CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk RPG Announced

Posted on May 30, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

CD Projekt RED announced that it is developing a new game based on Mike Pondsmith’s venerable Cyberpunk 2020 RPG (originally known as Cyberpunk 2013 when it was first released in the late 1980s). As is typical of this sort of thing, Cyberpunk is set in a future dystopia where the United States is a borderline police state run by ruthless, nearly omnipotent corporations (the rest of the world isn’t doing too hot either).
Speaking at CD Projekt’s Summer Conference, co-founder Marcin Iwinski promised that the RPG will follow in the Witcher series’ footsteps. It’ll be non-linear, morally ambiguous, and “mature.” Unlike the Witcher series, the upcoming cyberpunk game will allow players to create unique characters with different classes. Presumably this means that you will be able to hack and sleep your way through the game or, alternatively, spend your time tasering protestors on behalf of a company using homeless people in their human-animal hybrid experiments.

So far we don’t know what platforms it will be released on (given CD Projekt’s history, it’s a good bet that it’ll be released for the PC) or when it will see the light of day. We’ll keep you posted.

Crusader Kings 2: Sword of Islam DLC Announced

Posted on May 30, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Paradox Interactive has just announced the Sword of Islam DLC for Crusader Kings 2. The main selling point of this DLC is that, for the first time in the history of the series, you’ll be able to play an Islamic dynasty. Finally, you can experience building up a powerful dynasty (only to see it crushed by the Mongols) from an Islamic perspective. Paradox hasn’t released many details about how the Muslims will play differently than European Christians, but the latest developer diary promises “lots of specific new mechanics for the Muslims, creating a whole new experience for the player, where laws, marriage, holdings, traits, titles and more work entirely different.”

This DLC will come out alongside the 1.06 patch for the game which adds new features like “ an expansion of the map into Mali-Songhay, differentiation on strong and weak claims, new plot,” and a more in-depth combat system. You can watch a trailer for the Sword of Islam DLC after the jump.Read More

Warlock: Master of the Arcane Giveaway

Posted on May 30, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

The sinister cabal that pulls my strings like a puppet has told me that the time has come to initiate Operation Warlock Wednesday. To celebrate this auspicious occasion, we’re giving away copies of Warlock: Master of the Arcane. If you are unfamiliar with Warlock, it’s a turn based strategy game set in the Majesty universe. Our benefactors want you to think of it in terms of Civ 5 with werewolves, giant rats, and sorcery. In truth, it’s a buffet of dark knowledge that corrupts all who partake.

Never mind, I was thinking of something else. Warlock pretty much is Civilization with mythical bestiary and magical powers. Also, it was donated to us by Paradox Interactive, rather than the Illuminati.

As per our M.O., You will find Steam keys for the game hidden in our articles, Twitter, Steam group, or Facebook page.

We also have two copies of Confrontation, a tactical RPG based on the miniature skirmish game of the same name.

Red Orchestra 2 GOTY Edition Update Released

Posted on May 25, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

The Game of the Year Edition of Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad has just been released on Steam. As we reported previously, this free update includes numerous tweaks, in addition to a new map and two new gameplay modes. The new “Action” and “Classic” modes sound promising, because Red Orchestra 2’s vanilla gameplay falls somewhere in between fast paced shooters like the Call of Duty series and slower, more tactical shooters like the Arma series or the original Red Orchestra.

To commemorate this update, Red Orchestra 2 is free to play this weekend. Additionally, it is 75% off on Steam until Monday, which means that, if you fall in love with the game over the weekend, you can pick it up for $10. You can read its ginormous Change Log here. Read on for trailer.Read More

New Panzer Corps DLC Released

Posted on May 23, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Slitherine and Matrix Games have just announced the release of the Panzer Corps Grand Campaign ’45 East DLC. This is the seventh DLC for Panzer Corps, the turn based strategy game by The Lordz Games Studio.

As the name suggests, this DLC campaign focuses on the final months of the war from the German perspective. Things aren’t looking too good for the Wehrmacht as most of the maps take place in (then) German territories like Königsberg, Breslau, and Berlin.

If you are unfamiliar with Panzer Corps, it is an excellent Panzer General clone. The vanilla campaign is fairly epic, but the DLC campaigns upped the ante with gigantic maps and more varied objectives than “kill everybody and take their hexes.” If this sounds interesting to you, then try out the demo here. Read on for more information about the DLC and an unrelated music video featuring scenes from a Stalin era Soviet film about the battle for Berlin.

Magicka Collection Giveaway

Posted on May 23, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

The news about the Dead Island Game of the year Edition made me nostalgic for countless cooperative games from the halcyon days of 2011. Well, we don’t have copies of Dead island to give out, but we do still have some keys for Magicka, an excellent cooperative game where you can “accidentally” kill the other players. You will find Steam keys for the Magicka collection hidden in our articles, Twitter, Steam group, or Facebook page.

We’d like to thank Paradox Interactive for the free keys.

Gamersgate’s Ad-Supported Free Gaming Service Launches Soon

Posted on May 22, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Gamersgate is launching VOID, a new ad-supported service, on the 28th of this month. VOID will offer people the chance to play free PC games at the cost of having to sit through a commercial every once in a while. Hopefully, the advertising is more palatable than the insufferable McDonalds ads I had to sit through between levels when playing a free copy of Far Cry a few years back.

We don’t have a list of which PC Games will be available via VOID just yet, but we’ll keep you informed.

Panzers assemble for latest Ironfront Trailer

Posted on May 22, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Deep Silver has just released a new trailer for X1 Software/AWAR’s upcoming tactical shooter Iron Front- Liberation 1944. The new trailer focuses on the might of German panzertruppen. Unfortunately, the trailer doesn’t include any footage of tank battles, which I suppose makes it softcore tank porn. Still, there are some impressive looking tanks rolling about. Read on for the trailer.Read More
