Metal Gear Solid Rising Cuts Down the Competition

Posted on June 1, 2012 by Eric Bastelak

So early this morning at Konami’s pre E3 show, we received a seak peak of something very beautiful. A new trailer and update of Metal Gear Rising: Revengence. This trailer has shown off the cut physics which show something very similar to what we saw when the game was first announced. MGS Rising, looks amazing I can’t wait to get my hands on the game unfortunatley it won’t be until “Early 2013” now, whenever that is.Read More

Posted on May 30, 2012 by Eric Bastelak

Winter has come my friends. Game of Thrones, an RPG set in George R.R. Martin’s phenomenal universe, is here. I made it clear when I first discovered this game that I’m a huge fan of The Song of Ice and Fire, I adore the universe and was excited to explore it. With its ever growing popularity, thanks to the amazing HBO series, the stage has been set for Game of Thrones. However, one question still looms, can it live up to the hype?Read More

Max Payne 3 | Review

Posted on May 23, 2012 by Eric Bastelak

It has been nine long years since we last left the Max Payne series, the thrilling cinematic franchise with a dark and twisting story. Max Payne invented one of the most imitated and never again perfected shooter mechanics, bullet time. When other series did it, it just didn’t feel right. Well move over Generic shooter two hundred and twenty billion, daddy is home and he’s going to show you what fun and challenge mean again.Read More

New Rainbow Moon Screenshots!

Posted on May 18, 2012 by Eric Bastelak

So there is this new turn based RPG coming exclusivly to the PSN Rainbow Moon, the game looks akin to Final Fantasy Tactics. So this could be very interesting, a turn based RPG with an epic story and world for me to discover?

Who knows promising games have broken my heart before, so for the mean time I’m keeping this one at arms length. Though the RPG fanatic can’t resist holding out some hope. Rainbow Moon releases in Summer of 2012. So should get to go into agonising detail on my feelings for the game when it releases. Check out a choice screenshot (See what I mean this shows promise^-^).Read More

Winter is Coming-The Game of Thrones RPG

Posted on May 11, 2012 by Eric Bastelak

So I’ve been a fan of Song of Ice and Fire for a long time. I completed the first book because someone wanted me to be in their pen and paper role playing game. Oh man did I fall in love with the universe, unfortunately the game fell through and I’ve had a hard time tracking down copies of the remaining books. Then HBO happened,Read More

Wing Commander Retrospective

Posted on April 30, 2012 by Eric Bastelak

What can you say about the Wing Commander franchise? Besides the fact that it was one of the first space fighter simulation games ever, oh and in the sea of garbage that was FMV (full motion video) era of gaming, Wing Commander stood out. This was a diamond found amongst all the sewage. High billing actors like Mark Hamill and Malcom Mcdowell. I first heard about Wing Commander from a unique source. A fantastic V-loger Spoony, on his website The Spoony Experiment being a long time WC fan Spoony did a hilarious review of the painfully bad Wing Commander movie. During this review Spoony consistently talked about what made the Wind Commander games so amazing. After seeing this I took a trip over to GOG.com where I purchased Wing Commanders 1-4. After playing through all of them I was blown away. I wanted more but since the last true entry in the series WC4 there was no more to be had.Read More

Yesterday | Review

Posted on April 5, 2012 by Eric Bastelak

If Tim Schaffer’s Kickstarter campaign wasn’t proof enough that the point and click adventure genre is not dead, then we have a new contender. Yesterday was developed by Pendulo Studios, a company who clearly still believes in and loves the point and click genre. Yesterday will take you on a wild journey; you will discover lost secrets hidden for centuries.  Yesterday is a game for fans of point and click adventures with a strong narrative, if story is not your thing you have come to the wrong game (and possibly the wrong writer).Read More

Nuclear Dawn: A War Worth Fighting

Posted on April 1, 2012 by Eric Bastelak

When you work 40 hours a week to pay the bills you have very little money to invest in entertainment. With the rising cost of video games every penny saved from a poor purchase can go towards a memorable or unique experience that you will truly enjoy. Nuclear Dawn is both, it uniquely blends real time strategy game play with tactical class based first person shooting.

Many readers may not know this but Broken Joysticks is a labor of love. The other writers and I want to highlight the games we think are worth your money. We work to pay our bills and Broken Joysticks is what we do, because it’s something we believe in, writing about a medium we love that is like no other. When a friend of mine gave me a 3 day pass to Nuclear Dawn I figured what the heck I’ll give it a shot. After making use of the pass Nuclear Dawn quickly became worth my money. Every gamer knows sometimes you have to pick and choose your titles we all have to live within our means. I’m writing this to tell you that if you’re on the fence about Nuclear Dawn, hell if you’ve never ever heard of it. This game is worth your money.Read More

Preview: Naval War Arctic Circle

Posted on March 30, 2012 by Eric Bastelak

Naval War: Arctic Circle is a real time strategy game for a strategy gamer. There is no hand holding here, one look at the game in action can show you that. In my time with the game I controlled a fleet of ships each able to launch its own variety of fighter jets and helicopters. I could also launch aircraft from a near by airfield that backed onto the water. I was able to customize what weapons my aircraft would attack with; targeting frigates, submarines, torpedoes or missiles.

Naval War will have you launching aircraft for various tasks, be that scouting for enemy submarines engaging other aircraft, supporting a ship battle with strafing runs against an opposing warship. Naval War will require you to think on your feet, making sure aircraft are refueled and, reloaded with fresh ammunition. Making sure your ships are blockading the enemy preventing them from reaching vital air fields. Your strategic militant mind must be up to task lest you fail and lose control of the now ever important Arctic Circle.Read More
