Super Mario Maker Updates Adds Captain Toad & Birdo Costumes For Europe

Posted on December 22, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Mario Maker

Just in time for the Christmas holidays Nintendo Europe has unveiled a brand new update for Super Mario Maker that brings three brand new costumes to the level building title.

If you boot up Super Mario Maker on Christmas Day you can score yourself a pretty sweet costume featuring everyone’s favorite adventuring fungus, Captain Toad.  All you have to do is complete a special event course to unlock Mario’s little buddy.

Another set of unlockable character costumes will be made available on New Years Eve thanks to two new NES Remix themed stages. Complete this pair of stages to unlock the Excitebike and Birdo costumes respectively.

We don’t know if these special events will make their way outside of Europe – perhaps its best that you boot-up your Wii U on Christmas Day just to make sure. Last week Japanese players were given the chance to earn a pair of currently region exclusive EarthBound costumes – Mr. Saturn and Master Belch.

Here are Nintendo of Europe’s original tweets announcing the costumes:

Steam Sale Day 1 is live

Posted on December 22, 2015 by Fionna Schweit

Steam is notorious for its twice (and sometimes three time) annual sales. The sale always features deep discounts on popular titles as well as indie games you may never have known existed.

This years first day of Holiday sale Features Skyrim for 19.99 and The Witcher Franchise for  both of which are new and a great value. It also features Besiege which is crazy fun, for $5.59 (30%off) and Killing Floor 2 indie titles that for the price point they are at can not be passed up. This years steam sale as always will run for 7 days.

Nyko’s Data Bank Hard Drive for Xbox One Now Available

Posted on December 22, 2015 by Fionna Schweit

Leading console accessories manufacturer Nyko today announced on twitter the release of the Data Bank for Xbox One, a sleek, streamlined hard drive enclosure that affixes to the top of the console and expands data storage with any 3.5” hard drive. Current enclosures on the market are less visually appealing and are detached from the console, leaving a cable trail and taking up unnecessary space. The Data Bank for Xbox One solves this problem with an enclosure that matches the materials and angles of the console, and simply attaches to the top. You can now purchase the Data Bank at GameStop,Amazon, or the Nyko online store today for MSRP $39.99.

The Data Bank

The fit is really quite pretty

This massive harddrive extension is built specifically to fit right on top of the Xbox One and Nyko’s head of sales and marketing Chris Arbogast offers this as the reason you need one:

“If gamers purchase at least one new game a month, they’d have to start deleting old games or upgrade storage within the first couple of years after purchasing the Xbox One, The Data Bank provides the most cost-effective method to make limited save space a thing of the past, in a way that maintains the clean look of the original console design.” If you are interested you can check out the video of the console addition here

Final Rift hardware and SDK 1.0 shipping to devs

Posted on December 22, 2015 by Fionna Schweit

ITS HAPPENING

Occulus has officially annoucned that the first copies of the final rift hardware are “Imminently shipping”.  This basically means this week,

From the Occulus Rift website

“If you’re shipping a Rift title in Q1, you’ll need early access to Rift hardware and new platform features to finalize your game or application. The Rift SDK 1.0 and runtime include features tied to the consumer product, so we’ve currently limited the release to developers putting final touches on launch titles. We’re shipping more Rift hardware out to developers every week in the run up to launch. In the meantime, DK2 and SDK 0.8 continue to be the right platform for early Rift development — you only need SDK 1.0 if you’re imminently shipping.”

So expect to see a lot more Rift kits on your developer friends Facebooks, and exepect to see plenty more coverage from our own Renee on all things Rift in the coming weeks.
