2016 and Gaming: A Year in Preview

Posted on December 28, 2015 by Kenny Keelan

2016featured

As we’re closing in on the end of one year and getting ready to start the next, a lot of people are reflecting on the year that’s past and others are looking at the year to come. I’m one of those looking to the future and I’ll tell you why: 2016 and the coming years after are going to be an extremely exciting time for games. While gaming has always been a longtime passion of mine, I do have to admit that it has felt like, in the last couple generations, innovation and creativity had been been steadily decreasing while market saturation has been steadily increasing. It wasn’t looking good as the market was looking stale and things weren’t change. Sure, there were gimmicks that came and went but nothing really stuck. There were few real surprises and the things that jumped aboard the hype train were mostly games we’d been anticipating and asking for, for years. There was a lot of vaporware, a lot of E3s that came and went that left us wanting more and spending more time laughing at the flaws than celebrating the wonders. In my honest opinion, the fifth generation was the last generation that truly brought us wonders we never thought we’d see possible and all the last couple generations did was expand on that. We never saw anything truly groundbreaking and that’s part of why 2016 is going to be an exciting year: we are going to see a lot of broken ground and whether or not it will be truly successful, we finally see companies going out and taking risks and those are the kinds of moves that change gaming for the better. Follow the jump for our preview of the year to come and what to watch for!

Microsoft Acquires Gears of War Rights From Epic Games

Posted on January 27, 2014 by Joshua Rust

Gears of War is unanimously one of the flagship titles for any of Microsoft’s consoles. To date, the franchise combined has sold over twenty-two million copies – grossing in just over $1 Billion dollars. With this acquisition, Microsoft hopes to continue giving the fans even more Gears of War games and merchandise. Currently, there are four Gears of War titles but it’s likely we can expect to see more news on this soon – perhaps E3? We can only hope…Read More

Gears Of War Free Now, Via Games with Gold

Posted on December 2, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Microsoft’s Games with Gold campaign keeps chugging along like the little engine that could. This month is no exception as one of the big hitting exclusive games, Gears Of War – released Nov. 7th, 2006, will be free from December 1st through December 15th. When Gears Of War was first announced, it dropped the jaw of many gamers. It spent its fair share of time in the Top 10 leaderboards of Xbox Live gaming activity and rightly so. While many gamers have played Gears Of War, it’s still one of the best exclusive games for the Xbox 360 and is a game that you need to play if you have not yet – after all it is FREE!!!

Gears of War: Judgment VIP Season Pass Announced

Posted on February 26, 2013 by Joshua Rust

As with the trends of modern day gaming, not that I’m a huge fan of some of these deals, Epic Games announced today that Gears Of War: Judgment will be receiving the Season Pass treatment.

Saving you approximately 20% if you were to buy them all separate, the Season Pass will include six multiplayer maps, two new modes, new weapons, armour skins and weapon skins.

Here is a more detailed list for what is in the Judgment Season Pass:

– Two upcoming Game Add-on Packs that include six multiplayer maps, two new modes, and new weapon and armour skins.
– Early access to Game Add-on multiplayer maps so you can be the first to play.
– A permanent double XP boost to accelerate your ascent through the ranks.
– Five exclusive weapon skins and four exclusive armour skins.

The Season Pass will be priced at 1600 MSP and will launch onside Gears Of War: Judgment on March 19th!

Get Entire Gears Trilogy With Pre-order of Judgment At Wal * Mart

Posted on February 11, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Gamer’s who pre-order Gears of War Judgment at Wal * Mart will be given vouchers for not only the original Gears of War but also the rest of the games in the trilogy – 2009’s Gears of War 2 and 2011’s Gears of War 3. For new players that is a hell of a deal, allowing them to play through all four titles for the price of one!

A demo version of the new Overrun mode for Gears of War Judgment will be released to the public on March 19th through the Xbox Live Marketplace. That’s also the same day that the game comes out, so perhaps there will be some people who will be on the fence on launch day.

Cliff Bleszinski Is Saying Goodbye To Epic Games

Posted on October 3, 2012 by Seung Lee

The co-founder of Epic Games, the company behind the Gears of War and Unreal Tournament franchises, Cliff Bleszinski, is finally leaving his comfy office seat. It seems that, like Greg Zeschuk and Ray Muzyka of BioWare, Bleszinski is deciding to write a new chapter in his life story. Founder of Epic Games Tim Sweeney states, “In 20 wonderful years with Epic, Cliff Bleszinski has grown into a true design luminary, and his contributions to the Unreal and Gears series have helped shape the game industry into what it is today. Cliff leaves Epic with our gratitude for his many contributions, and our wishes for continued success in the next chapter of his life!”

It’s a shame to see another established figure in the gaming industry leave, but hopefully we’ll get some news on just what, exactly, Bleszinski plans on doing in the future. For the full scoop, check out Epic Games’ official announcement here.
