[Rumor] Smash 4, Splatoon, Zelda Wii U & Mario Maker All In Development For NX

Posted on April 12, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Yet another day means yet another round of supposed leaks for the Nintendo NX. As with anything related to the unannounced console, take these with a grain of salt because we all remember how that supposed controller leak went down last month.

This last news comes by the way of multiple NeoGaf threads and a locked Twitter account belonging to a known industry insider.

The Legend of Zelda For Wii U has long been rumored to be coming to both the Nintendo NX and Wii-U and this latest lengthy post by 10K adds another anonymous confirmation to that list. Other Wii-U titles supposedly in development for the NX? Ports of Mario Maker and Splatoon are both in active development according to 10K’s multiple sources. While these games may certainly be in development there is some contention about whether or not they may come to market due to the challenge of engineering cross platform play for Splatoon and backwards compatibility with existing levels for Mario Maker. Apparently it is also “100% confirmed” that Smash 4 (otherwise known as Smashbros for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U) will be making its way to the NX as an enhanced port, no rumblings if this game may also support cross platform play or use the 3DS as a controller.

Apparently development kits have not been sent to eligible developers yet. Although, the Software Development Kit (or SDK) is apparently in the hands of developers as of the publication of the lengthy post. In relation to ports of current generation titles (Xbox One / PS4) –  these anonymous sources have had no problem porting current generation code to Nintendo’s SDK with ease and reportedly the NX’s clockspeed will be somewhere around 15-30% faster than the one found in the PlayStation 4.

Some of these rumors have been backed up by Emily Rogers. Unfortunately the account is locked so we can not verify the authenticity of these tweets but here is a screenshot as it appeared in the original GAF thread:

What do you think these of these? Fake? Real? E3 Is only two months away, I suppose we will find out then.

Nintendo Officially Joins List of Exhibitors for E3 2016

Posted on April 12, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Nintendo has officially joined the list of exhibitors for this year’s E3 Expo.  Right now the company’s name appears in the list of companies attending the show. which you can view right here or search the official E3 site for yourself. No other details about what Nintendo might be showing have of course been announced. Nintendo isn’t known for leaks – with the recent NX leaks being the except and one of those turned out to be completely false.  The company still has some big games planned for 2016 including Star Fox Zero which ships later this month and The Legend of Zelda for Wii U.

This confirmation comes just one day after Microsoft announced the timing for their press conference and sent invites out to select gaming press, enthusiasts and business folks. Will our next piece of E3 news belong to Sony? They do say good things come in threes!

Further Oculus Rift Delays Due To Microsoft?

Posted on April 12, 2016 by Broken Joysticks

Today Oculus announced further delays on Rift shipments, potentially as long as two months for some customers, sparking outrage amongst VR fans. The company confirmed once again that the delay was due to a component shortage, and that they were shipping units as quickly as possible. Oculus still remains tight-lipped on what component exactly has caused the shortage, but that hasn’t stopped Reddit users from speculating. Multiple theories, ranging from issues with the camera used to track the headset, to a lack of wireless Xbox One dongles, were made. According to a post to Reddit by a supposed Oculus employee, under the alias ‘cvinsider’, it may be due to Microsoft.Read More

Rise From Your Grave! Can Arcades Come Back?

Posted on April 12, 2016 by Broken Joysticks

Ahh the 80’s… Slightly before my time as I was born in ‘91, but thanks to older relatives’ hand-me-downs of computers like the Commodore 64 & ZX Spectrum, being raised on reruns of classic cartoons (and the odd horror film courtesy of aforementioned relatives), and most importantly, spending my youth at the local arcades, I feel like I can almost remember that decade.

Arcades were definitely in their peak around the 80’s and 90’s, being the best place to play the latest games with, for the time, mind-blowing graphics, and until relatively recently were the only place to really get your gaming fix.Read More

Doom open beta to kick off this weekend

Posted on April 12, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

Doom’s closed beta was just a couple of weeks ago, but already developer Bethesda are opening up their new game to the masses. An open beta will begin later this week (April 15th) and its going to last two days. Fragging will be plentiful as all players will be welcomed in, with nothing but an age gate to prevent you from seeing the new masterpiece from the creators of Skyrim.

We even have a new trailer just for the open beta, and watching it should give you some idea of what you can expect in the gameplay. Basically a lot of blood death, and healthy pick ups, oh and a few demons and some chain saws.

Perhaps disappointing to those in the closed beta, this new open beta will not feature any new content but will feature all of the same contnet. Here is what we know so far:

Maps: Heatwave and Infernal
Game Modes: 6v6 Team Deathmatch and Warpath
Demon: Revenant
Weapons: Rocket Launcher, Plasma Rifle, Super Shotgun, Vortex Rifle, Static Rifle, Heavy Assault Rifle, and Lightning Gun
Power Weapons: Gauss Cannon
Equipment: Frag Grenade, Personal Teleporter, Siphon Grenade

Our own Rae Michelle got herself in to the closed beta and not too kind words to say about it  calling it “hellishly bad” and “at odds with itself” in her review of its beta content. Hopefully another weekend with it will give her a better feeling for what is to come. Untill then make sure to keep your chainsaws running and your rocket launchers loaded! See you in Hell.
