The Game Developer Conference (GDC) held in San Francisco is fast approaching. This will be the 30th year of the event, which is the largest game industry conference in the world.

While E3 is intended for press to connect with game companies and developers and the PAX conventions are for game companies to connect with their audiences, GDC is an event for developers to connect with each other, share their knowledge and expand their skills. There are countless talks, panels and roundtables for developers, all with their own areas of focus, from design and technical talks to postmortems and discussions about industry direction and culture. In the evenings there are all kinds of events, including dinners, parties and award shows.

Codemasters Shifts Focus Exclusively To Racing Games

Racing titles have always been at the core of Codemasters and for those of us who have been involved in this industry for awhile the name brings to mind games like the Colin McRae’s Dirt, GRID or F1 series of games. Of course they don’t publish racing games exclusively but with a renewed focus on the tarmac this is about to change.

After the release of games like The Lord of the Rings Online and several Operation Flashpoint games the publisher has found little success in either the MMO or shooter markets. Despite their best efforts their continued success has come with their fantastic racing titles.Read More


Darksiders Dev: Wii U Comparable to 360, PS3

The hardware under the Wii U’s hood has been kept under wraps since Nintendo unveiled the console this past June. Speaking to Develop Vigil Game’s Marvin Donald says that the Wii U graphical prowess is on par with what we have experienced with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

“So far the [Wii U] hardware’s been on par with what we have with the current generations” said Donald to Develop.Read More
