (with a reported 110 openings), and dozens more responded in merely a few hours, encouraging those affected by the layoffs to send in their applications. Unfortunately, as the hashtag became more popular, Twitter spambots decided to descend upon the proceedings, resulting in a very poor noise-to-signal ratio.

Originally posted as a rumor, according to various sources, 38 Studios last paid their employees on April 30th and internally announced a companywide layoff effective immediately. Former employees and their families’ medical insurance also have run dry, ending Thursday night at midnight.

Command & Conquer Alliances Retreats From Beta, Open To All

Posted on May 24, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

The next entry in the venerable Command & Conquer Franchise, the free to play Tiberium Alliance is now available for all to play. The game had a rather extensive closed beta which ran from December of last year all the way until this month! Alliance puts you in the role of either a GDI or NOD commander during the Tiberium with the focus on building bases. You’ll have to place structures, manage incoming Tiberium crystals and power plants. The game certainly puts more emphasis on the base build and resource management that can sometimes fade into the background when playing

New Panzer Corps DLC Released

Posted on May 23, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Slitherine and Matrix Games have just announced the release of the Panzer Corps Grand Campaign ’45 East DLC. This is the seventh DLC for Panzer Corps, the turn based strategy game by The Lordz Games Studio. As the name suggests, this DLC campaign focuses on the final months of the war from the German perspective. Things aren’t looking too good for the Wehrmacht as most of the maps take place in (then) German territories like Königsberg, Breslau, and Berlin. If you are unfamiliar with Panzer Corps, it is an excellent Panzer General clone. The vanilla campaign is fairly epic, but

Posted on May 22, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Gamersgate is launching VOID, a new ad-supported service, on the 28th of this month. VOID will offer people the chance to play free PC games at the cost of having to sit through a commercial every once in a while. Hopefully, the advertising is more palatable than the insufferable McDonalds ads I had to sit through between levels when playing a free copy of Far Cry a few years back. We don’t have a list of which PC Games will be available via VOID just yet, but we’ll keep you informed.

Panzers assemble for latest Ironfront Trailer

Posted on May 22, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Deep Silver has just released a new trailer for X1 Software/AWAR’s upcoming tactical shooter Iron Front- Liberation 1944. The new trailer focuses on the might of German panzertruppen. Unfortunately, the trailer doesn’t include any footage of tank battles, which I suppose makes it softcore tank porn. Still, there are some impressive looking tanks rolling about. Read on for the trailer.

PAYDAY: The Heist and Left 4 Dead Collaboration Announced

Posted on May 21, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Overkill Software’s PAYDAY: The Heist has long been compared to Valve’s Left 4 Dead. PAYDAY is basically L4D where the protagonists are a bunch of criminals rather than survivors, and the zombies have been replaced by policemen. The distinctions between the two may blend even further after the announcement of a “co-operative” initiative between PAYDAY and Left 4 Dead. Read on for the official announcement from Ulf Andersson, Overkill’s Game Director.
