Posted on March 4, 2013 by Jason Nason

Ubisoft revealed the first official trailer for their upcoming game Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag early this morning. The trailer is very much a teaser that features a pirate captain describing the main character of the game.

The year is 1715. Pirates rule the Caribbean and have established their own lawless Republic. Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag introduces Edward Kenway, a brash rebel Pirate Assassin. His fight for glory has earned him the respect of legends like Blackbeard, but also drawn him into the ancient war between Assassins and Templars, a war that may destroy everything the pirates have built. Cliff Bleszinski talks State of the Industry

Posted on February 26, 2013 by Jason Bassett

According to Cliff Bleszinski, it seems as though the time is not right to be a console developer. That’s what Bleszinki recently said during an interview with GameIndustry.biz. In his interview Bleszinski states that:

“This business has not been in a state of transition like it is right now since the video game crash of the ’80s”. He goes on to say: “”I really think we’re in a massive state of turmoil. I think Nintendo could possibly be faced with the situation of becoming a company that only makes software moving forward. I think Sony and Microsoft are about to come to major blows. But at the same time, people love playing games on their iPad. The PC is going through a wonderful renaissance right now. I think we’re ready to do digital download games all the time…I just want to see what happens. In regards to the industry, it’s like the Super Smash Bros. of business right now, and I want to see if Peach or Mario wins.”Read More

Sony Issues Mysterious Credits To Loyal PSN Users Ahead of Press Conference

Posted on February 20, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Quick, check your PSN account! Did you receive a $5 or $10 voucher from Sony for the PlayStation Store? Several PSN users in North America are reporting (via twitter and NeoGaf) that they have received either of the credits in their PSN wallets as well as a thanks from the company for being a loyal supporter. While we don’t quite know their motive behind this move, perhaps it has something to do with the huge “See The Future” event being held in New York City?

There was also no apparent pattern for who received the credit, with some users reporting that they had the funds added to their account as much as a week ago. Perhaps Sony will be putting something special on the store during their press conference?

It is expected that we will get the first details of the PlayStation 4 at tonight’s event. We will be blogging during the entire event and posting recaps afterward, are you as excited as we are?

PS4 Controller Prototype Images Emerge

Posted on February 15, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

We’ve done a lot of reporting on the PlayStation 4 these past few weeks and now it looks like images from the unannounced system’s development kit are starting to pop up all around the web. From destructoid to gametrailers, anonymous sources have given the world its first look at two different prototypes for the PS4’s controller.

The controllers design pays homage to the Dualshock design of the past and, as rumored, adds a touch sensitive pad, similar to the one on the back of the PlayStation Vita, to the face of the controller. The grips on the controller, as well as the overall casing, look a little more ergonomic and rounded. Commentators have also pointed out that the sticks also feature indented thumb-sticks, but this could be a result of Sony using cheaper parts to prototype their controller. Both controllers plugged in via USB but they were both said to be early prototypes, one featuring the distinct glow featured on the PlayStation Move.

Sony is expected to unveil the PS4 at their “See The Future” event in New York city on Feb 20th. Check out a picture of the prototype controller after the jump.Read More

Is the Next Xbox Anti-Consumer?

Posted on February 7, 2013 by Joshua Rust

It’s not often that I like to express myself on rumors; with that being said, this one has floated around for a while: the elimination of used games. Now before you go grabbing your pitchforks and go on a witch hunt (keep them at arms reach though), this has not been confirmed by either Sony or Microsoft that it’s true.Read More

Rumor Has It The Next Xbox Will Have Always On DRM

Posted on February 6, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Rumor has it that Microsoft will require a constant connection in order to use their next generation gaming console. Internet connections are almost ubiquitous now-a-days, as we live in an age where you can browse your favorite websites and play online multiplayer games at broadband speed through your phone. If these rumors are accurate then Microsoft will be taking an aggressive stance against not only piracy, but second hand games sales with the constant connection requirement in the Xbox Durango.

Edge Online brings us these latest tidbits about Redmond’s yet unannounced console. Some of this stuff we’ already knew or assumed – like the existence of a Blu-Ray drive in the console or the fact that the system will be a multi-core processor clocked at 1.6GHZ, designed by AMD. Also as speculated, the console will ship with a second generation Kinect Sensor. With rival Sony poised to fire the first shot in the next-generation race, tech specs and reports seem to be leaking from both companies at a brisk pace.Read More
