First look at Lycanroc Dusk form

Posted on August 14, 2017 by Jason Nason

We recently got our first look at the newly discovered Dusk Form Lycanroc. Now more details have been revealed, including how to add this Pokémon to your Pokémon Ultra Sun or Pokémon Ultra Moon game.

Dusk Form Lycanroc shares some of the aspects of Midday Form, such as a four-legged stance and obedience toward its trusted Trainer. But it’s also like Midnight Form—at the moment it attacks, its eyes turn red! Around its neck are four rocks like those of Midday Form, while the mane on its head matches that of Midnight Form.

Little things don’t shake the tranquil demeanor of Dusk Form Lycanroc, but it has a well of intense fighting spirit hidden within, and as a result, it relishes combat at close quarters. It also tries to use Counter when battles get intense.

Watching Four People Speed Run Pokemon Red Simultaneously Is Oddly Captivating

Posted on July 31, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Take a trip back in time with me, not too far, but to SGDQ 2016. Last year the folks at Summer Games Done Quick hosted a four way race between Gunnermaniac3, Keizaron, Extratricky and Exarionu to see who could complete Nintendo’s Pokemon Red with the fastest time.

The Pokemon games have had a dedicated speed running community for some time and while I can’t profess to be anything other than a casual consumer of speed run content, I find these runs in particular absolutely fascinating. Perhaps it is the fact that the generation 1 Pokemon titles have been distilled down to a mathematical formula at this point – with examples like the community discovering that running the game with Nidoran and the use of Horn Drill, in particular, being the most effective strategy to completing the game. Maybe it is essential but potentially overlooked details like the fact that Viridian Forest has individual grass tiles that won’t spawn encounters that make these games so appealing to me.

Whatever it is about Pokemon Speedruns, if you’ve ever wondered what exploitable mathematics and mechanics that make running a multi-hour RPG possible in under the amount of time it takes to watch The Avengers – watch this SGDQ 2016 run. Pokemon Red’s community does an absolutely fantastic job explaining the ins and outs of their chosen game WHILE running it!

If you’re curious about what goes into a Pokemon speed run make sure to head over to the Pokemon Speed Run wiki. They’ve got a leader board, strategies for every generation, profiles on the various runners and other cool tidbits.

The Pokémon you transfer will lose their items in the process, however, so this distribution is currently the only way to get these Mega Stones in Pokémon Sun or Pokémon Moon.

Pokémon Direct set for June 6th

Posted on June 5, 2017 by Jason Nason

Nintendo announced via their social media channels on Monday afternoon that they are planning a special Nintendo Direct for tomorrow which will be all about Pokémon.

The special Pokémon Direct is set to go live worldwide at 10:00 AM ET and will be a special 8-minute presentation of “Pokémon news.” Nothing else is known about the direct as of yet but speculation is running wild already.

With the latest mainline Pokémon title(s) Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon having been out for under a year it’s possible that this will be an announcement of a third incarnation of the series similar to what Nintendo has done previously. Red and Blue had a third version of the game released later on in Yellow while Gold and Silver had a third version released in Platinum. This trend had been done many times, however X and Y never got a Z release, despite the fact that the third season of the television series was called XYZ the series.
