The Arbiter From Halo Casts Judgement Within The Ring of Killer Instinct

Posted on February 21, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Arbiter Killer Instinct

Can the punished right hand of the Covenant forces, The Arbiter, dispense justice upon the combatants of Killer Instinct? After being announces at GamesCom last summer the Arbiter finally has his own gameplay trailer showing off some of the moves he’ll use in combat as well as the new Sanghelios stage.

In terms of move-set the Arbiter is able to wield his iconic energy sword with successive quick blows flying towards his opponents. He also comes equipped with a Covenant carbine rifle which can be used across the arena and a sticky grenade for good measure. It seems like defeating The Arbiter won’t come down to mashing buttons but rather a battle of wits, are you ready?

The Arbiter will be available as part of Killer Instinct: Season 3 on Xbox One and for the first time Windows 10 this March.

Splatoon Splatfest Results: Blue wins the Day

Posted on February 21, 2016 by Jason Nason

The results of the latest Splatfest are in and it looks like Blue has won the day.

Despite Red winning the popular vote, Blue had a higher win percentage and took the round in points. I had chosen team Red because my very first Pokémon game was the red version with Charizard on the cover. I got the game way back when it was first released.

Which team were you on? Did your team win?Read More

HTC unveils Vive consume edition and pre-order info

Posted on February 21, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

HTC Vive

Begun the VR wars have.

Today HTC has announced their final consumer production model of their VR headset the Vive. In a blog post on their website, HTC announced that the Vive pre-orders will open Monday Feburay 29th (yes that’s leap day) at 10am eastern time. The price will be $799USD, the unit will ship in April of this year. Also important to note is that HTC’s post says

“Vive will be delivered as a complete kit allowing users to instantly jump into a fully immersive virtual environment using two wireless controllers, 360 degree tracking and room scale movement sensors”

This is different from the choice made by their nearest competitor Occulus whom chose to price their unit at $599 (200USD less), but with out the inbox sensors, and controllers. Getting the touch controllers for Occulus will set the consumer back another chunk of change(price has not yet been announced), probably bringing the prices for the two units closer together.

The HTC Vive will also ship with two VR games, Job Simulator and Fantastic Contraption, and with the recent addition of the front facing camera HTC is stressing that this is not just a gaming machine. They are targeting multiple sectors including entertainment, retail, education, design, healthcare and automotive that will ultimately transform people’s lives.

Cher Wang, chairwoman and CEO, HTC is quoted in the blog post as saying

“From the beginning, Vive has been at the forefront of virtual reality, with HTC pioneering several ground breaking technologies, Since announcing Vive this time last year, we have worked tirelessly with Valve to deliver the best VR experience on the market, winning multiple awards and receiving critical acclaim from media, consumers and the industry. With the Vive consumer edition we are now able to realize our ultimate vision; bringing Vive into homes around the globe so that people can experience immersive virtual reality in a away that fires the imagination and truly changes the world.”

So what do you think? Is HTC going to take down Occulus or vice versa? Hit the jump to see their intro video that was also in the blog post

Studio Head: Gears of War 4 Will Run At 60 FPS

Posted on February 21, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Upcoming Xbox One exclusive Gears of War 4 will run at 60 frames per second says The Coalition studio head, Rod Fergusson.  According to an article in the latest issue of Official Xbox Magazine UK, Fergusson says that the dev team is aiming to duplicate the essence of older Gears titles, which should please long-time fans.

In regards to the framerate here is what he had to say:

“Delivering [with Ultimate Edition] the first 60fps multiplayer experience in franchise history really taught us a lot about what it means to have a 60fps culture on the team and we’re leveraging that experience for Gears of War 4.”

Last year’s Gears of War: Ultimate Edition was the first entry in the franchise to allow players to compete against each other at a full 60 FPS online. Other titles from last year – namely Halo 5 and Forza Motorsport 6 both ran at 60 FPS as well.

The first gameplay footage of Gears of War 4 debuted at E3 2015. You can view it below:
