New Dishonored Video | The Study of Stealth

Posted on August 23, 2012 by Jesse Lord

Our fantastic friends at Bethesda just sent over a new video for the upcoming supernatural-assassin game Dishonored, and it focuses on stealth as a gameplay tactic.  In prior videos we have seen both a stealthy and a “guns-blazing” walkthrough of a scenario in the game, and the more I’m looking at the stealth aspects I think my first play-through will be done as stealthily as possible with as few kills as possible as well.  This is a distinct departure from my norm, that’s for sure.  But enough about me; check out the video after the jump!Read More

Black Isle Studios Resurrected

Posted on August 22, 2012 by Joshua Rust

My very first true RPG game was Icewind Dale. Followed shortly by Planescape: Torment the Baldur’s Gate franchise. When Black Isle Studios was shut down back in 2003, I truly felt like a part of my heart was ripped out. Thankfully we’ve had these other great RPG developers around to fill in the absence of Black Isle Studios, but I none really captured for me what Black Isle did with their games.

When I read today on CVG, I thought this was truly a hoax. A way premature April Fool’s Day joke. But thankfully it’s not! Black Isle Studios is back from the grave, courtesy of Interplay. Most of us know that when Black Isle shuttered, quite a few of the employees went on to form Obsidian Entertainment (Dungeon Siege 3, Fallout: New Vegas). As of now, none of the original members are headed back to the newly resurrected Black Isle.

The Black Isle website has been somewhat updated, you can check it out: http://www.blackisle.com There have been no announcements on the games that Black Isle will be making, but I’m hoping for either a Dragon Age-ish Baldur’s Gate on consoles, or (of course) Baldur’s Gate III and a new Planescape because that game is a classic! Here’s to the new era of Black Isle Studios!

New GTA V Screens | Leisure

Posted on August 22, 2012 by Jesse Lord

Oh Rockstar, how we love you and your flagship Grand Theft Auto series.  You tease us so, giving us little nibbles of information, and we lap it up, hoping and praying to appease you into giving us just a little bit more.  Just a little bit more.  Well, the theory seems to have worked a bit, since Rockstar have released three more screens at the Grand Theft Auto V website and also on the Rockstar Newswire in a post titled “Leisure.”  So feast your eyes on the awesome:Read More

Legasista | Review

Posted on August 22, 2012 by Les Major

If you’re a fan of NIS games and enjoy action RPG’s like Secret of Mana, this is a game you may enjoy. While it doesn’t feature the vast explorable world like Secret of Mana featured, it does have the random dungeons and intense leveling you’ve come to expect from NIS. That being said, you may want to skip this review if you’re already planning to get the game. I’ll do my best to avoid spoilers but due to the gentle learning curve in the game it’s hard to not somewhat spoil the content of the first five worlds you visit. If you’ve already looked up the games features you’ll know what unlockables I’m referring to already I’m sure. So lets talk about the system Legasista uses first.Read More

Max Payne 3 Gets Noir Filter, Modifiers, New Map in Free DLC Next Week

Posted on August 21, 2012 by Jeff Wade

More DLC for Max Payne 3 is rolling out, like a bad habit that you can’t quit and that won’t cost any of the equally flawed pennies that keep showing up.

There’s no price better than free for the Disorganized Crime DLC pack, that packs in a host of modifiers for the game’s arcade mode like sardines that couldn’t be packed tighter if they were a 90s slang term for cool. Exploding Rounds, aggresive Lone Wolf A.I. and Headshot only modifiers will make a three legged pony show that changes the arcade mode experiance and a brand new noir filter will let you play through the game in a classic black and white filter that matches the game’s noir influences (and this belabored blog post). And there’s just enough room in the tango for the Hoboken Rooftops.

Rumor: Fallout 4 In Development, Set In Boston

Posted on August 21, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

The Fallout series might be taking another venture out to the east coast with the next installment in the revitalized Role-playing franchise. Reportedly the next installment which Bethesda Softworks is hard at work on will transport players to The Commonweath, also known as Boston Massachusetts.

Members of Bethesda’s development staff have apparently been scoping out the MIT campus and the surrounding area, all the while working on the game. The connection to MIT is of particular interest, as IGN points out, because of “The Institute”, a future version of the school that is connected to a conflict involving deadly androids.

No word on whether or not this game will be released on current generation hardware or is set for release on the PlayStation 4 (or Orbis) or the Xbox 360. Given that Bethesda has published 3 RPG titles this generation (Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Skyrim) a Next Gen version is almost a certainty, just remember it took them almost 3 years to release Fallout 3 after Elderscrolls IV went gold in early 2006. Perhaps a late 2014 release? We’ll have to wait and see.

Watch Other People Play DOTA 2 Today

Posted on August 21, 2012 by Seung Lee

Anyone who uses Steam can now download and install a free app for DOTA 2 that allows for spectating other players. How does it work, you may ask? Well, you can watch a match from a player’s perspective, or from a directed view. You can check out any recent or live matches, along with all of the future matches at The International tournament. Is this app mandatory in order to continue playing DOTA 2? Nope, but it’ll be added into the game when it officially releases.

I’m personally not a big fan of DOTA, but I know there’s a lot of people out there who do. If you’re wondering how you can improve your skills, then you may wanna check out a match or two from some pros.

DOTA 2 is set to release sometime this year on Steam, with a free-to-play business model. Check out the game’s official website here.
