Nintendo 3DS Sales Continue Strong in October

Nintendo announced on Thursday that the Nintendo 3DS is once again the best-selling video game hardware system in North America. The handheld sold more than 452,000 units sold in October and sold double that of September. Software sales were strong for Nintendo as well with Pokémon X and Pokémon Y as the number 1 and number 2 top-selling titles last month. CHARTED: Nintendo (Week ending Aug 31st)

Madden NFL 25 and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn were the big debuts in the North American charts this week, which dropped several Nintendo holdouts. The lone release in the top ten on a Nintendo console this week was Disney Infinity for Wii, which was the best selling platform for the game in its second week. CHARTED: Nintendo (week ending Aug 25)

Disney Infinity was a big seller in its first week at retail. The top selling platform was the Xbox 360 followed by the Nintendo Wii with 79,472 copies sold on Nintendo’s platform. Between the three versions sold on Nintendo platforms (Wii, Wii U & 3DS) the game sold 128,484 making it a solid first week for Disney’s venture into Skylanders territory. CHARTED: Nintendo (week ending Aug 10th)

As expected Nintendo’s Pikmin 3 debuted in North America at the number one spot with 114,828 sold in the first week. The game took home the number 2 spot in worldwide sales during the week. Over in Japan Nintendo continues to hold strong with eight of the top ten spots on Nintendo’s consoles, seven of which on the 3DS. CHARTED: Nintendo (Week Ending July 28th)

Animal Crossing continues to do well for Nintendo with the game still in the top five in North America and is just outside the top ten in Japan after nearly 40 weeks. The game has sold more than 4.5 million copies worldwide so far. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies was released in Japan on the Nintendo 3DS this week and raked in 247,352 copies in its first week, making it the number one selling game...
