Shantae Kickstarted Project to be Released on PS Vita

Posted on September 9, 2013 by Jason Nason

The folks at WayForward have announced today on their Kickstarter page that with Sony’s announcment of the newest model of PS VITA and PS VITA that the game they are fundraising for will also be released on Sony’s portable.

The release won’t be added as a stretch goal but will be included in the package as an option if the company makes their $400,000 fundraising goal.

“Hey folks, a lot of you have been asking for Half-Genie Hero on VITA. As it happens, the landscape of gaming has shifted somewhat today with Sony’s VITA TV announcement. In response, we’ve decided to port wfEngine to Vita as part of our “work-for-hire” business. What does this mean for Half-Genie Hero? Well, it means that we can include both VITA and VITA TV as part of our $400K funding goal. It’s not a Stretch Goal, just part of the package.”

Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate | Review

Posted on September 9, 2013 by Jason Fayta

Version tested: PlayStation 3

Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate (hereafter Ultimate) is an expanded edition of Dead or Alive 5, arriving just under a year from its predecessor’s release. New stages and characters, along with new modes and system tweaks, define the “ultimate” package, but the simultaneous release of Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate: Core Fighters, a free-to-play version of Ultimate, may be the version that gets newcomers into the series.Read More

Xbox Music Streaming Comes To Non-Win8 Users

Posted on September 9, 2013 by Les Major

The big news is that Xbox Music has come to iOS and Android in the form of an app today, but I’m more excited for being able to use it on a PC that isn’t running Windows 8. I’ll still never give up my first love, the pay but so good service Rara.com which when I first signed up was like a buck per month to try for like the first three months then only five thereafter.

It took me a bit to find out exactly where Xbox Music is located but the US site pointed me to Music.Xbox.com and currently I’m grooving away to some tunes. Originally the service was quoted as being unlimitedly free for the first six months to stream, but then with limited to ten hours per month after that. With the service going “free” for PC I don’t know if that will change, but the US site still states that as a rule.Read More

Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory | Review

Posted on September 8, 2013 by Les Major

Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory is the third in the series but was story friendly enough for me to be able to dive in and enjoy the game, even with it being my first adventure in this universe. The game feels like a hybrid between a visual novel and a JRPG. Not in the sense that you’re trying to date anyone, but more so the fact that there is just so much character interaction involved in the game; you do feel like you’re watching a visual novel, rather than playing a typical JRPG.Read More

Second Dimension: The Warrior’s Code Interview

Posted on September 6, 2013 by Broken Joysticks

The fighting game community (FGC) has grown from holding local events to smaller venues to occupying ballrooms at four-star establishments with talent from all across the globe attending. Major sponsors such as Capcom, Namco Bandai, and others are responsible for the development of some of the world’s most famous franchises in gaming, and are showcased at a central tournament featuring the top fighting talent from across the world. With major prize pools, fighting games are now reaching a platform that can be compared to traditional eSports.

Each week, I’ll be posting interviews I’ve had the pleasure of conducting with members of the fighting game community. The interviews will touch upon their history in the FGC, where they got their start, and what they’d like to see from video games in general.

This week’s guest is one of the most recognizable names in the NetherRealm game community, Emmanuel Brito aka EMP CDjr.Read More

Nintendo announced a price drop of three of their most popular Wii games today. The games have all surpassed the million mark in unit sales and have been reduced in price.

The three Wii games which are now available for a lower price are Super Mario Galaxy 2, New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Wii Sports Resort. The suggested retail price of these three games has dropped to $29.99 each, which comes into effect today.

“The new price represents one of the many steps Nintendo is taking to provide shoppers with the best value and variety across all its systems through the end of 2013,” Nintendo stated in a release today. With that came a reminder that the games can also be played on the Wii U home console, which can play the entire library of Wii games.

Nintendo unveiled a special limited edition of the Nintendo 3DS XL today among the several Pokémon related releases. The limited-edition Nintendo 3DS systems come in both blue or red and feature the Legendary Pokémon Xerneas and Yveltal.

The bundle will be released on September 27th!

With the bundle coming out a few weeks prior to the release of the game itself it’s surprising that the special edition 3DS XL doesn’t include a copy of the game. The full retail copies of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will be released both in stores and on the eShop on October 12th.

Mega Evolutions Coming To Pokémon X and Y

Posted on September 4, 2013 by Les Major

Much of this could be considered to be spoilers if you’re looking to learn about all this content in game. However, if you are holding out till the October 12th release date, you’ve probably run screaming from any website proclaiming news of Mega Evolutions so far anyway.

Speculation of a MewThree Pokémon ran rampant earlier this year and recently was revealed to be a new concept in the game series. It seems when a Pokémon reaches level 100 now they can Mega Evolve in battle into a new form. That’s not all though, these evolutions only take place in battle and when the Pokémon in question is holding their specific mega stone. After battle, Pokémon revert back to their regular form.

Announced today, the original three starter Pokémon from Generation one are even getting Mega Evolutions! Check out the video after the break for the trailer showing off Venusaur, Blastoise, and Charizard’s mega evolutions. As you’ll see in the video too, it looks like gamers may be getting a second starter Pokémon like choice in X and Y.Read More

Xbox One Launches November 22nd 2013

Posted on September 4, 2013 by Les Major

Microsoft announced today that their next-gen console will be released on November 22nd. The system, which it seems is unable to be pre-ordered anywhere anymore, retails for $500. This launch includes the initial launch markets of Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, UK, and USA. More markets will follow in 2014.

The Xbox 360 was released in the USA and Canada back in 2005, also on November 22nd. With day one exclusives like Dead Rising 3, a new Killer Instinct, and Ryse: Son of Rome, Microsofts latest system is looking very promising now that many DRM concerns that fans were against have been removed. The console does still come with Kinect but it seems the add on is no longer required.

It’s been a rough couple months for Xbox, but they have listened to their fans and most importantly have shown some very promising titles on the way.

Pokémon Bank Launches On Dec 25th In Japan

Posted on September 4, 2013 by Les Major

Arriving on December 25th in Japan for an aproximately $5 USD annual fee, gamers will be able to store their Pokémon Black and White (1 and 2 it seems) as well as X and Y to a cloud based service. This is useful for fans who want to use their Black and White Pokémon to X and Y via a feature called “Poké Transporter.”

The Pokémon Bank will allow gamers to store their collection of Pokémon to a cloud with 100 boxes, which totals up to 3000 Pokémon in total. Potentially this will mean you’ll be able to continue moving your Pokémon forward in even further future generations as well, or even possibly use them for other things.

Quite exciting news and it will be interesting to see how this develops.

Magicians And Looters Is An Xbox Indie Gem

Posted on September 3, 2013 by Les Major

I’m usually always poking around at various indie games on the Xbox Live Marketplace. While I really should write up about a lot more of my favourites, there’s definitely one recent addition that Metroidvania fans should check out.

The demo takes place after the games intro which involves the three main characters, two siblings and a fellow classmate from a magic class. In the demo, you’re telewarped into a forest setting which quickly reminded me of the classic game Jill Of The Jungle, at least from what I remember of it. Even bringing in memories of exploring Shadow Complex, instead with a fantasy setting. No big story spoilers, but if this does sound fun you may just wanna go get the demo and try it out yourself. Otherwise, read on!Read More
