Namco Bandai And Sega Team Up For.. Drumming In Yakuza 5?

Posted on August 8, 2012 by Seung Lee

The Yakuza games have always had a plethora of minigames to lure players away from their main objectives, and it looks like that’ll also be the case in the fifth main installment of the series. Now, I haven’t played all of the Yakuza games, but I do remember there being a rhythm game of sorts in 3. There’s no info yet on what exactly all of the minigames will be in Yakuza 5, but we now know that one of them will be a joint collaboration between Namco Bandai Games and Sega.

Andriasang managed to get a hold of this week’s Famitsu, a popular Japanese gaming magazine, and learned about this new minigame. Taiko: Drum Master was an arcade drumming game, developed by Namco (this was before the merge with Bandai), that was then ported over to the PlayStation 2. An arcade machine with this game will be available to play in Yakuza 5, with songs such as Mappy Ondo and Shinsekai Yori (just as clueless as you are as to what these songs are). Let’s just hope that it won’t be too difficult to play, considering that it IS Japan after all..

Now, I haven’t mentioned this yet, but Yakuza 5 isn’t even confirmed for release outside of Japan. It’ll be out in December ’12 for the PS3 over there. As for when the rest of us will get it, we’ll have to see. Considering that all past four main installments of the series have made it to the rest of the world, it’s safe to say that us non-Japanese fluent people will be able to return to the Land of the Rising Sun next year.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale PaRappa the Rapper Video

Posted on August 8, 2012 by Broken Joysticks

With the public beta for SuperBot Entertainment’s PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale almost upon us, the PlayStation blog has unveiled a video that shows off some neat tricks for a fan favorite from the original PS era, PaRappa the Rapper. His playstyle draws from his love of music, skateboarding abilities, and rapid kung-fu moves.

PaRappa’s impressive mobility makes it easy for him to get in close and wail on his opponent(s). This is great because he’s primarily a close range fighter. One of our paper-thin friend’s specials has him dropping a boombox (Boxxy Boy from the two games) and generates AP. This move, however, can also be used by the opponent(s). PaRappa’s level 1 attack is a quick, but short range flip kick from his skateboard. His level 2 attack has him riding on his skateboard (FYI, he can be controlled during this) for a distance on the screen. Lastly, we have the level 3 attack, which changes the screen to a concert, reminiscent of his game. The cool thing about this move is that it’s one of the few screen clearing specials in the game!

Skyrim’s 1.7 Patch Is Finally Coming To Consoles This Week

Posted on August 8, 2012 by Seung Lee

It’s August 8 as I write this article. Why is this little fact important? Well, the latest title update for Bethesda’s Skyrim is version 1.7, and it’s going to be hitting the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 tomorrow. Specifically, 360 Skyrim players from all across the world can expect the patch tomorrow. For the PS3 version, the patch will only be hitting the states on the 9th. The European version of 1.7 will be out the following week.

What exactly does 1.7 do? That’s a good question; it fixes a number of glitches such as general memory and stability optimizations. That’s not all, the 360 version will receive fixes for Spanish, German, French, and Italian shouts. Check out the Twitter announcement regarding patch 1.7 here.

P.S. Still don’t have any info on the PS3 release date for Dawnguard. It’s coming though, don’t worry.

Posted on August 8, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Codemaster’s have taken the wraps off of Grid 2, their next racing game, due out in 2013. The sequel to 2009’s breakout racing hit puts players in the role of unnamed character. This time around it is not simply about collecting cars, sponsorships and unlocking tracks but about following a player character as they progress through the world of sponsored racing.  Grid 2 is set for release on PS3, PC and Xbox 360 sometime next year, jam packed with a more expansive career mode and online multiplayer.

Right now Codemasters is running a promotion through RaceNet, their online news portal. By liking their page on either facebook or twitter you can help unlock special rewards tied to Grid 2. Some of the perks include in game screenshots, trailers and more.

If you’re looking for something a little substantial why not check out the debut trailer. Watch as multiple cars take to the racetrack, bumping and grinding against each other. Just like the first game there’s some crazy physics action in play as cars spin out of control fly off the course into piles of wreckage. SEGA Bans Foreign PSO 2 Players With Latest Patch

Posted on August 8, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Sad news for anyone trying to connect to Phantasy Star Online 2, SEGA Japan has decided to limit access to the nation of Japan. That means that the 1000s of North American and European players, members of our staff included, are no longer able to access the game from this point forward. It looks like those of us outside of the land of the rising sun will have to wait until 2013 to get a taste of that sweet free to play Phantasy Star Online action.

SEGA’s updated terms of service forbids users from connecting to the game using either an internet connection located outside of Japan or a proxy within the country. No exact reason was stated in the terms of service but it could be because foreign players are believed to be behind a string of hacks, including the removal of Non Player Characters.Read More
