October’s PlayStation Plus Games Look Amazing: Resident Evil, Transformers & More

Posted on September 29, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

After introducing a price hike that rose the price of PlayStation Plus as much as 30% in Canada, Sony had to something to show PlayStation owners that the extra $10 – $20 a year is justified. Sony’s surprise for subscribers? Two AAA titles for PlayStation 4, a pair of interesting looking visual novels and some sports action for PlayStation 3 players.

Transformers: Devastation | Current Price: $59.99 CDN

Platinum Game’s take on the Transformers universe was well received when it was released last Fall across multiple platforms. PS4 owners can try out this fusion of transforming giant robots and fast paced action until the end of October!

Resident Evil HD | Current Price: $19.99 CDN

Capcom’s 2002 reimagining of the original Resident Evil is widely regarded as one of the best survival horror tiles the genre has ever seen. Featuring graphics that still stand-up today, re-done backgrounds and a much needed bump in resolution Resident Evil HD is probably the best way to experience this classic. We have seen it on sale recently, as part of the $15 Capcom humble bundle but that shouldn’t deter folks from grabbing it on PS4 if they missed last month’s bundle.

Other titles available throughout October for PS Plus members:

  • Code: Realize – Guardian of Rebirth – (PS Vita)
  • Actual Sunlight (PS Vita)
  • Mad Riders (PS3)
  • From Dust PS3)

All in all this looks like an absolutely solid month of offerings from PlayStation Plus. I thought last month’s selection of Journey and Lords of the Fallen was going to be hard to beat but Sony has one upped themselves. If you own a Vita don’t discount the two visual novels – from what I’ve read around the PS Vita community they come highly recommended but I can’t personally vouch for them.

All titles listed in this article will be available until the end of the month.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance | Review

Posted on February 26, 2013 by Jason Bassett

Version tested: Xbox 360

Fast is a good adjective to describe Raiden. Lightning-quick is another good one. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is a very fast and highly violent video game–very violent. It’s possible that one could become nauseous at the violence in this game. That’s on the surface of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Deep within the core of Rising lies a very awesome and very challenging video game that will give you a deeper understanding of how Platinum Games and Kojima Productions have taken a project that was once almost dead and buried and turned it into one of the must have titles this year.Read More

Wii U Direct – New Wonderful 101 Trailer

Posted on January 23, 2013 by Jason Nason

Nintendo showed off a new video for Platinum Games’ upcoming project The Wonderful 101 at the Nintendo Direct on Wednesday.

No further details of the game were released and there is still no firm release date, but the new gameplay footage ramps up the excitement for the quirky title.

With one hundred unique characters in the game I think that Platinum and Nintendo would remiss not to capitalize on that an spin off other media opportunities when the game launches. If there is nothing planned in the way of anime or manga then some collectables would be a nice fit for the look of the series.Read More

Anarchy Reigns gets Western Date and price cut

Posted on October 19, 2012 by Jeff Wade

Platinum Games’ arena brawler/semi Madworld sequel Anarchy Reigns was originally set for a release this summer, before a last minute delay by publisher SEGA pushed it in to 2013. Now, the game is finally set to enter the ring early next year and will come with a budget price.

The studio announced today via Twitter that the open world fighter will hit American markets on January 8 at a reduced $29.99 price point. Europe will get it a few days latter on January 11 at a similarly reduced price point.

Platinum Games has expressed frustration in the past about the international release of Anarcy Reigns. Originally released in July in Japan, localization and devolpment was already completed and full English text and voice acting is included on that version of the game.

Anarchy Reigns was the last title in SEGA’s publishing deal with Platinum, and the complications with its release caused some concern about the health of the studio. Considering the incresasingly rosy relationship with the studio and Nintendo on Wii-U projects The Wonderful 101 and Bayonneta 2 as well as Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima stating that he would only do a sequel to the action spin off Metal Gear Rising Revengance with the team at Platinum offer some peace of mind for fans of the action developer.

Baynoetta May be a Playable Character In Anarchy Reigns

Posted on March 21, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Fans of over the top crazy action (and nonsensical plots) have waited for any indication of a sequel to 2010’s Bayonetta. Unfortunately while fans may have to wait a little longer for that to happen they might have reason to strap on their six-shooter high heels sooner than expected with reports that Bayonetta will be a playable character in the upcoming Anarchy Rising.

Anarchy Reigns is the latest beat’em up from Clover Studio veteran Atsushi Inaba. During his time at Capcom he helped produce great games like Okami, Viewtiful Joe and Phoenix Wright before co-founding platinum games. Anarchy Reigns also features Jack from 2008’s Mad World as a playable character. We’re guessing it won’t be long after the game’s release that co-op videos of Jack & Bayonetta kicking some serious ass together flood the internet.
