Humble Tom Clancy Bundle 2 Sneaks Into View

Posted on January 7, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

The Division

Humble Bundle’s latest tiered selection of games once again selects titles from series bearing the name of late author Tom Clancy. Whether you are going to be planning missions for Team Rainbow or sneaking down corridors as Sam Fisher  there are a number of games available at a few price points.

Interestingly the “beta the average” tier also includes beta access to Tom Clancy’s Division on PC later this year.

Here’s the full list of available of titles:

$1 or more

  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six (1998)
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six 3 (2003)
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas (2006)
  • Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (2005)
  • Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon (2001)

Beat The Average

  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (2008)
  • Tom Clancy’s The Division beta access (Unreleased)
  • Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction (2010)
  • Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell (2002)

$10 Or More

  • Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Black List (2013)
  • Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Solder (2012)

Quite a lot of entertainment to be had for $10 if you don’t mind the slightly right wing militaristic agenda that Clancy’s novels, and so some extent games drove home. Personally I was a huge fan of the first Rainbow Six – on release it was quite innovative with its planning phases and A.I.

It should be noted that all of these games require U-Play.

Cooler Master unveils new modular case

Posted on January 7, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

Cooler Master has always led the way in case design for avid PC gamers, but now it seems they are upping their game in to the enthusiast world with a fully modular case. As someone who themselves uses a CM trooper and loves it, this can not come as better news. Cooler Master has long been my favorite manufacturer of cases and now the MasterAir Maker 8 and 5 show that they are as dedicated to their craft as I am to gaming.

The new case called the MasterAir Maker 5 incudes four USB ports, one of which is USB 3.0 Type-C, a button to activate the fan LED lights, and a button to control the fan speeds. Three fans come included with the case, two x 140mm for the front and one 140mm for the back. Top and Front pannels are detachable with magnets rather than brackets, and can be upgraded with sound baffling to dampen fan noise.

Also announced was the MasterAir Maker 8, which will be its first cooler to use its new 3D Vapor Chamber technology. The new tech combines a vapor chamber and heat pipe, instead of a typical fan radiator assembly. Cooler Master says that it will improve efficiency by up to 19%. Both of the cases are extremely pretty and no doubt will not be cheap but one of the best investments I ever made my was my CM Storm Trooper, and i would not hesitate to spend that kind of money again when building a new machine.

Psychonauts 2 reaches funding goal

Posted on January 7, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

Well it was bound to happen, Psychonauts 2 has successfully raised the over 3 million dollars it requested from its fans on new fundraising site Fig.com

[youtube id=i7i2yfqp8pc]

Fig is interesting in that its more of a micro investment site than a true crowd funder, yes still in this case the campaign is split almost 50/50 between conventional “reward” backers, at $1.613 million, and investors, at $1.698 million. It seems many of the donators either did not understand how fig works, or simply love Psychonauts 2 so much they just wanted to give it their money with no real want of anything but the game in return. Personally im just excited to see another game with the the Psychonauts title on it.

Palmer Luckey insists “we are not making money on Rift”

Posted on January 7, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

Oculus

So the Occulus Rift sold out at 600$. A price point that I belived would make it unobtainable for most average consumers. Way too much for me (I had budgeted for 450$), and 100$ more even than most industry estimates. Much more than what we heard in 2014 which was 200$-400$ and while this was in a European publication, its still fairly safe to say even in Euros that price does not match. Luckey tweeted “To reiterate, we are not making money on Rift hardware. High end VR is expensive, but Rift is obscenely cheap for what it is.”

rift price

The hole only goes farther down from there. Luckey defended the higher European prices as the result of being required to include various taxes that aren’t part of US pricing. “In fact, some countries are getting a slightly better deal than the US, all things considered—remember, we have per state sales tax,” he tweeted.tweeting at totalbiscut, he added, “European cost is because we are required to include taxes. We are not unfairly inflating the price like many consoles.”

Look I get it, this is the first VR headset, you need recoup hundreds if not thousands of hours of research and development, millions in sunk product costs and staff costs, and of course that Facebook investment. In and interview with Polygon Luckey also said that the Facebook buy out did not help with price at all in fact it may have made it worse. “What came out of that were the prototypes that became Crescent Bay [a prototype for the retail version of the hardware], and when we compared what we had to what we were making internally it was such a huge difference,” he said. “It was hard to look at what we had made before and say yeah, this is consumer ready, this is what everyone is going to want… We decided, in the end, to optimize quality over cost.”

The headset will cost 600USD$ and ship im March, the first batch of pre-orders is already sold out, and a second will ship later on. For my money, this is an expensive hack like a wraparound 4K monitor, and untill its price becomes viable I wont be buying one.

The second series of Animal Crossing amiibo cards will be released in North America on January 22nd but the third series are almost out in Japan. Before we get our hands on series 2 the third set of 100 cards will be available in Japan. One week before to be exact.

While I’m still working to collect all 100 from the first series, I thought I’d share a few images of the second and third series of cards. These are the Japanese cards from the Nintendo of Japan website.

Enjoy.

Petite Novel Series – Harvest December | Review

Posted on January 7, 2016 by Jason Nason

For a number of reasons this review has been challenging and for those same reasons this review will actually have to be a two-part review. The first part of the review is based on the software itself while the second part based on the story.

It’s an odd way to do the review, but hear me out.

Petit Novel series – Harvest December is a collection of 13 stories set in the small, snowy town of Tagami. Follow Masaki Konno, a teenager prone to falling into sticky situations through his last year of high school. Each month is a new story that connects and leads up to the final installment, “Perfect December”. Sometimes heartwarming, sometimes violent, sometimes comical, often mystical – for Tagami is known to be a land where a god resides…

Originally released in Japan as a serial, with one story released over the course of a year, this is the whole series in one shot. The “game” retails for $11.99 in North America and each story was ¥200 a piece. When you think about it we got a better deal on this side of the Pacific.
