Skullgirls | Review

Posted on May 24, 2012 by Matthew Regier

Punch, kick, it’s all in the input. That’s what could be said of the Reverge Games’ explosive new fighter, Skullgirls. On the surface this Autumn Games’ published title will look like any other all-female cast fighting game in the same spirit as Arcana Heart [Atlus], but Skullgirls offers more to the genre. As Reverge Labs is head by Mike “Mike Z” Zaimont, tournament champ and artist Alex “o_8” Ahad Skullgirl’s is truly something unique within a sea of sameness.

Skullgirls from day one was designed to be a tournament fighter, yet at the same time remaining approachable and engaging for the casual player, and engaging it is. Each of the game’s initial 8 characters are all hand drawn, with over one-thousand frames per character and enhanced by real-time lighting. This make for a very visually stunning in experience in this fast paced tourney fighter.

Posted on May 24, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Roadhouse Interactive and A.C.R.O.N.Y.M have released several unit bios for their upcoming free to play browser based tactical strategy game MechWarrior Tactics. The game places two players against each other in turn based battles. To be successful commanders must place units tactfully and manage their resources carefully.

These brand new bios give us a brief description of the mechs alongside various descriptions. They range from light weight “hit and run” style machines to heavy hitters armored with futuristic plasma weapons and shoulder cannons. It’s mass destruction for the whole family!

You can currently register for Mech Warrior Tactics at their website. The game takes place during the year 3025, which puts it several years behind almost every established MechWarrior game including the first titles!

The series has seen a bit of a resurgence lately with both MechWarrior Online and Tactics being free to play titles.

Metro Last Light’s Short Film Lets Us Watch The Bombs Drop

Posted on May 24, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Metro Last Light, the follow up to post apocalyptic first person shooter Metro 2033, might have been delayed until 2013 but that doesn’t mean the game shouldn’t come out swinging during the pre-e3 madness. In the latest live action short, released to promote the game, we follow average citizens of Moscow as the bombs begin to fall. As you would expect the world is full of panic as nuclear death quickly approaches!

Does this trailer have army dudes screaming at the citizens while brannishing an AK47? Yup, seems like an average day in Russia to me (kidding of course).

Check it out after the jump.Read More

SEGA Announces The Cave

Posted on May 24, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Adventure games have seen somewhat of a revival this year with Double Fine’s Kickstarter project raising a lot of money and positive press for the company. One adventure game just wasn’t enough for them as they announce a partnership with SEGA to publish Ron Gilbert’s The Cave sometime in early 2013.

In The Cave you will assemble a team of unlikely heroes to traverse a vast array of different landscapes. What other game can boast that you’ll be scaling the walls of a medieval castle one minute and trying to stop the launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile the next?Read More

Command & Conquer Alliances Retreats From Beta, Open To All

Posted on May 24, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

The next entry in the venerable Command & Conquer Franchise, the free to play Tiberium Alliance is now available for all to play. The game had a rather extensive closed beta which ran from December of last year all the way until this month!

Alliance puts you in the role of either a GDI or NOD commander during the Tiberium with the focus on building bases. You’ll have to place structures, manage incoming Tiberium crystals and power plants. The game certainly puts more emphasis on the base build and resource management that can sometimes fade into the background when playing a more traditional RTS.

EA released a debut trailer to mark the game coming out of beta. It is nice to see that they have treated Alliances with care, its visual style is very reminiscent of the modern C&C titles within the confines of traditional 2D Art.

Enlist now by checking out the game’s official website or watch the debut trailer.Read More

Fall of CyberTron DinoBots Trailer

Posted on May 24, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

High Moon Studio’s next Transformers game, Fall of Cybertron, brings the Dinobots into the fray. In this latest developer diary describe the origin of Dinobots is explained along with how they fit into the Transformers canon. Did you know that the Dinobots came about because some of the early transformers scanned prehistoric earth for new destructive forms?

According to the Dev Diary there have been many different origin stories for the Dinobots and this just happens to be the one that they decided upon. I think it would be pretty badass to rip around CyberTron tearing through the scenery asa giant robot would be pretty bad ass.

Fall of Cybertron will be released on PS3, Xbox and PC on August 28th 2012. Check out the brand new trailer after the jump!

Max Payne 3 | Review

Posted on May 23, 2012 by Eric Bastelak

It has been nine long years since we last left the Max Payne series, the thrilling cinematic franchise with a dark and twisting story. Max Payne invented one of the most imitated and never again perfected shooter mechanics, bullet time. When other series did it, it just didn’t feel right. Well move over Generic shooter two hundred and twenty billion, daddy is home and he’s going to show you what fun and challenge mean again.Read More

Tony Hawk HD’s Soundtracks Transports Us Back To 2000

Posted on May 23, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Activision is set to take the Tony Hawk franchise back to its roots with this summer’s Tony Hawks Pro Skater HD. The game revisits a simpler time when racking up a high score and collecting letters actually meant something. Gameplay mechanics and level design aren’t the only thing lifted from the early 2000s, the game’s soundtrack will also transport you back an entire decade.

Back in ’99 – ’01 when the first two Tony Hawk games were released back on the Dreamcast and original PlayStation Nu-Metal and rock bands where still king. Tony Hawk HD pays homage to these musical styles with a collection of songs from the first two games combined with a few new artists.

The full track list was recently revealed in an interview with Sound and Vision magazine. Check it out below:Read More

New Panzer Corps DLC Released

Posted on May 23, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Slitherine and Matrix Games have just announced the release of the Panzer Corps Grand Campaign ’45 East DLC. This is the seventh DLC for Panzer Corps, the turn based strategy game by The Lordz Games Studio.

As the name suggests, this DLC campaign focuses on the final months of the war from the German perspective. Things aren’t looking too good for the Wehrmacht as most of the maps take place in (then) German territories like Königsberg, Breslau, and Berlin.

If you are unfamiliar with Panzer Corps, it is an excellent Panzer General clone. The vanilla campaign is fairly epic, but the DLC campaigns upped the ante with gigantic maps and more varied objectives than “kill everybody and take their hexes.” If this sounds interesting to you, then try out the demo here. Read on for more information about the DLC and an unrelated music video featuring scenes from a Stalin era Soviet film about the battle for Berlin.

Magicka Collection Giveaway

Posted on May 23, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

The news about the Dead Island Game of the year Edition made me nostalgic for countless cooperative games from the halcyon days of 2011. Well, we don’t have copies of Dead island to give out, but we do still have some keys for Magicka, an excellent cooperative game where you can “accidentally” kill the other players. You will find Steam keys for the Magicka collection hidden in our articles, Twitter, Steam group, or Facebook page.

We’d like to thank Paradox Interactive for the free keys.
