Posted on February 8, 2017 by Jason Nason

Nintendo revealed some information today that Miitomo will be down for maintenance tonight. The maintenance work will take place between February 8th at 11:00 p.m. ET until February 9th at 5:00 a.m. ET.

The maintenance is being conducted to prepare for an upcoming big update. After maintenance is completed, the app can be updated to the newest version of Miitomo. During the maintenance period Miitomo won’t be available.

No worries, though. Super Mario Run and Fire Emblem Heroes are still a thing.

IMPRESSIONS: Fire Emblem Heroes

Posted on February 3, 2017 by Jason Nason

Nintendo and Intellgent Systems today released the mobile game Fire Emblem Heroes. This is the third mobile app from Nintendo and the second game to be released by the company.

Fire Emblem Heroes is an original strategy RPG about two warring kingdoms in a bitter clash. As a summoner, players build their army by calling upon popular Fire Emblem heroes from worlds that span the breadth of the series. Players will wage tactical battles streamlined for on-the-go play and level up a mix of new combatants and legendary heroes. Some familiar hero characters will become allies, while others will become enemy generals.

First of all the game is gorgeous. I would expect nothing less from Nintendo and Intelligent Systems but the game has all the polish you would see in a regular console release of any Fire Emblems game.

Pokemon Go Players Have Walked Billions of Kilometers

Posted on December 20, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Pokemon GO is one of the few unique mainstream games that rewards players for going out into the real world and exploring. Whether they’re walking down the block or across their entire city to hatch eggs, Pokemon Trainers the world over have racked up quite the tally – over 9 billion KM have been tallied by trainers the Pokemon Company since its July launch.

If you need a comparison to help you comprehend just how massive 9 billion KM is, here is what the Pokemon GO blog said:

“We are pleased to share that—as of December 7—the Pokémon GO community has collectively walked more than 8.7 billion kilometers. That’s more than 200,000 trips around Earth! Fun fact: A commercial jetliner would take more than 1,000 years to cover the same distance. While covering this distance, Trainers also caught more than 88 billion Pokémon along the way. That’s roughly 533 million Pokémon a day!”

Even with all of this walking, Pokemon GO Players haven’t crossed the entire solar system yet – who knows if Nintendo will make an interstellar announcement once players cross the 287 billion KM mark (the diameter of our solar system).

Alongside their blog post Niantic also included the following animated info-graphic:

Miitomo updated to version 2.1

Posted on December 10, 2016 by Jason Nason

On Thursday morning Nintendo rolled out a minor update to Miitomo, with the update going live at 6:00 AM Eastern time. The update brings the application to version 2.1 and introduces a few new features to the game.

With version 2.1 you can now share what your Sidekick Mii characters think. It’s not just your main Mii who can answer questions anymore and your Sidekick Mii characters can too. To be honest I never really got around to creating a sidekick me, but maybe I should get around to that now. I’ll have to be sure to give them plenty of personality.

Big update to Magic: The Gathering – Puzzle Quest tomorrow

Posted on December 7, 2016 by Jason Nason

The next update for Magic: The Gathering – Puzzle Quest is scheduled to go live tomorrow, and from the post on the developers blog it looks like it’s going to be a big one.

With the game hitting its one year anniversary, this new update will include the addition of cards from the Kaladesh expansion. The Kaladesh expansion adds 184 new cards to work with and now lets you battle with vehicles, massive constructs and harness the plane’s energy to gain the upper hand on your opponents.

This expansion features 4 brand-new mechanics: Energize, Overload, Fabricate and Crew. Energize and Overload go hand in hand. When a card performs Energize, it adds Energy to gems on the board. By itself, Energy doesn’t do anything, but when you match gems that contain Energy, ANY card you control on the battlefield with the Overload keyword will activate and the Energy is then removed from the matched gems.

Fabricate summons supports that grant +1/+1 to the first creature you control, and Crew gives mana to Vehicles when another non-token creature you control enters the battlefield.

More Pokémon coming soon to Pokémon GO

Posted on December 7, 2016 by Jason Nason

There are about to be more catchable Pokémon in Niantic and Nintendo’s mobile game Pokémon GO soon.

The official Pokémon Twitter channel sent out a brief tweet today announcing that “More Pokémon are coming to Pokémon GO!” The tweet went on to tease the date of December 12th for more information.

There is some speculation of what the new Pokémon will be, with the assumption that it will be the second generation Pokémon coming to the game. While that is the most likely assumption, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the new Pokémon from Nintendo’s newest 3DS games Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon might not be in the mix.

It would certainly be a miss not to use this release to cross promote between the two Pokémon games.

Are Skylanders cards on the way out?

Posted on December 5, 2016 by Jason Nason

Less than a year after their release, could Activision be dropping Skylanders Battlecast?

Based on the Skylanders videogame series, Skylanders Battlecast launched in May of this year. The game is a free-to-play mobile card game where players build their ultimate deck of cards, master strategic card combinations and use them in never before seen battles. In addition to the digital cards in the game, physical card packs are also available for purchase in retail stores.

But since the first release of the cards, and a few minor updates to the app, there have been no further releases of cards or any major updates to the game itself.

Pokémon GO updates, Ditto, and local realtime tracker

Posted on November 27, 2016 by Jason Nason

I’ll be honest. After the initial craze for Pokémon GO hit I somewhat fell off the bandwagon. I wasn’t one of those people who spent hours and days walking around seeking the elusive creatures, sucking up tons and tons of data. I’ll admit, after I let a friend without mobile data tether off of my data and I ended up going way over my monthly data, I really scaled back on my usage.

Heck, I’m only level 14.

But I have been keeping tabs on the game and am not one of those who uninstalled the game and wrote it off. I’m sure there’s much more to come.
