Legendaries, Team Rocket, and bosses return in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon

Posted on November 2, 2017 by Jason Nason

They’re back! In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon, the greatest villainous organization in history appears! It’s Team Rainbow Rocket—made up of the bosses from past titles in the Pokémon series!

The boss of Team Rainbow Rocket is none other than Giovanni, who was also the boss of the villainous organization known as Team Rocket in Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue, the first games in the Pokémon series.

But that’s not the worst of it—Giovanni has gathered into one group the bosses from the various past games in the Pokémon series! You and your allies will have to square off against what might be your greatest challenge yet!

But that’s not all.

You won’t only find Ultra Beasts in the worlds that lie beyond an Ultra Wormhole. You can even encounter Legendary Pokémon, such as Mewtwo, Ho-Oh, Lugia, and others. In fact, all the Legendary Pokémon from previous games will appear in the worlds you explore in Pokémon Ultra Sunand Pokémon Ultra Moon!

Some of the Legendary Pokémon that you can encounter differ, depending on which game you’re playing. By exploring both Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon, you can encounter and catch all the Legendary Pokémon that appeared in previous Pokémon series games.

Most of the Legendary Pokémon that you can encounter await you in the worlds beyond Ultra Wormholes, but some Legendary Pokémon can be encountered when you fulfill special conditions. For example, you can encounter Giratina if you have both Dialga, which can be encountered in Pokémon Ultra Sun,and Palkia, which can be encountered in Pokémon Ultra Moon,as allies.

So you’ll need both games or have a friend with the other one if you want to truly catch all of the legendaries.

The following Pokémon appear in Pokémon Ultra Sun only: Ho-Oh, Raikou, Groudon, Latios, Dialga, Heatran, Reshiram, Tornadus, Xerneas. The following Pokémon appear in Pokémon Ultra Moon only: Lugia, Entei, Kyogre, Latias, Palkia, Regigigas, Zekrom, Thundurus, Yveltal.

These Pokémon will appear only when specific Pokémon are in your party:

Suicune (with Raikou and Entei present), Rayquaza (with Groudon and Kyogre present), Giratina (with Dialga and Palkia present), Kyurem (with Reshiram and Zekrom present), Landorus (with Tornadus and Thundurus present).

The Battle Agency is a new facility where you can enjoy battling by easily renting powerful Pokémon.

When you don your sunglasses and become an “agent” at this facility, you can take part in Single Battles using rental Pokémon. You’ll have three such Pokémon to command as you try to defeat the three Pokémon in your opponent’s team. Try to win your way to being the best of all the agents!

The Pokémon you can rent for these battles will increase as you mingle with other players around you or over the internet. Connect with formidable players, and you’ll be able to rent powerful Pokémon.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Coming to Mobile Devices in Late November

Posted on October 24, 2017 by Jason Nason

One of Nintendo’s most enduring franchises, Animal Crossing is coming to mobile devices for the first time in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. The new smart device game allows players to decorate and expand their camper home, and learn more about the community they are part of. In the first Animal Crossing game for mobile devices, you can interact with animal friends, craft furniture items and gather resources while managing a campsite. It’s a slight departure from the core Animal Crossing gameplay but it looks like another laid back and enjoyable experience.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp launches on iOS- and Android-compatible mobile devices in late November.

“As our past mobile games have proved, we love taking established and well-loved franchises and transforming them for the ways players use their devices,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp is great for newcomers to the series as well as longtime fans, and ideal for people playing on a mobile device.”

Some of the highlights in the video include the following:

  • Manage Your Manager: When you start a new game in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, you will be asked to create your personalized campsite manager avatar – your character in the game. You can choose to be a girl or a boy, and customize things like skin color, hair color and eye color. Whatever suits you!
  • Arts & Crafts: By gathering resources like fruit and wood, you can craft items for your campsite. These include furniture and decorative items, like couches and benches, as well as baskets and plants. To craft items, just speak to classic Animal Crossing villager Cyrus to put in an order. After the item is finished, you can place it around your campsite or decorate the interior of your camper.
  • Leaf Tickets: Leaf Tickets can be earned through regular gameplay or purchased using real-world money, and can be used in a variety of ways in the game. For example, they can be used to shorten the time needed to craft items, more easily acquire materials or acquire unique camper exterior designs.
  • Friendship Level: In Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, you can chat with your animal friends or fulfill their requests to raise your friendship level. If you level up your friendship or decorate your campsite with an animal’s favorite items, she or he might pay you a visit.
  • BHFF (Best Human Friends Forever): Not all of your friends in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp will have fur or feathers. You can send your in-game Player ID to real-life friends who also own the game to have them visit your campsite. Random player avatars will also visit the campsite from time to time. Once someone visits, you can exchange your Bells for items saved in the Market Box.
  • Tick Tock: Similar to past Animal Crossing games, time passes in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp just like in real life! As morning, day, evening and night pass, the scenery in the game will change and different animal friends might show up.
  • Area MapAnimal Crossing: Pocket Camp is full of places to visit and explore. In addition to your campsite, you can travel in your camper to a beach, a forest, a river and an island.
  • Market Place: The go-to spot for shopaholics, Market Place is full of stores run by familiar Animal Crossing characters like Timmy, Tommy and the Able Sisters. The various shops in Market Place offer things like furniture and clothing items. The selection at each shop rotates, so don’t be a stranger!
  • OK Motors: Remember that camper that was mentioned a few bullets back? It’s not used to just travel between locations in the game. By visiting the OK Motors store, you can acquire things to customize your camper, including furniture to fill the interior and paint to decorate the exterior. It’s like those tiny homes that are all the rage … but with wheels!
  • Expanding Camp Life: In addition to all the fun things you can do in the game, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp will eventually offer seasonal events to keep the experience fresh and surprising, as well as limited-time furniture and outfit options through game updates. These events and updates will begin rolling out after launch.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp will launch for free on iOS and Android mobile devices in late November. For more information about the game, visit https://ac-pocketcamp.com.

Pokemon Go Has Been Dropping Less Items For Some Players For A While Now

Posted on October 24, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Walking through downtown Calgary tonight I decided to login to Pokemon Go for the first time in several months and catch some spooky monsters from the Halloween event. My usual walking route contains approximately 20 or so PokeStops including a few Gyms, so when walking it forward & back, filling my item bag is usually par for the course. Except for tonight I noticed something odd – every Stop/Gym was only giving me two items. What the hell…

After some sleuthing (e.g. Using Google) it turns out the Niantic has been messing with the drop rates of both PokeStops & Gyms for at least the past two weeks. Back on October 11th Reddit user, vtmcouver reported that they had begun to see Stops/Gyms drop only two items. Over the course of that evenings one particular user collected 250 spins from across the Reddit community (that’s a lot of walking) and came to some interesting conclusions:

  • Gyms will only drop 2 to 3 items (not including bonuses for your team controlling the Gym or daily streaks).
  • The differing drop rates may be tied to individual trainer accounts rather than be based on other criteria – say trainer location.
  • If your account is affected there is only a %10 – %12 chance that you’ll receive a bonus third item per spin.
  • Some players report never receiving a bonus item at all.

These numbers aren’t exact, and I don’t expect that Niantic will comment on the item drop rate. It is a bit of a bummer – as a casual Pokemon Go player I kind of relied on regular PokeStop drops to provide me with enough Pokeballs to play. If these changes are indeed account wide, I guess all I can do is a shrug and I’ll be less inclined to play Pokemon Go as we head into the Winter months.

Are you experience fewer item drops from Gyms & Pokestops? Let me know in the comments.

Animal Crossing Direct coming Tuesday

Posted on October 23, 2017 by Jason Nason

Nintendo announced this morning that there will be a special Nintendo Direct planned for tomorrow. The Direct will be focused solely on the Animal Crossing mobile app.

A mobile app based in the Nintendo franchise was announced long ago with no details aside from being dated for 2017. The presentation tomorrow should give us all the information we need including release date, pricing, as well as just what the app will be about.

Will this be a mobile version of the popular game? Will it connect somehow to the 3DS title or allow for some functionality between the two titles? Perhaps the new app will play a role in an as yet unannounced Switch title.

So many questions, which will hopefully be answered tomorrow.

The Nintendo Direct is set to begin at 11:00PM ET.

Nostalgia Fueled ‘New 3DSXL SNES Edition’ Confirmed For North America

Posted on October 23, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Not simply content with mining the nostalgia from our collective youth with the recently released SNES Classic Mini, Nintendo of America has confirmed that the previously Europe exclusive ‘New 3DSXL: SNES Edition’ will be coming to our shores on November 27th.

Setting the North American version apart from its colorful European counterpart is, of course, the muted color scheme of light & dark purples featured on the face buttons. Combining the familiar North American SNES controller ABXY button colors with the soft grey of the console’s housing – this limited edition New 3DSXL mimics Nintendo’s 16-bit console faithfully.

No word yet on if you leave your New 3DS XL SNES Edition in the sun if it will turn yellow like the SNES’ of yore.

The yellowing color of many early SNES units was actually due to a fire suppression chemical being mixed incorrectly when the plastics for the body were produced.

The New 3DSXL SNES Edition will come bundled with a download code for the SNES classic racer Super Mario Kart and will retail for $199 USD.
