Gabe newell is investing in Food, still not Half Life 3

Posted on November 27, 2015 by Fionna Schweit

Gabe Newell is man who is known to eat. As reported by Eater Gabe it seems has now become interested in the world of cooking.  Chef Steps is a well known gastronimic cooking channel on Youtube, they feature sous vide cooking, cooking with liquid nitrogen, and other hi tech tools. Chef steps produces a product line, the top of which is a sous vide machine called the “joule“.

Gabes intrest was piqued after he won a dinner prepared by Fat Duck founding chef and now ChefSteps CEO Chris Young, and ChefSteps’ Grant Crilly. The two are often features in the Youtubes channels videos, and the sous vide method of cooking is prominently used in the videos. Evidently the science based approach to cooking impressed the Valve CEO, as he is now investing in the company’s first product, going so far as to appear in their media to endorse it.

Says Newell: “They talked to me like a scientist, like an engineer, and this isn’t how I thought people in the cooking world talked. These guys are cooking nerds. And the science is super interesting. Their understanding of what’s going on in the experience of cooking resonated with my experiences in the world of creating entertainment. In the end, your target is the subjective experience of the consumer. You have to know all this hard stuff, but at the end of the day you have to have a really good connection with the inside of someone’s head to be good at it.”

Perhaps we can look forward to seeing a Chef simulator soon on steam, or perhaps the previously digital only platform will expand to sell physical items? Perhaps not, either way take a gander at the video below to get an idea of what Chef Steps is all about

Riddick is coming back

Posted on November 22, 2015 by Fionna Schweit

Many fans were disappointed with the “conclusion” of the final Riddick film the self titled “Riddick”. The Necromonger story line wasn’t properly resolved and the excuse for why was flimsy at best. So fans will no doubt be excited to hear that another film has been greenlit. Vin diesel announced the film via Instagram along side  TV show to be called “Merc City” which will follow the mercenary companies of the Riddick universe.

Merc City is a show that will follow the Mercs and Bounty Hunters of the Riddick Universe,”

he said. The show will be produced by a new TV subsidiary of Diesel’s own One Race Films production company.

The new film is to be called “Furia” which is the name of the planet that the hero is from, the same planet that the Necromongers committed a genocide on  in order to prevent Riddick from existing. David Twohy will return to  direct and Vin Diesel reported that he will begin to write the script this month. Riddick has been notably absent from game media recent with Assault on Dark Athena launched in 2009 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, being the last game to feature Riddick. Hopefully this means that we will be getting at least one more game staring the merc and his twin knives and sweet spot.

Rocket league to get mutators with free DLC

Posted on October 29, 2015 by Fionna Schweit

Our oppinions here at brokenjoysticks on Rocket League are well known, our review posted here was glowing to say the least. So any time we hear about DLC or new content for that game we get EXTREMELY excited. So what could make an already amazing game where you shoot around in cars that have rockets even more amazing? The answer lies in Mutators

[youtube id=”cEH2hUw-d_U”]

Mutators at first seem simple, you can change all sorts of things, the size of the ball, the gravity in the field, the shape of the ball (is it still a ball if its square? I DONT KNOW) etc. Some that we know about already include: Cube (turns ball in to a cube), Moonball (lowers gravity), and Time warp (presumably warps time?) The new modifiers will appear in custom games and in a rotating playlist called unsurprisingly Mutator Mashup. I personally cant wait to get my hands on these game modes, the basic mode of rocket league was always where I had the most fun, and this will add so much more. Plus its bound to make it easier right? no i guess probably not, but thats the fun isint it?

Also announced is a hockey mode for later on in December. The Mutator DLC is free and will be available in the coming weeks. An additional preview will be provided today via a live stream.
