Posted on August 18, 2013 by Jason Nason

It seems that a JRPG may be coming to the 3DS.

On August 6th @nicalis hinted at something coming with the tweet “JRPG+SNES style music+3DS.” That tweet was preceded by one asking their twitter followers where they could find a good SNES style composer.

Tyrone Rodriguez from Nicalis also remarked in Twitter, “I really enjoy playing a good eShop JRPG on my 3DS.”

According to a posting on Destructoid, Nicalis, the developer behind NightSky, will publish the former 16-bit style RPG Android title Grinsia for the Nintendo 3DS.

The game was originally released by Kemco.

Disney Infinity for 3DS Not Looking Good

Posted on August 17, 2013 by Jason Nason

I can’t say for sure as far as the gameplay goes as we didn’t get our hands on a pre-release copy of Disney Infinity, but the 3DS iteration of the game isn’t looking that great.

The game launches tomorrow on all major consoles including the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii U and the Nintendo Wii. The game is a direct competitor to the Skylanders franchise which includes collectible toys which can be placed on a control deck and brought into your video game.

While the game is looking great and seeing a lot of positive words from critics, the 3DS edition is looking like a totally different game and visually seems like an afterthought by the developers. I’ve seen far prettier textures from games.

Pokemon X & Y Features New Mega Evolutions For Some Pokemon

Posted on August 8, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

A few weeks ago pokemon fans the world over were wondering just what the newly announced alternate form of Mewtwo was all about. If a recently posted translation of a Japanese gaming magazine is correct than Pokemon X & Y will feature a brand new type of evolutions.

The newest form of evolution is known as “mega evolutions” and will affect several pokemon including Blazaken, Absol, Mewtwo and others. Reportedly this is achieved using a “mega stone”, which may work similar to the elemental stones introduced in Pokemon Blue and Red. Each mega-pokemon also has an attribute associated with them: for example MegaMewtwo is associated with insomina, MegaLucario is associated with adaptability and MegaAbsol has magic bounce.

What do you think of these new evolutions? My first reaction was that the term Mega-Evolution reminds me of Digimon, at least the 1999 anime, as that series had “mega forms” for each of its monsters. I’m also hoping that the mega-stone is a rare item, so that not every team I face online has a Mega Mewtwo leading the pack.

Donkey Kong Coming to Virtual Console Again

Posted on August 2, 2013 by Jason Nason

Donkey Kong, the classic Nintendo arcade hit from way back in the NES days is making its way back to Nintendo … again. The original NES version of Donkey Kong will be making its way onto the 3DS Virtual Console on August 15th.

An iteration of the game was released previously on the 3DS as a special promotion between October 1st, 2012 and January 6, 2013 for those who purchased select games before the end date. The game wasn’t available as a stand alone game.

This is the third time that the game has been released virtually. It was first released for the Wii Virtual Console as a VC launch title on November 19th, 2006 for 500 points. It was then released again on the Wii U Virtual Console title just a few weeks ago on July 15th at a special price of just 30 cents.

Wii U Sales Soft While 3DS Sales Strong

Posted on August 1, 2013 by Jason Nason

Nintendo released their global sales yesterday. The good news is that net and ordinary income is in the green at ¥8.62 billion ($88.1 million). Also 3DS sales were strong last quarter. The bad news is that Wii U sales were on the opposite end if the sales spectrum.

The 3DS was the best selling hardware in the United States for the past two months and the system continues to show strong performance across the world. In the quarter ending June 30, 2013, 1.4 million handhelds were sold.

The Wii U continues to struggle however. The system has sold only 160,000 consoles worldwide over the same three month period, with total worldwide sales reaching 3.61 million. First-party software sales only reached just over to 1 million units for the Wii U.
