Microsoft Acquires Gears of War Rights From Epic Games

Gears of War is unanimously one of the flagship titles for any of Microsoft’s consoles. To date, the franchise combined has sold over twenty-two million copies – grossing in just over $1 Billion dollars. With this acquisition, Microsoft hopes to continue giving the fans even more Gears of War games and merchandise. Currently, there are four Gears of War titles but it’s likely we can expect to see more news on this soon – perhaps E3? We...

Gears Of War Free Now, Via Games with Gold

Microsoft’s Games with Gold campaign keeps chugging along like the little engine that could. This month is no exception as one of the big hitting exclusive games, Gears Of War – released Nov. 7th, 2006, will be free from December 1st through December 15th. When Gears Of War was first announced, it dropped the jaw of many gamers. It spent its fair share of time in the Top 10 leaderboards of Xbox Live gaming activity and rightly so. While...

Founder of Epic Games Tim Sweeney states, “In 20 wonderful years with Epic, Cliff Bleszinski has grown into a true design luminary, and his contributions to the Unreal and Gears series...

Gears of War 3 Contest

We’ve decided to reboot our Gears of War 3 contest. In retrospect, starting such a contest in the first week of our existence was a bad call. Also, the requirements and the mountain of legalese were probably unhelpful. Here is the new setup for the contest. We’ll give away 3 copies of Gears of War 3 once we’ve reached 500 likes on Facebook. After that number has been reached, people will have a few days to enter...

Win a Signed Copy of Gears of War 3

If there is one thing we at Broken Joysticks love besides video games, it’s creativity. Good films, timeless literature, mind boggling abstract paintings, and performance artists covering themselves with live fire ants rarely fails to stimulate our right brains. However, it recently came to our attention that driving Chainsaw Bayonets into the necks of locusts is also stimulating. This realization, which sparked a prairie fire in the staff’s collective unconscious, convinced us to combine the two. Thus,...
