Metal Gear Solid V: Online Features Mechs & Adorable Puppies!

Posted on December 6, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

Konami unveiled the first trailer for Metal Gear Solid V: Online last night during the Video Game Awards. This first glimpse at online componet of the Phantom Pain comes with the tagline – “Tactical Team Operations”.

In the trailer we see several glimpses of new gameplay mechanics such as one player taking on the role of Big Boss (similar to how MGS 4 online had game modes were one player played as Naked Snake) while other players battle it out. Other note worthy additions include an adorable puppy replacing the porn magazines and a mechanized single occupant walker that Snake uses to wreak havoc.

Make sure you watch until the end because there’s a pretty awesome cameo from a character we haven’t heard much about in terms of their inclusion in The Phantom PainMGS V: The Phantom Pain is expected to be release sometime before the summer of 2015 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.Read More

Take A Trip To Gotham In This New Arkham Knight Gameplay Vid

Posted on November 25, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

Out of the shadows comes a brand new gameplay video for Batman: Arkham Knight from Warner Bros Interactive. This video gives you a great look at the game’s combat as well as how the Batmobile will be useable during missions! In part one of this three part walkthrough series Batman has to enter Ace chemicals and take down the Arkham Knight’s henchmen as well as rescue Ace workers who are being held hostage.

If I am not mistaken… Batman may have killed a dude at the 1:07 mark, I mean shoving someone’s head into a panel full of live electrical wires doesn’t exactly sound survivable.

Regardless, part two will be released on the Arkham Knight facebook page with the final video premiering during the PlayStation Experience Keynote on December 6th.

Batman Arkham Knight will be released on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on June 2nd 2015. Check out the full video after the jump.

Destiny | Review

Posted on November 5, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

Version Tested: PlayStation 3

Destiny quickly become one of the most pre-ordered titles in recent memory and of course it was backed by one of the largest marketing campaigns we’ve seen in a while for a videogame. Needless to say expectations for Bungie’s first post-Halo release reached into the stratosphere and after playing Destiny for quite some time I’m ready to render my verdict. Should you forge ahead into the stars and join the ranks of the Guardians or pass at being an interstellar savior?Read More

MGS V: Ground Zeroes Discounted To $20

Posted on October 30, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

Has the price for MGS V: Ground Zeroes kept you waiting for a discount? Just in time for Halloween, Konami has announced that all digital and physical copies of Ground Zeroes will be reduced to $19.99! Considering the game originally retailed for $39.99 USD for physical copies (or $44.99 if you live in the great white north) this new price point might be more appealing.

When we reviewed the game this past April we praised the brand new mechanics on display as well as the impressive graphics. The main story mission is rather short, clocking in at around 2 hours in length, but the extra missions do add some re-playability to Ground Zereos. If you’re looking to get a taste of MGS V before The Phantom Pain drops next year there is no other way to do it.

Techland Sends Xbox 360 / PS3 Versions of Dying Light To The Grave

Posted on October 28, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

Dying Light developer Techland has announced that they have ceased production on the last generation versions of their upcoming undead slaying action game.  They cited the fact that the PS3 and Xbox 360 couldn’t quite handle advanced features like physics based lighting technologies or displaying up to 200,000 objects on screen at one time as one of the contributing factors for cancelling both versions.

Sad news for those who haven’t jumped into the eight generation of consoles, yours truly included. Dying Light will now ship on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC  on January 27th 2015 and will be published by Warner Bros Interactive. There have been no plans for a Wii-U version of the game either, so if you picked up Nintendo’s latest console and where hoping for some more zombie killing action you’re out of luck.

Become a Legend With The Destiny Launch Trailer

Posted on September 9, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

Bungie’s latest title – the  MMO/FPS hybrid Destiny – is now available through both physical and digital retailers. To celebrate Activision released a live action trailer. This live action trailer was directed by Josepth Kosinki whom is probably most well known for helming TRON: legacy. He’s coupled his live action trailer with some Led Zepplin , which if you ask me is a pretty awesome choice.

Activision is trumpeting Destiny as “the most pre-ordered new video game IP” and according to them over 4 million people participated in the in the game’s beta this past July. Players take on the role of a Guardian on the last city on Earth. Adventures aren’t just limited to this planet of ours – the interactive world promises to span the stars with missions located on Mars!

Check out the live action trailer in the player below. Activision has provided Broken Joysticks with a PS3 copy of Destiny and we will be posting our full review in the coming weeks.

Next Gen Vs Current Gen: Metal Gear Solid V Ground Zeroes

Posted on February 20, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

Want to take a look at how Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes compares between console generations? Well, wonder no longer because Konami has released a two minute comparison video that shows us the differences between the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game. Alongside this visual comparison, Konami also revealed the resolutions and frame rates for each version.

Next Generation players on either platform will be able to enjoy Ground Zereos at 60 frames per second but there are some caveats – only the PS4 version will run natively at 1080p. On current generation systems and the Xbox One the game will run at 720P. If you’re sporting a last generation system the game will run at 30 FPS and 720P.

From the multiple viewings of this trailer that I watched prior to the publication of this article the major differences between the two generations, FPS and resolution aside, appear to be more realistic lighting, cleaner shadows and higher resolution textures in the next gen version.

Which version will you be picking up? We’ll be reviewing the PlayStation 3 build of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes shortly after release. The game will be out on March 18th in North America and March 20th in Europe.  Make sure to check out Konami’s video after the jump.Read More

Sony Begins Sending Out PlayStation Now Beta Invites

Posted on January 29, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

Last evening Sony began sending out invites for their upcoming PlayStation Now game streaming service, IGN.com has reported. The streaming service is entering a small closed beta period ahead of its official release sometime later this year and requires a 5MB internet connection and the use of a PlayStation 3 is recommended according to the invite email.

PlayStation Now is an online streaming service that will allow gamers to play titles from the console maker’s nearly 20 year history on the PlayStation 3, PS4 as well as Sony Bravia televisions and Smart Phones. The technology behind PlayStation Now based off of GaiKai’s streaming services, whom Sony purchased for $380 million dollars in 2012.

We don’t have a definitive list of launch titles for PlayStation Now but when the service was shown at CES 2014 both Beyond Two Souls and The Last of Us were both playable. We also do not have details on a pricing structure, launch window or whether or not PlayStation Now will tie into PlayStation Plus.

If you got into the beta, we’re super jealous!
