Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward Benchmark Released

Posted on April 28, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

An official benchmark for Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward has been released by Square Enix. As we outlined last week this new benchmark brings players to the snowy land of Coerthas, the setting for the upcoming expansion for Square’s newest MMO.

New features available only in this benchmark include our first peek at the Direct X 11 client, the ability to select the Au Ra race in the character creator and of course while the benchmark is running we are able to get a really good look at some of the new jobs in action.

No minimum specs were posted to the FFXIV: Heavensward benchmark official site, so presumably they are very similar to the original FFXIV: A Realm Reborn minimum specs. The benchmark software clocks in at about 1.6GB so it is a pretty hefty download. You can grab it here – and when you’re done running it make sure to post your scores in the comments section!Read More

Silent Hills Is No More

Posted on April 28, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Did last year’s absolutely terrifying and surprise announcement of a Silent Hill reboot featuring the talent of Hideo Kojima, Guillermo Del Toro and Norman Reedus have you excited? Well it is now official – the game has been officially cancelled by Konami.

The Silent Hill’s Playable Teaser (“P.T”) will be removed from the PlayStation Store with today’s weekly store update. If you haven’t downloaded this truly terrifying proof of concept game do yourself a favor and turn down the lights and play one of last year’s big viral sensations.

This cancellation is just the latest cancellation in an on-going string of events – from speculation that Hideo Kojima will be leaving Konami after the completion of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain to Konami being de-listed from the New York Stock Exchange. It is certainly a time of change over at Konami, perhaps it is time for a Contra reboot?Read More

Mighty Number 9 Gets a Mighty New Release Date

Posted on April 28, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Keiji Inafune’s highly anticipated first post Capcom release Mighty Number 9 finally has a solid release date – September 15th 2015 on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. Presumably the PS Vita version will launch soon thereafter but publisher Deep Silver doesn’t exactly sound prepared to discuss the specific release plans for the handheld version.

Mighty Number 9 is a spiritual successor of sorts to Inafune’s most well-known creation Mega Man. Running along a 2D plane the player is able to run, jump and shoot various projectiles at enemies. By defeating bosses Beck, the game’s protagonist, is able to transform into new forms to land devastating attacks on his foes.

Mighty Number 9’s successful Kickstarter was announced almost two years ago at the 2013 Penny Arcade Expo. The game went on to become one of the most successful KickStarter projects ever – raising over 4 million dollars.Read More
