Microsoft Acquires Gears of War Rights From Epic Games

Posted on January 27, 2014 by Joshua Rust

Gears of War is unanimously one of the flagship titles for any of Microsoft’s consoles. To date, the franchise combined has sold over twenty-two million copies – grossing in just over $1 Billion dollars. With this acquisition, Microsoft hopes to continue giving the fans even more Gears of War games and merchandise. Currently, there are four Gears of War titles but it’s likely we can expect to see more news on this soon – perhaps E3? We can only hope…

Black Tusk Studios will take over the development of new Gears titles with the change of rights of ownership. Cliff Bleszinski has confirmed on his blog that he will in no way be any part of this new direction for Gears of War. He does go on to say that:

“I don’t think the franchise could be in better hands. Gears is just as much Rod’s baby as it was mine. He’ll take good care of her.  343 knocked it out of the park with Halo and I think Black Tusk will do a fantastic job with Gears. He also points out that this “puts the nail in the coffin of the question ‘Will Gears ever come to PlayStation?'”

So what do you all think of this new future for the Gears of War franchise?
