Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 Looks Like a Hot Mess

Posted on September 29, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Skinned knees, sore joints and maybe the occasional broken bone are all expected hazards when learning to skateboard but how about glitching through the walls and stuttering back and forth? From early first hand reports the retail version of Activision’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 is absolute mess.  What happened, Bird Man?

Activision’s revival of the long dormant Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater franchise shipped to retail this morning and it sounds like the game turned out to be a complete bail. With reports (and YouTube videos) of skaters glitching back and forth on the rails, to riders clipping through the environment it looks like the developers may have let more than a few minor bugs slip through the certification process.

As of the time of writing there are more than few threads over on the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater Reddit warning potential buyers that they should “know what you’re signing up for” before putting down $60 for the game. Reports have varied from the aforementioned bugs to a large 7 gigabyte patch that’s nearly double the initial install size of the game being available out of the box.

It is no wonder Activision hasn’t supplied us or many other press outlets with review codes for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5. We’ve sent multiple requests for a review code and will update this article if we hear anything back from the publisher.

Perhaps you should do a 180 if you approach this game at your local GameStop? If you’re having issues with THPS5 we’d love to hear from you!

Check out some of the glitch videos below.

New Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 Developer Diary

Posted on June 26, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Activision’s team of developers are reaffirming their commitment to bringing the old school high score tallying playstyle of classic Tony Hawk Pro Skater games with this latest ViDoc for Tony Hawk’s Proskater 5.

Interviews with professional skaters interspersed with members of the developers make up the bulk of this new ViDoc. We get a better idea about some of the gameplay changes coming to THPS5 including the slamdown mechanic allows players to put a downward thrust on their boards to extend combos. Activision hopes that online custom skate park sharing and communities will entice an entire generation of skate fans to make their own creations.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 Announced

Posted on May 7, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Get ready to shred up the skate park once again with the confirmation of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. After appearing on the cover of the upcoming issue of Game Informer publisher Activision has confirmed the a brand new entry in the long running Tony Hawk franchise is set to debut later this year on current gen consoles.

Returning to the series roots THPS5 focuses on completing objectives, getting high scores and finding hidden secrets through its levels. Developer Robomodo promises that the inclusion of online play and power-ups (like projectiles) will add variety to the game-play without compromising the classic feel that the THPS franchise is known for.

The last numbered Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater title, THPS4 was released in 2002 for the GameCube, PS2 and original Xbox. The last two major console releases in the franchise Tony Hawk Ride (2009) and Tony Hawk Shred (2010) received less than stellar reviews. However a reimagining of content from Pro Skaters 2 & 3, titled Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD was well received a few years back.

Get ready to lace up your shoes and kick flip the board one more time! Who’s up for a game of HORSE?
