Levar Burton Returns As Gordi La Forge In Star Trek Online: Beyond The Nexus

Posted on August 7, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

The chief engineer of the Enterprise D himself, Gordi La Forge, will return to the world of Star Trek – complete with voice work performed by Levar Burton- in the 14th season of Perfect World Entertainment’s Star Trek Online.

Players of the Federation’s finest MMORPG will be able to adventure alongside Starfleet Captain Gordi La Forge in the first of two episodic story arcs titled Beyond The Nexus. Episode 1 will be released on September 12th with the second episode slated for release sometime in October. Episode 2 – titled “Melting Pot” – sees the player character take on a mission alongside Gordi and Captain Kuumaarke as they investigate a new colony world established after the events of Season 13.

These two new story episodes aren’t the only in-game events to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Star Trek: The Next Generation.  TNG’s Skant Uniform from Season 1 of the show, a purchasable bridge interior from the USS Enterprise 1701-D and the Type-7 shuttle will also be available as optional purchases during the two episode story run.

Star Trek Online: Beyond The Nexus will launch first on Windows PC this Fall with a release date for both episodes on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One to be confirmed at a later date.

During the week I did some homework getting to know Cryptic’s Star Trek Online so I could relate between the two games. The two do have their similarities but they are their own games as well. If you haven’t tried out Star Trek yet and you are a fan of the franchise I do recommend it. Even just to see the sights, it’s a fun trip.

One thing I didn’t get to try in Neverwinter was the Foundry. It turns out Star Trek Online even had a Foundry for gamers to create their own adventures. I’ve tried a couple Star Trek missions recently and I played some Neverwinter quests and both games have been quite enjoyable. Unfortunately I haven’t gotten in to the creation tool myself yet so the magic hasn’t been spoiled for me, but the system does seem to allow for quite a bit of story telling.Read More

Posted on April 9, 2013 by Les Major

The new free to play Neverwinter MMO let beta testers give the game a whirl a few weekends back and I was lucky enough to get to be a part of the action. Unfortunately, I haven’t tried their Star Trek MMO, but after enjoying my time in the Forgotten Realms I do plan to see what the game based on Paramount’s franchise is like as well.Read More
