DOOM Launch Trailer Asks Us To Fight Like Hell

Posted on May 5, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

We didn’t really have a good idea about what DOOM’s single player would be like, outside of the DOOM single player demos from last year’s E3. That all changed with the recent 2 hour live-stream hosted by Bethesda where we learned new details like the fact that sometimes, especially on custom Snap-map game types enemies will fight amongst themselves before getting to you. Some fans have described the gameplay as “fairly large open sections with enemies sprinkled into them”, and after watching a lot of single-player footage I’m in agreement. This might feel like a bit of a step back, especially since games like Call of Duty have had us expecting huge set-pieces, but it looks like the new DOOM is trying to take things back to basics.

The new DOOM single-player launch trailer doesn’t give us much in the way of story – outside of the fact that the player character is “the only flesh to walk between this world and theirs (presumably Earth)”. Then again, the original DOOM titles weren’t exactly known for their stories – you were basically one marine versus several levels of demons.

DOOM releases on May 13th for PS4, Xbox and Windows PC.

GRIM.EXE Infects Epic Games’ Paragon

Posted on May 5, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

The latest hero to enter the combat arena in Paragon is GRIM.EXE a fully functional battle robot that comes with his own infomercial. Using an unlimited energy source that powers a large pulse canon GRIM.EXE is able to unleash devastating blasts at medium range, shield himself using another one of his abilities and knockback opponents with another.  His ultimate – a “Gyro Targeted Force Orb” – can pass through solid objects and home in on a single target, dealing them their final blow.

GRIM.EXE (and the little imp who issues him commands) will be coming for free to the PlayStation 4 and PC versions of Paragon on May 10th. Check out the chuckle worthy faux infomercial in the embedded player below. If you’ve never played Paragon before make sure to read our in-depth impressions before jumping in, Paragon is currently available as part of a $20 buy-in for access to the “pre-alpha” season.

Nintendo America reaffirms only Zelda playable at E3

Posted on May 5, 2016 by Jason Nason

Nintendo confirmed today that The Legend of Zelda will be the only playable game at E3 and will be the company’s focus at E3. Sadly.

Nintendo will transform its booth at the E3 video game trade show next month in Los Angeles to immerse fans in the world of the newest game in The Legend of Zelda franchise – playable for the first time ever at the show. To ensure attendees are able to truly experience the freedom of exploration the game offers, The Legend of Zelda for Wii U will be Nintendo’s focus of the show this year, and will be the only playable game in Nintendo’s booth via extended demos.

At E3 this year, we’re treating people to an immersive Zelda experience,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing. “By giving attendees extended hands-on time with this remarkable game, they’ll be able to get a much deeper understanding of something new for the franchise.”

EA to release Star Wars game made by Titan Fall dev

Posted on May 5, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

Yesterday was May the 4th, which is as close to a real Star Wars holiday as fans will ever get, so EA chose it to announce they will be making another Star Wars IP. Their exact quote was  “all-new third-person action adventure game set in the Star Wars universe.”  what does that mean? Your guess is as good as mine, but id guess its going to be another shooting game, possibly something in the vein of republic commando but set around the time of this years Star Wars installment (Rouge One) and following a story with single player and action and adventure styling.

Respawn is already hard at work on Titan Fall 2 which is set for a release date later this year. So once they wrap that we can expect to see news for this new IP to start ramping up. Lets just hope this game is not a disaster on the level of Star Wars Battlefront which currently sits basically empty with player counts so low its difficult to even find games. There are so many Star Wars related games on the way that I think I have lost track of them but just in EA’s house alone you have EA-owned studios Capital Games, Visceral Games, DICE, BioWare, and Motive also currently working on Star Wars projects. That is a lot of games, I expected a large number of games to show up after the sucess of The Force Awakens kick started Disneys want for more money, but my most fervent hope is that this doesn’t turn in to a shovel ware situation.

Soderlund also said in his announcement post “Over the past few years, I’ve had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with Vince Zampella and his group, their obsession with making games that feel amazing has helped make Titanfall one of the most successful new game launches of this generation.” We do know that Stig Asmussen former director for the God of War series will be leading this project and having played most of the amazingly fun God of War games  I feel confident that he has the experience to bring third person combat to the Star Wars universe.

Mr. Asmussen did publish a lengthy blog post on the Respawn blog about the game, but it doesnt really say anything you need to read. There is however at least one very encouraging line in the blog post “I have been playing Star Wars games my whole life, now I get to make a Star Wars game,” lets hope that love translates over to the game, and we dont get a bit of shovel ware pushed out EA’s door to just try and ride on the back of the Star Wars hype.
