Posted on April 29, 2016 by Jason Nason

The second round of DLC maps for Fire Emblem Fates is on the way, with the first round arriving next week.

Starting May 5th, the first map, I: In Endless Dreams, can be downloaded for only $0.49 USD, with subsequent maps launching weekly until June 9th for $1.99 USD each. As with before fans that want to automatically receive each new map as it releases can do so by purchasing Map Pack 2 for $7.99 USD. As an added incentive there a significant savings for purchasing Map Pack 2 as the content would run you more than $10 USD if purchased individually.

Unlike the contents of Map Pack 1, the stages included in Map Pack 2 tell an ongoing story.

Across dimensions, other versions of the Hoshidan and Nohrian children are under attack. Born and raised in the Deeprealms, these fledgling warriors must now rise up to save themselves and their parents as they unravel the mystery of their adversaries. In this six-map series, units leveled up in the main game cannot lend support. Players must devise a strategy using a fresh team to reap the rewards, but only if all units survive.

Nintendo Canada hosts Pre-Launch event in Advance of Fire Emblem Fates Release Next Week

Posted on February 13, 2016 by Jason Nason

Nintendo of Canada held a special pre-release event in Toronto on Friday evening, allowing the general public to get their hands on the game for the first time. The event was split between Birthright and Conquest, with the separate sides draped and lit in the colours of the respective themes.

The game was playable for a short time on either side, with both games available to play.

Overall the games look and play just like predecessor Fire Emblem Awakening, though there are some minor upgrades to the battles. These are mostly cosmetic, however they look great. Rather than just fading out between the map screen and the battles themselves, this time in Fates the camera zooms right down onto into the battle where you can see your characters doing battle. As well after the battle is complete the camera pulls back to show the entire battlefield.

The way the characters battle within these battles also looks and feels more natural, with more fluidity and more realism.

It’s a very minor and cosmetic thing, but got our attention so it was worth mentioning.

BrokenCast EP 02: The Fire Emblem Conundrum

Posted on August 17, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

This week on BrokenCast Rae Michelle Richards sits down and talks with Andrea Ritsu and C.K Oliver about the recent controversy surrounding Nintendo’s upcoming Fire Emblem Fates for the Nintendo 3DS as well as queer relationships in videogames.

For those who are unaware there is a female NPC in the game named Soleil who is a canon lesbian. The male player character (Kamui) is able to slip her a “magic powder” that changes perception of the binary genders and after it has worn off a romance option opens up for the male main protagonist.

Andrea Ritsu published a post rightfully criticizing Nintendo for the inclusion of this rather disgusting date rape allegory and conversion of a character’s sexual orientation. In this episode Andrea recounts how the Fire Emblem Conundrum began and what it ensued when the gaming press began to pick up on her post that reached over 17,000 notes.
