SEGA Announces The Cave

Adventure games have seen somewhat of a revival this year with Double Fine’s Kickstarter project raising a lot of money and positive press for the company. One adventure game just wasn’t enough for them as they announce a partnership with SEGA to publish Ron Gilbert’s The Cave sometime in early 2013.

In The Cave you will assemble a team of unlikely heroes to traverse a vast array of different landscapes. What other game can boast that you’ll be scaling the walls of a medieval castle one minute and trying to stop the launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile the next?

When asked about his inspiration behind The Cave gilbert said this:

“The concept of The Cave has been bouncing around in my head for many, many years, and then the little voices that tell me to do things said it was time to make the game,”

You might think that the debut trailer is just standard adventure game fare. We get a lot of shots of characters jumping across platforms, climbing ladders and engaging in the kind of whimsical activities we’ve come to expect from the genre. That is until you get to the end of the trailer and it introduces a scifi twist (I won’t spoil it here)
