Latest NPD Numbers: Games & Hardware Sales Down 32%

Posted on May 10, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

The latest sales numbers for the month of April have been released for the United States thanks to the NPD numbers. Cutting through all of the data it is apparent that both games and hardware sales have stayed slow in 2012. In a year where the PS Vita had very slow traction in Japan and major games like Street Fighter X Tekken failed to perform is there still a silver lining?Read More

Keep The Flashlight Close, It’s Dark

Posted on May 10, 2012 by Andrew Minott

Kaypso Media has announced DARK, a techo-style vampire stealth/action game, coming in early 2013 for PC and Xbox 360. DARK puts players in the role of a vampire “out to discover the secrets of the mysterious global GeoForge Corporation.” I bet they’re nefarious. The game will include RPG elements, allowing you to customize your character and attack the challenges of the game as you see fit.

Check out the jump to get more information and some early screenshots!

Dishonored Release Date Set

Posted on May 10, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Bethesda Softworks has just announced a release date for Arkane Studios’ upcoming title Dishonored. Inhabitants of North America can pick up this up on October 9, 2012. Unfortunately, those souls who chose to be born outside of North America will have to wait until October 12th, 2012.

If you aren’t familiar with Dishonored, it’s a first person game set in a steam punk world. You’ll play Corvo, the former bodyguard of a dead Empress. Framed for her death, you are on the lam and assassinating everyone who could have possibly been involved. This might not clear your name, but at least it should be cathartic. Like Arkane’s Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, Dishonored will feature first person melee action in addition to shooting. Your enemies will have some high tech toys to play with, but you’ll be able to compete with supernatural powers bequeathed to you by questionable benefactors. Personally, I really look forward to being able to possess practically any life form in the game (from rats, fish, and guards included). I don’t care if I had to cut a deal with Cthulhu himself for that power.

You can see the box art after the jump.

Wolfenstein 3D 20th Anniversary Browser Game!

Posted on May 9, 2012 by Jesse Lord

Halt, dog!

I still remember the very first time that I heard those words when I was at a friend’s house.  He wanted to show me this awesome game called Wolfenstein 3D and I had no idea what I was getting into.  There are few games that really mark the beginning of a movement and set the stage for others to come after them, and Wolfenstein 3D is exactly one such game.  So it is with great pleasure that I can report, via an email from one of my delightful contacts over at Bethesda, that there is a browser-based version of the game that you can play, right now!  Bethesda, in celebration of Wolfenstein 3D’s 20th anniversary (I can’t be that old, can I?!) has released the full game, playable in-browser.  Head to this site to get to killing Nazis in no-time flat!

Alan Wake Doubles Down on Steam

Posted on May 8, 2012 by Andrew Minott

Survival thriller Alan Wake is currently on Steam’s Midweek Madness deal, priced at $14.99 from its normal $29.99. This includes the game, which is quite good, and a bonus soundtrack, which ranges from moody background music to cheesy hair metal that will make you feel guilty about how many times you’ve listened to it.

What? I’m not listening to it now. Promise.

Also, May 22 was confirmed as the release date for Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, the stand-alone DLC game that, while not a true sequel, exists to “broaden and expand the universe” of the series. Like the original XBLA realease this is priced at $14.99, but if you pre-order it through Steam you will receive 10% off, with an additional 15% off if you own the original Alan Wake. It’s almost like they planned this.

Sony Press Event – My Day With The Games

Posted on May 8, 2012 by Matthew Regier

I had the opportunity to go spend a day at a Sony press event where they were able to show off a bunch of upcoming games coming out for the Playstation 3 and Vita. Beforehand I only knew of a handful of titles that were going to be there, so when I arrived and found twice the amount of TVs I was expecting I have to admit I was pretty excited, especially for a couple of the titles that I will talk about in a bit. I’m going to discuss my time with the games and my initial opinions on everything that I saw.

There’s plenty to discuss so read on…

World of Tanks has just rolled out its 7.3 update. The major changes are a reshuffling of the Soviet heavy tank tier, and the addition of a new “battle arena” called the South Coast, as well as a new map called the Dragon’s Edge, which is apparently the first World of Tanks map set in Asia. Read on for more screenshots and information about the changes to Soviet Heavy tanks.Read More

Cubixx HD Giveaway

Posted on May 8, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

We didn’t celebrate the anniversary of Sony’s founding yesterday (yesterday’s winners were announced by the way), so we’d like to wish a belated happy birthday to Sony. I have no clue about what you should give a multinational corporation for its birthday. So, we’re just going to focus on giving out some games to you all.

First off, we’ll be giving away copies of Cubixx HD for the PS3. The codes for this PSN game may be found in articles on our site, or on twitter. You can find instructions for redeeming the codes here.

If there is a demand for it, we’ve got more codes for Cubixx HD as well as some PSP games that we could give out. Just let us know in the comments.

Should You Buy The May Hurray Bundle?

Posted on May 7, 2012 by Andrew Minott

Short answer: “yes.” Longer answer: “yes, why haven’t you done that yet?”

Previously reported here at BrokenJoysticks.net, Indie Royale’s May Hurray Bundle is available for the next three days. You should buy it. The price fluctuates as it sells by increasing slightly if someone pays that minimum price and decreasing slightly if someone pays more than the minimum, and as of this writing the minimum is $5.29. I’ll run you through the five games in the bundle, so you can know precisely why you ought to spend a value meal’s worth of income to make your life better.
