EA Retreats From Plans To Make C&C Multiplayer Only

Posted on September 10, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Fans reacted negatively upon hearing the news that 2013’s Command and Conquer will be a free-to-play multiplayer only title. It looks like EA has changed its battle plan, pre-deployment, by confirming that the game will indeed feature single player content.

Despite the concerns over the free-to-play model, when speaking to The Verge, EA Reps have stated that the single campaign is indeed compatible with the games freemium model. From the sounds of things the single player for Command and Conquer may not come as a complete campaign, but an ever evolving storyline or experience that will change depending on feedback.

Here is what was said in part to The Verge:

“Does that mean it’s not going to have single-player? No, that’s something we’ve obviously heard loud and clear that is important to people. The beauty of free-to-play, is that we can adjust and adapt to what we’re hearing as opposed to, ‘I’m sorry, it’s two months from ship and it is what it is.’ It’s a very different model because you don’t have to build as much. You build in response to your audience.”

Steam: Big Picture Goes Public Beta

Posted on September 10, 2012 by Jason Bassett

You know that thing that Valve has been tinkering with? They call it Big Picture and it has just went into Beta. What is Big Picture?  Big Picture is just a small step in a big trend as Valve comes into the console race. Think of Big Picture as the software or Operating System to the hardware. While Valve has finally confirmed that they are indeed in the hardware race, Big Picture will let your TV get a lot more than just playing your Xbox.

As an example, let’s say you have a small multimedia PC that you use for games on Steam. Now, let’s say you take that PC and plug it into your TV via HDMI. Launch Steam and then launch Big Picture and you will then have the console experience right within Steam and right in a PC ready controller.

Want more information on Steam’s Big Picture? Head over to http://store.steampowered.com/bigpicture/

The Guys Behind Amnesia Are Working On A New Project

Posted on September 10, 2012 by Seung Lee

Well, before I go any further, props should be given to Frictional Games and its Amnesia: The Dark Descent for finally breaking the one million sale mark. But company owner Thomas Grip says in a blog post:

Despite that huge number of sales, what I think is more interesting is how good the monthly sales still are. Not counting any discounts, the monthly full price sales lie at over 10 000 units. This means that less then every 5th minute someone in the world is buying a copy of Amnesia. This is totally insane to me. The figures themselves are far beyond any guesses we would have made two years ago. It is also insane, because this number is actually higher than it was around three months after initial launch. That a game can still be going this good two years after is truly remarkable.  This success is due to many factors, some of which are the uniqueness of the game (horror games without combat do not really exist on PC), the large modding community (more on this later) and the steady flood of YouTube clips (which is in turn is fueled by the modding community output).

Hidden DLC Found For Tekken Tag Tournament 2

Posted on September 10, 2012 by Broken Joysticks

Before you start panicking, remember Capcom isn’t the ones who make Tekken Tag Tournament. It was discovered that on top of the forty nine characters on the disc and four free DLC characters for pre-ordering, there was an additional six characters found by players who were mining on the game’s data code.  Those six characters are Slim Bob; the skinny version of Bob who was shown in his Tekken 6 ending, Sebastian; Emilie de Rochefort (Lili)’s butler who follows her around, Miharu Hirano; classmate of Ling Xiaoyu and Jin Kazama who appeared as an alternate skin for Xiaoyu in Tekken 4, Violet; alternate personality for Lee Chaolan in Tekken 4, Doctor Bosconovitch; a man who’s been in numerous endings from Tekken 1 and included as an unorthodox character in Tekken 3 and finally Unknown; who is the final boss of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and evil persona of Jun Kazama.Read More

Borderlands 2 Skill Tree Builder Is Live!

Posted on September 7, 2012 by Joshua Rust

Borderlands 2

Borderlands 2 is my most anticipated title of 2012. While the days are going by (11 to go from today) Gearbox keeps feeding us more and more new information. Today they launched the skill tree builder for everyone to check out. It gives you a preview as to what you want to do with your character – plan ahead so to speak. Unfortunately, the Mechromancer’s skill tree isn’t available – only the four launch characters.

Here are the direct links to each characters page, though I’m not sure if you can go directly to them because of the age gate.

Maya, The Siren’s Skill Tree

Salvador, The Gunzerker’s Skill Tree

Axton, The Commando’s Skill Tree

Zer0, The Assassin’s Skill Tree

If those don’t work, you can access this through the Borderlands 2 website, then click on Characters then when you get to that page, click on the character you want to view the skill tree for. Lastly, once you get to the prefered character page you click on View Skill Tree.

Borderlands 2 will release September 18th – which is not soon enough!

Thunder Wolves Flies In With A Trailer

Posted on September 7, 2012 by Joshua Rust

Ubisoft and Most Wanted Entertainment have announced a new helicopter game called Thunder Wolves. It almost makes me reminisce about games I played way back when such as Nuclear Strike and Soviet Strike. What would it take to get those on XBLA? Anyways, Thunder Wolves will feature over 30 weapon/chopper combos and feature co-op play – one will fly the chopper and the other will shoot. Not sure how that will play out, but we’ll see (I’d prefer both players have their own chopper…but I’m not making it am I?)

Thunder Wolves plans to launch the first quarter of next year on XBLA, PSN, and PC.

Planetside 2’s Alpha Squad Package Could Be A Bundle Of Joy

Posted on September 7, 2012 by Seung Lee

If you can’t wait to get your hands on the upcoming open-world MMOFPS from Sony Online Entertainment, Planetside 2, then the new Alpha Squad promotional package is absolutely for you. What is in this package, you may ask? Well, it gives you instant beta access, in-game exclusives such as XP boosts and guns, and a founder’s title.

The Alpha Squad will cost $39.99, but it’s well worth it if you want the upper hand in Planetside 2. Keep in mind that there’s going to be a lot of people playing the game, and some of them might be in the mood to kill. Planetside 2 is a PC game that’s still currently in a beta stage, and no official release date has been released yet. Check out the game’s official website here.

Remember Me In This 10 Minute Gameplay Video

Posted on September 7, 2012 by Joshua Rust

Remember Me is a new IP that Capcom announced at GamesCon 2012 earlier this year. This trailer shows off some footage directly from the presentation that was at GamesCon.

Remember Me looks like it will be a pretty decent title, just get some of that dialogue fixed up a bit and this game will be worth remembering.

Remember Me is set to launch May 2013.

It appears that every other weekend Bioware puts out one of these weekend events. This weekend is one of those weekends as Operation Vigilance gets ready to commence tomorrow – Friday September 7th. It will run from Friday until Sunday and it appears that the Squad Goal won’t be as much trouble as some of the previous events. Now for the Allied Goal, that may take some work.

Here are the details for Operation Vigilance:

Allied Goal Success: All players awarded a Victory Pack

In a move bound to excite keyboard manufacturers, RedLynx’s Trial series is making the jump back to PC with the recently announced Trials Evolution: Gold Edition.

The PC release will collect all of the base content of this year’s Trials Evolution but will also extended the pain with all of the content from 2009’s Trials HD, including all DLC and expansions released for that game.
