Arma 2: Combined Operations Contest Winners Announced

Posted on May 14, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

We brought in a member of Bohemia Interactive to pick the winners from Friday’s competition. Here is what operative “Korneel” had to say:

I loved the effort and the answers. There were 4 which really caught my eye. Therefore, as a very special exception, I am giving you two extra A2:CO codes to distribute.

My picks are:
Athanasios (Literally the only possible flaw in his plan is the fact that Jarmen Kell, due to his age, might not be flexible enough to imitate the look of a human stomach or a padded human sausage ;-))
Fearpoint (The scarce-vodka-supply-rumour works like a charm!)
Sorophx (You thought of all the angles – We’d gladly assign you to this mission)
Ksim3000 (You’ve mastered the political game!)

Good luck and all the best!

So, you four are our winners. Please send me an email at danielshannon@brokenjoysticks.net to claim your prize. I’ve already received emails from Fearpoint and Ksim about other matters, so I’ll recognize their addresses. However, I’d appreciate it if Athanasisos and Sorophx commented in this article to confirm that they’ve emailed me. We don’t want OPFOR stealing your hard earned Arma2 copies.

CD Projekt Red Hiring For an “RPG in a brand new setting”

Posted on May 11, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

A quick glance by CD Project Red’s website reveals that they are hiring people for two RPGs. One is listed as an “RPG in a dark fantasy world” while the other is an “RPG in a brand new setting.” The first has a sword icon while the second has a lovely little handgun as the icon.  Does this mean that CD Projekt will make a modern day RPG akin to Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines or Alpha Protocol? We’re betting “yes.”

You can see the full list of open positions here, but you will probably have to move to Poland in order to work on either of these new projects. Please note, we’re not making any judgements about Poland. It is just a far away, almost mythical land for us.

Posted on May 11, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Last week Deep Silver and X1 Software/AWAR released some Soviet themed screenshots from their upcoming tactical shooter Iron Front – Liberation 1944. This week they’ve released some screenshots depicting the other side of the coin: the Wehrmacht. If you feel the need to put the hurt on some Bolsheviks, then you can pick this game up on the 25th. In the meantime, you can see some of Germany’s finest in action after the jump.

Dishonored Release Date Set

Posted on May 10, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Bethesda Softworks has just announced a release date for Arkane Studios’ upcoming title Dishonored. Inhabitants of North America can pick up this up on October 9, 2012. Unfortunately, those souls who chose to be born outside of North America will have to wait until October 12th, 2012.

If you aren’t familiar with Dishonored, it’s a first person game set in a steam punk world. You’ll play Corvo, the former bodyguard of a dead Empress. Framed for her death, you are on the lam and assassinating everyone who could have possibly been involved. This might not clear your name, but at least it should be cathartic. Like Arkane’s Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, Dishonored will feature first person melee action in addition to shooting. Your enemies will have some high tech toys to play with, but you’ll be able to compete with supernatural powers bequeathed to you by questionable benefactors. Personally, I really look forward to being able to possess practically any life form in the game (from rats, fish, and guards included). I don’t care if I had to cut a deal with Cthulhu himself for that power.

You can see the box art after the jump.

World of Tanks 7.3 Update Deployed

Posted on May 8, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

World of Tanks has just rolled out its 7.3 update. The major changes are a reshuffling of the Soviet heavy tank tier, and the addition of a new “battle arena” called the South Coast, as well as a new map called the Dragon’s Edge, which is apparently the first World of Tanks map set in Asia. Read on for more screenshots and information about the changes to Soviet Heavy tanks.Read More

Cubixx HD Giveaway

Posted on May 8, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

We didn’t celebrate the anniversary of Sony’s founding yesterday (yesterday’s winners were announced by the way), so we’d like to wish a belated happy birthday to Sony. I have no clue about what you should give a multinational corporation for its birthday. So, we’re just going to focus on giving out some games to you all.

First off, we’ll be giving away copies of Cubixx HD for the PS3. The codes for this PSN game may be found in articles on our site, or on twitter. You can find instructions for redeeming the codes here.

If there is a demand for it, we’ve got more codes for Cubixx HD as well as some PSP games that we could give out. Just let us know in the comments.

May Hurray Bundle Giveaway

Posted on May 7, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

We were wondering about what to give away today. The Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation (today known as Sony) was founded on the seventh of May 7th 1946. Over 500 years prior to that auspicious occasion, Joan of Arc took an arrow to the shoulder. Instead of whining about it, Joan continued adventuring. In fact, she patched herself up and got back into the fight that very evening. Her forces would lift the siege of Orléans the following morning. We considered giving out games somewhat related to those events.

However, Broken Joysticks won’t allow the distant past to dictate our actions in the present. Instead of giving out Sony games or Medieval strategy games, we’ll be giving away copies of Indie Royale’s May Hurray bundle! If you’d like a copy of one of these bundles, please post in our comments section. Tell us which of the games included in the bundle interests you the most and why. Winners will be chosen later today and announced in the comments section for this post.

Iron Front – Liberation 1944 Screens Released

Posted on May 4, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Deep Silver and X1 Software/AWAR just released new screenshots from their upcoming tactical shooter Iron Front – Liberation 1944. The pictures showcase the Red Army, which is appropriate for a game set during the great Soviet summer offensive of 1944. Iron Front comes out on the 25th of this month, in the meantime you can check out the new screens after the jump.

If you get a sense of Déjà vu while viewing the wave of screenshots below, it might have something to do with the fact that Iron Front uses the same engine as ARMA 2.

Mount & Blade Collection Giveaway

Posted on May 4, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

A little bird told me that Broken Joysticks would publish something Mount & Blade related soon. That sounds like a good excuse to give out copies of the Mount and Blade collection. Unfortunately, this collection doesn’t include the Napoleonic Wars DLC, but it does have Mount & Blade, Mount and Blade: Warband, and Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword. We will hide three codes for the collection in our articles, twitter account, or our steam group. Read on for a trailer and details on how to activate the games via steam.

Indie Royale’s May Hurray Bundle Released

Posted on May 3, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Indie Royale’s latest game bundle is now available. The five games included in this $5 USD bundle are Dungeon Defenders, Containment: The Zombie Puzzler, Data Jammer: FastForward, Brainpipe- A plunge to Unhumanity, and Weird World: Return to Infinite Space. In my humble opinion, Dungeon Defenders, a RPG/Tower Defense hybrid, is worth $5 by itself. The others are just icing on the cake.

Additionally, for $7 USD you’ll also receive Starscream/Infinity Shred’s album “Future, Toward the Edge of Tomorrow.”  If you are into that sort of thing.

THE ELDER SCROLLS ONLINE Announced

Posted on May 3, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Perhaps, it was inevitable…. Bethesda has just announced The Elder Scrolls Online. There wasn’t much information about the game in their press releases (the June issue of Game Informer will reveal more). So far all we know is that ZeniMax Online Studios is developing it for PC and Mac. Also, the game director has some ambitious plans for the game.

“We have been working hard to create an online world in which players will be able to experience the epic Elder Scrolls universe with their friends, something fans have long said they wanted,” said Matt Firor, game director of The Elder Scrolls Online. “It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years. The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise.”

Seems like Mr. Firor plans to shoot for the moon. Will he wind up like Icarus, plunging from the heavens as a result of his hubris? Or, will he be responsible for the best MMO ever made? What are your thoughts?
