My Nintendo presents July Nindie Game Gold Point Rewards

Posted on July 29, 2018 by Jason Nason

Nintendo users can redeem their Gold Points for some of the great indie games on Nintendo platforms. Four Nindie games have been added as Gold Points rewards on My Nintendo, three for 3DS and one for Wii U

Runbow Pocket (New Nintendo 3DS)
Developer: 13AM Studios – 110 Gold Points
Runbow Pocket is a fast, frantic game where you can conquer over 145 levels in Adventure and The Bowhemoth, or go head to head in Run, Arena, and King of the Hill online. The world changes with each swipe of colour, so you’ll have to stay on your toes as platforms and obstacles disappear.

Noitu Love: Devolution (Nintendo 3DS)
Developer: MP2 Games – 80 Gold Points
”Noitu Love: Devolution” stars Xoda Rap – the new Peacekeepers prodigy – who has to protect the city from the onslaught of the evil Darn horde, thought to have been vanquished a hundred years ago! But this time, they bring with them more than just their grins, as the city is bending and deforming into different times and places! What could be going on? Use Parental Controls to restrict 3D mode for children 6 and under.

Severed (Nintendo 3DS)
Developer: Drinkbox – 110 Gold Points
Take control of a one-armed warrior named Sasha, wielding a living sword on her journey through a nightmare world in search of her family. Swipe-based touch controls will let you solve puzzles, find secrets, and do battle with a host of disturbing monsters. As the journey goes on, you’ll unlock abilities, ascend an RPG-style upgrade tree, and tease apart the mysteries of the dark fantasy universe Sasha finds herself in.

Freedom Planet (Wii U)
Developer: Galaxy Trail – 110 Gold Points
Fight your way across the celestial world of Avalice where cats are green, motorcycles drive up walls and monster girls do most of the buttkicking! Freedom Planet is a cartoony, combat-based platform adventure that pits a spunky dragonoid and her friends against an alien attack force.

Gold Coins are now Points; My Nintendo arrives for Nintendo Switch

Posted on March 6, 2018 by Jason Nason

It took a year but My Nintendo members can now redeem Gold Points for digital games and DLC for the Nintendo Switch.

When you buy a qualifying digital game for Nintendo Switch, Wii U, or Nintendo 3DS, or a physical game for the Nintendo Switch system, you’ll earn Gold Points based on the amount you pay (excluding any points or discounts used). You’ll earn 5% for eligible digital purchases on Nintendo.com or Nintendo eShop (Nintendo Switch, Nintendo 3DS, Wii U) and 1% of the Nintendo eShop price for physical purchases for the Nintendo Switch.

Redeem those points on your next eligible digital purchase (including games and DLC) for the Nintendo Switch system. Just look for the option to apply your points during checkout.

According to the Nintendo release, if you buy a $59.99 game on Nintendo eShop, you’ll earn 300 Gold Points. Those points can then be redeemed for $3 toward your next purchase, which will earn more Gold Points, according to the amount you paid (excluding any points or discounts used). So 1 gold point is equal to 1 cent (CAD).

With the addition of Nintendo Switch to the My Nintendo program, Nintendo has made some changes. Previously called “Platinum coins” and “Gold coins,” the value of the revised points has changed. Previously the Gold Coins earned were in tiers. When I purchased Pokémon Silver in the Nintendo eShop ($12.89 CAD) I earned just 10 Gold Coins. Making the same purchase now would now earn “up to 64 Gold Points.”

Overall this does seem like a good change and the arrival of My Nintendo on Nintendo Switch is definitely a great thing.

Nintendo lists latest My Nintendo rewards for June

Posted on June 5, 2017 by Jason Nason

Nintendo has launched the list of My Nintendo rewards for the month of June and they are a little underwhelming. While I love the idea of rewarding loyal Nintendo fanboys with discounts, giving those discounts on already discounted Nintendo Selects titles isn’t really that appealing. Sure it’s always nice to get a discount but let’s be honest. Most of use likely already have some of these titles.

Additionally some of these discounts require spending gold coins, which one can only collect though purchases of digital content through the Nintendo eShop. Any of us who still primarily pick up physical copies of Nintendo’s AAA titles (like myself) won’t get any of these coins, leaving us out of these savings. You can read my thoughts on the cost of collecting gold coins here.

In the early days of My Nintendo there were some really worthwhile rewards, most of which required the redemption of Platinum coins. Those are the ones that you can get by logging into the Nintendo eShop and Miiverse weekly, and also by playing and completing quests in Nintendo’s mobile games. Playing these games, collecting platinum coins, and then spending these coins on mobile in-game rewards was satisfying. Wallpapers are also somewhat fun to redeem with these ‘free’ coins. Nintendo also released the Kid Icarus anime for the Nintendo 3DS as a My Nintendo reward and they even released a special My Nintendo The Legend of Zelda Picross game for 1,000 Platinum coins.

My Nintendo releases Fire Emblem rewards

Posted on April 3, 2017 by Jason Nason

It’s the start of another month and Nintendo has some fresh rewards for their My Nintendo loyalty program. April seems to Fire Emblem month, which is appropriate considering that Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is right around the corner. That game is set to arrive in stores and the Nintendo 3DS eShop on May 19th.

Use your Nintendo account you can redeem points to score 30% off three classic Fire Emblem games. Two require the use of gold coins while the third can be redeemed with some affordable coins of the platinum variety, so if you have those laying around and don’t already have these Fire Emblem games then hop to it.

September’s My Nintendo Rewards

Posted on September 4, 2016 by Jason Nason

You know, I’m just not sold on the benefits of My Nintendo. Sure there are some nice little things here and there, but on a whole I’m having a lot of trouble spending my coins. Not only on platinum and Miitomo coins, but also the gold coins. The rewards that you get for cashing in those coins really doesn’t seem worth it.

This is coming as someone who is a huge Nintendo fan. I’m all about Nintendo and if you’ve ever seen my posts here or anywhere else it’s quite apparent. But is there anything new and exciting from My Nintendo that peaks my interest? Sadly, no.

What do you want most from Nintendo’s rewards system? If you said new, unique, or cool stuff then we’re in agreement.

Miitomo, My Nintendo to Launch this March

Posted on February 3, 2016 by Jason Nason

Nintendo outlined its launch plans for both Miitomo, the company’s first smartphone app, as well as their new loyalty rewards program “My Nintendo” today.

Nintendo’s first app made exclusively for smart devices, Miitomo, will launch in North America in March for both iOS and Android phones and tablets.

Starting February 17th, people will be able to pre-register for Miitomo by signing up for the new Nintendo Account service using their existing email, social media accounts or current Nintendo Network IDs. People who pre-register will be among the first to be notified about the availability of Miitomo when it launches in March.

Nintendo will offer a special Miitomo bonus to anyone who signs up for a Nintendo Account between February 17th and launch.

Miitomo is a social experience that uses Nintendo’s Mii characters, which first debuted on the Wii console, to engage friends in a lighthearted and welcoming environment. Users can spark fun conversations and learn more about each other by answering questions such as “What song has been stuck in your head lately?”, “Do you believe in aliens?”, or even “If you saw a nose hair sticking out of your friend’s nose, what would you do?” Users can also easily take and share photos featuring their Mii with the Miifoto feature. Nintendo’s new My Nintendo rewards program will launch alongside Miitomo in March, and will be able to connect with the app.
