Skyrim’s First DLC – Dawnguard – Arrives This Summer

Posted on May 1, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

One of 2011’s finest games, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, will receive its first dose of downloadable content with the release of Dawnguard this summer Bethesda has announced. In a similar fashion to Activision’s Call of Duty DLC the Xbox 360 version of Dawnguard will be a timed exclusive. This means that PC and PS3 players will have to presumably wait a few months before getting their hands on it.

We know little about Dawnguard‘s content at this time. Bethesda’s blog post regarding the expansion contains just a simple teaser image and the promise that more details will be revealed at this year’s E3.Read More

Konami Set To Deploy Solid Snake Onto Vita This June

Posted on May 1, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Solid Snake will be deployed on the PlayStation Vita for the first time with the release of the Metal Gear Solid Collection this June Konami has announced. The Vita version of the collection will include the re-mastered versions of Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3 that were released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 last November.

The ability to bring these two classics isn’t the only selling point for the Vita version of the collection. Players will be able to use their fingers to zoom and peak around corners. The game also supports the “transfaring” option allowing players with both the Vita and PS3 versions to transfer their saves between platforms.

Konami released some new Vita screenshots for the  MGS Collection check them out after the jump.Read More

TERA Online Launches

Posted on May 1, 2012 by Kirk Williford

TERA Online is now available for purchase, according to developers En Masse Entertainment and distributor Atari.

TERA is an action-based MMORPG that was developed using Epic Game’s Unreal Engine 3. In the game, players can assume the role one of eight different classes across seven different races, ranging from the strong Baraka to the elegant High Elf. The game takes place in Arborea and features all of which you’d come to expect from an MMO — crafting, PvP, questing and dungeons, but also brings many new elements to the genre. The game is set up to be played entirely with a controller if the player chooses, and a more dynamic combat system promises more real-time flavored fights against players and giant monsters alike. Unlike most MMOs where you tab target, in TERA, you use your crosshair to aim spells and attacks against opponents, bringing an entirely new feel to the genre.

TERA Online is available in stores starting today, and retails for $49.99 USD. There is a monthly fee to access the game’s servers. You can check out the game’s launch trailer after the jump.Read More

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Set for Nov. 13

Posted on May 1, 2012 by Andrew Minott

Confirming public speculation, Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops will be receiving a sequel on November 13, 2012. At the time of this writing Callofduty.com‘s UK page has sparse info, such as the preview still of a currently unplayable trailer on YouTube, and only a small amount of promotional copy promising that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 takes place in “a near future, 21st Century Cold War, where technology and weapons have converged to create a new generation of warfare.”

Stay tuned to Brokenjoysticks.net for more information when Activision makes their official announcement this evening, and their website stops blocking IP’s from accessing certain sections of it.

Daily Giveaway: Magicka May Day

Posted on May 1, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

I hope that you have all survived Walpurgis Night unscathed and are ready for an excellent first of May. In the past, the first of May was May Day, a springtime festival. It’s also International Workers’ Day. This year is different. May 1, 2012 will be remembered (by a few of you) as the day that began Broken Joysticks’ epic month of game giveaways and contests.

Most of the staff of Broken Joysticks are somewhat puzzled by what the May Day was all about. However, I have it on good authority that it involved wizards, breaking the fourth wall, and accidentally crushing your friends with magic rocks. Thus, we shall commemorate May Day by giving out three steam codes for the Magicka Collection. You may find them hidden in our articles, twitter account, or our steam group.

Directions for activating the game on steam and a trailer may be found after the jump.

Win a Signed Copy of Gears of War 3

Posted on May 1, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

If there is one thing we at Broken Joysticks love besides video games, it’s creativity. Good films, timeless literature, mind boggling abstract paintings, and performance artists covering themselves with live fire ants rarely fails to stimulate our right brains. However, it recently came to our attention that driving Chainsaw Bayonets into the necks of locusts is also stimulating. This realization, which sparked a prairie fire in the staff’s collective unconscious, convinced us to combine the two. Thus, we are proud to announce our Gears of War 3 contest. We’re giving away a signed copy of Gears of War 3 to a reader whose creativity proves them worthy of such a prize. You can read the details after the jump. We apologize in advance for all the legalese.
