Dying Light Is Getting a Stand-Alone PVP Expansion In 2018, Technical Test Sign-Ups Open

Posted on December 7, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Battle Royale games have been front and center this year when it comes to the discussion of online multiplayer titles. Perhaps then it is no surprise that Techland, the developers behind the Dying Light franchise, will be bringing their own unique spin on the genre with the reveal of the stand-alone Dying Light: Bad Blood expansion.

Bad Blood‘s official website promises that Techland’s approach to BR will set itself apart from the competition by incorporating P.V.E elements into a traditionally P.V.P only genre. Not only will players have to fight against each other but also A.I controlled zombies and in some instances powerful boss monsters that could turn the tide of battle. The inclusion of P.V.E elements means that players will be encouraged to form temporary alliances to overcome these challenging foes but they’ll also have to watch their backs. In order to escape from the horrors of Bad Blood players will need to buy their way onto to an evacuation helicopter at the end of a round using collected samples. Since every player purchases their one-way escape ticket separately, alliances are sure to be broken.

A closed technical test will take place during the last few weeks of this month via Valve’s Steam service with more players being invited over time. Additional platforms for Dying Light: Bad Blood are expected to be revealed later on in 2018 and there has been no word if a console release is planned. It is also not known how Dying Light: Bad Blood will be monetized – whether free to play, free to existing Dying Light owners or buy to play.

Expect more news and media from Bad Blood in the coming weeks as the technical test has no embargo or media capture restrictions. If you want to sign-up yourself you can do so here.

Dying Light Dev Scares Up Some Halloween Fun

Posted on October 30, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Dying Light developers Tech Land have released a very spoopy (yes that was intentional) and unexpected Halloween message for their fans. Do they have a trick or a treat in store for fans of their undead franchise? You’ll just have to watch the video below to find out!

Tech Land community manager had this say about the Halloween message:

“If once you’re done partying you still feel like having a bit of a fright this Halloween season, we’ve got the perfect challenge for you”

Originally released late last January Dying Light’s first expansion – titled The Following shifts gameplay less in the direction of melee combat / parkour and more towards Dune Buggies and guns, making Dying Light feel like a completely different game. No release date or pricing for The Following has been announced as of yet – however Season’s Pass holders will be getting it for free.

If you don’t own a copy of Dying Light it’s currently included in the Steam Halloween Sale for $29.99 CDN a discount of 50% from its regular retail price.

Spooky!

Dying Light | Review

Posted on February 8, 2015 by Les Major

Taking the zombie survival genre we’ve come to know and love, then making it into an open world adventure that lies somewhere between Mirror’s Edge and Dead Rising, this is a fantastic title! There’s something familiar but unique in the first person presentation of Dying Light’s parkour style gameplay. As a runner for a group of survivors you’ll venture out into the zombie infested fictional city of Harran. So what makes this such an experience? Read on to find out.

First off, the parkour style gameplay really sets Dying Light aside. Picture it as similar to some of the action you may have experienced in Mirror’s Edge, mixed with a first person Assassin’s Creed style climbing setup. It’s really something to take a running leap off of a stories tall building with the intent to grab a balcony in the distance. The game encourages you to look toward the ledge you want to grab and this is very much how the mechanic works. You do need to press and hold a shoulder button as well, but otherwise you’ll just jump. Focusing on your goal allows the engine to know where you want to go.Read More

A Couple Nights With Dying Light

Posted on January 28, 2015 by Les Major

Just released yesterday, the zombie infested city parkour adventure Dying Light is quite an unique title. The game vaguely feels like a free roam version of Mirror’s Edge with some Dead Rising mixed in. This creates some amazing experiences that can relate to the games quite unbelievable, however accurate, gameplay trailer. There’s nothing quite like running down an alleyway on your way to a mission, then stopping dead when you come to a street full of shambling zombies. What do you do? Take to the roof tops? Climb the nearest bus to avoid their attacks? Or just run head long and dodge your way through the horde? It’s the encouragement of those sorts of instant decisions that make Dying Light so interesting.Read More

Techland Sends Xbox 360 / PS3 Versions of Dying Light To The Grave

Posted on October 28, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

Dying Light developer Techland has announced that they have ceased production on the last generation versions of their upcoming undead slaying action game.  They cited the fact that the PS3 and Xbox 360 couldn’t quite handle advanced features like physics based lighting technologies or displaying up to 200,000 objects on screen at one time as one of the contributing factors for cancelling both versions.

Sad news for those who haven’t jumped into the eight generation of consoles, yours truly included. Dying Light will now ship on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC  on January 27th 2015 and will be published by Warner Bros Interactive. There have been no plans for a Wii-U version of the game either, so if you picked up Nintendo’s latest console and where hoping for some more zombie killing action you’re out of luck.

Check out Techland’s full statement after the jump.Read More

Perhaps one of my most anticipated titles for 2014, yes I’m not like most other people, is Hellraid. From the studio that brought us Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide, comes a dark fantasy twist from Techland with the awesome gameplay that made the Dead Island franchise so popular. For those unfamiliar, you can check out some of the screenshots that have been released. You can also see the first gameplay trailer that was released almost a year ago.

Posted on February 1, 2014 by Joshua Rust

With the end of each month, comes the newest announcement of the next two games that Microsoft will make free for Xbox Live Gold subscribers. Last month, gamers had the chance to pick up Sleeping Dogs for the first half of January and for the second half the Xbox Live arcade title Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. It seems that Microsoft is starting to turn the tide and are starting to release pretty decent titles for their “Games with Gold” program. February is no exception, but what two games will Xbox Live members get for free this month? Continue reading to find out…Read More

New Hellraid Images Are…Grotesque

Posted on May 30, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Techland announced a little over a month ago a new IP called Hellraid. It’s basically Dead Island meets a dark fantasy setting. Hellraid is a first person hack-n-slash game that can be played cooperatively with up to three different friends. You can play as four different classes including a Warrior, Mage, Paladin, & a Rogue – so there are plenty of characters for all different play styles.

If you happened to miss the first gameplay trailer of Hellraid, be sure to check here. Otherwise, continue reading after the jump for some gory new screenshots!Read More

Techland has their hands occupied it seems. With this weeks release of Call Of Juarez: Gunslinger on XBLA, PSN, & PC and the newly announced Hellraid, who would’ve thought that they had another game in the works?

First Gameplay Of Hellraid Emerges

Posted on May 8, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Announced just a little over a week ago was Hellraid, coming from developer of the popular Dead Island franchise, Techland. Hellraid is essentially Dead Island meets Skyrim with four player co-op – which sounds like a win-win to me.  Here is how the game is described on the official website in terms of playable classes:

Play in cooperation in a team of four heroes with different skills and weapon capabilities. Slaughter enemies with swords and axes as a Warrior. Heal and protect your friends with the Paladin’s defensive magic. Burn, freeze and electrocute demons with the Mage’s staff and kill with precision of the Rogue’s crossbow.

Today Techland released a brief gameplay trailer showing off a glimpse of what the combat in Hellraid will be like. Which, the entire combat system was taken from the Dead Island game and implemented into this game. For the trailer keep reading after the jump.Read More

Hellraid Is Dead Island Developer’s New Game, Coming This Year

Posted on April 30, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Dead Island developer Techland has announced it will be launching a new IP later this year titled: Hellraid.  From what I can gather it’s a mix of Dead Island’s combat style mixed up with some might and magic set in a dark universe. With Dead Island: Riptide just being released, it came as a bit of a surprise that Techland would announce another game so soon…but seeing how it’s slated to release on Xbox 360, PS3, & PC this year it shouldn’t be a surprise because it’s obviously been in development for some time.Read More
